It seems interesting enough, I haven't heard of many stories that don't entail magic whatsoever...
Here's my idea, a simple sort of story that I've been working on:
The main character, Alex (I'm thinking Alex as a default name that can be changed since the main character isn't that important), is en route to his home town via the woods outside of the town (this is where the story starts), when he notices two wolves, a mother and her cub walking along the road side. He stops and greets them (They can talk by the way), and the cub tries to run into the woods. Since it is getting darker and darker, the woods are becoming dangerous, and the mother stops the cub from entering. The cub claims that there is someone inside there, but the mother, obstinant with keeping her child safe, refuses to go in. Alex, taking concern of who might be inside, decides to check it out. The wolves thank him, and they give him a tool that he can use to locate the person (An inventory item that is unusable, but activates events).
Upon entering the woods, Alex searches around, it isn't dark yet so there is no danger. He needs to solve a puzzle involving a series of switches (already implemented in the game) to get to the source. After solving the puzzle, he finds a girl laying in the ground. He wakes her up and tells her that they need to get out of the forest (The sun is now gone). She grogilly agrees, and they move quickly to exit the forest. (There is a timer set for 3 Minutes, and a new switch set is created, if the timer runs out, then it becomes too dark to see, and the game is over, however the puzzle is quite easy, it would take a casual gamer maybe 30 seconds to figure out the mechanism.) Upon reaching the exit of the woods, a ManBearPig appears and blocks them from the exit. The girl hides, and Alex bravely unsheathes his sword to fight it (Up until this point the sword cannot be used). The ManBearPig is dangerous, but it isn't extremely hard to kill (Either by constantly knocking it down or by using a charged up attack to hit it multiple times). Afterwards, they exit the forest...
To find they are still stuck inside. This is what Alex was afraid of, the Woods are alive, and they like to trap people inside at night. As they attempt to leave, there is a series of plants and shrubbery in their way, which can conveniently be struck down using a sharp sword. This part is pretty short, since it's only the beginning, but they quickly find their way out before fighting any more monsters.
Upon exiting the forest, Alex asks the girl if she's okay. She is lost for words, and instead starts to cry. He waits until she regains her composure before asking again. She then becomes defensive and asks who he is and where she is. It's obvious she has lost her memory (or has she? *foreshadowing*), and they make their way to the town.
In the town it's dark, and there is only one building accessable, Alex's home. When they get inside, he tells her she can use his bedroom, and she asks for a pad of paper. He tells her there is some inside the room, and she goes to turn in for the night. He on the other hand, puts away all his stuff and stays awake for a while, pondering this strange girl who is completely lost, almost got herself killed, and wears strange clothing. In the morning, (next scene), he's surfing on the internet (Yes, that's not a typo) when she walks out of his room, gaping at his computer. She snatches it from his hand, and tries to find something on it before she gives up entirely. He looks at her strangely, and she says she thought that everything was a dream. He tells her to look outside, and she does. She can't believe it, and worse yet she doesn't want to do anything, claiming that she's going to wake up sooner or later. He shrugs, and heads off to school (Not a typo either.)
At school, there is only one class for that specific day, academic arcane magic. After a lecture, notes, and study, Alex learns a spell, the first spell he's ever learned. (during the notes there is a questionnaire, the answers given will determine the character's magical acuity, ranging from Illuminency (Offensive, Fire and Holy Magic), Teramancy (Offensive & Defensive Nature & Wind Magic), Sanaistry (Defensive and Supportive Holy Magic), or Atranistry (Offensive Dark & Ice Magic)), and based on THAT, the character will learn a different spell. There is a space gap after that, where he can talk to various people at the school, train at the gym (Strength training), study in the lecture hall (Intelligence Training), Go to archery training (Dexterity training), or hit the track and go for a jog (Agility Training). There are also various jobs he can do to gain money, simple tasks, some require technique, others are simple deliveries, others involve staying in one place for a time limit, and ultimately time is unlimited at the school, however training credits (A switch used at the start of each day at 100) are limited. There is no way to increase this number other than sleeping at home, and you can't do that until the story progresses in such a way that you are allowed to go to sleep. Ultimately he can go home whenever, and once he does the story takes a turn when he realises that the girl is missing. He cannot leave the house until he finds out why, which can be found in his room (the paper she asked for was used to make a diary), he learns that she went back to the forest. He goes in to find her en route to the forest, and explains to her that she can't just go back. She pushes him away, claiming she can do what she wants, and heads off again. He brings up the ManBearPig, and she realises what could happen to her. She goes with him back to the house, where she notices all the little differences in his life compared to her own. He decides that tomorrow she will accompany him to the school, where they can talk to the principal, a very smart and wise man.
That's the introduction to the plot. Let me note that the game is in production right now, but I just wanted to post it here to see if there are any discrepencies in the story.
