Since I'll be leaving, I thought I'd make a quick update on what's happening in the world of Element 7 Studios

-I'm gathering resources: I found better icons, and got some SE that's fine, and fits in an RPG
-I have a sketch of Asea ready for digitalizing, and colouring, but I still plan on fixing up the Saika art. Just... having some issues.
-I'm looking for more inspiration from games and art.

till next time, see ya!

Hey guys. Sorry for no post in, what... 3 months?
The game has been in the works, though. No slacking. For the most part.
I have two new sketches for characters:
Saika: http://bb.xieke.com/files/saika-10.jpg
Ingrid: http://bb.xieke.com/files/ingrid.jpg

I have another, better Saika drawing too, but I still have to scan it. I'm also working on a new character design for Asea.

I found a good style for sprites, and a great tileset I'll be using for the game.

Gruuberhans is now the composer for Farewell! We've already got a growing OST. I'll upload three songs soon, as soon as he is done remastering the tracks.

That's it for now, I'll update with more tomorrow

Jason

Awesome Bro

Saika looks as if she's hiding a package down there o.O

Although they both look pretty good and their designs aren't bad at all.

UPDATE: First song from the OST titled Hitrea at Night uploaded to youtube. Check it out!

More music on the way

farewell, Farewell...
or well, goodbye.

I have dropped the project due to my boredom, inability to finish anything, and because it was getting to big to handle.

Sorry to anyone who was waiting for it (if there was anyone)

Kudos to anyone who actually remembers this project (minus crew members)
-action

huh man so it's all about a lack of will with an ambition too large for its body to handle? not the first time this has happened, so all the problem was is for you to get the will to do so. Bit by bit works.

Lie, what are your plans now? what will you do with all the music, art, ideas, maps, etc? I'm hoping that, even you you never touch the project again, you at least have an idea of reusing the stuff

Well, the graphics I don't mind getting rid of, and my composer will be allowed to use the music at his own free will (for whatever reason)

I don't have plans of making another RPG, so I won't be needing the maps, or scripts. But I may release the scripts to the forums. Have to check what they are again.

Hey guys,

For the summer I have nothing good to do for 10 hours a day. So I decided to start up Farewell again, and see where I got with it. Casually, this time, though. I have some ideas, and with most maps and systems already in place I should be able to get this project moving in no time!

Though I've lost.. my whole team now, who are all busy with other projects, I'll work from the base up, and with what I already have. I'll get to graphics/audio later, and worry about gameplay first.

Thanks to everyone for their previous support, and in advance as well!
Expect some new screenshots soon ;)

I also updated the main post with the new story and all the new characters/descriptions.

STORY
-------------
It's year 614, in Hitrea, island large enough only to fit a city, and 2 small suburbs. The island is the center of religion for the surrounding islands.
Asea, the main character of the story, is living day by day without much content. He has lived in comfort for all his life - his father a prominent church figure, going to a good school, food and shelter plenty. He was brought up a follower of the church by his father, and does not question his father's beliefs.
But when he meets a girl named Saika, who has a complete opposite view of the church, he finds himself following her into activism and eventually crime.
As the church's true colors are revealed, Asea digs deeper into the grounds of a plot that if not stopped, will destroy the world.

CHARACTERS
-------------
Asea Lylle
Male
Playable Character
Personality: Unsure and in the middle between extra- and intro-vert; he is not very talkative, but does not shy out of a opinionated conversation.
Background: Brought up in comfort by his father alone. He has been taught to follow the church, his father being a prominent church figure. He has had no significant interests in his life, and is looking for something to do.
Abilities: Quick Learner

Saika Müssen
Female
Party Member
Personality: Kindhearted, easily depressed, and attached. When she has an opinion, she does not back down on it.
Background: Saika has grown up supporting her own family, by working at the local pubb. She has always had a negative view of the church.
Abilities: Healer

Brian Linger
Male
Party Member
Personality: Clever and smart mouthed. He's quick to talk, but not one to think. Often he is absent minded.
Background: Similar to Asea, he was brought up in a rich family. Asea and him were friends from an early age. He dreams of escaping his family and starting an entirely new life in another country.
Abilities: Trickster

this looks solid bro. i saw in the crit station thread that you want someone to tear your shit to pieces and i'm the man for the job. :D:

do you have a demo yet? i also might be able to help out w/ some pixel stuff but that depends on how much i like the game :barf:

There's no demo yet - frankly it's still in the preproduction phase. Everytime I think I'm ready to start story progress, I find something else to do (now I'm assembling a new tileset & making new main char sprites)

I _do_ however have the project files, which your can peak through to see what's happenin' if you like. I can send it to you via PM.
In the project I have all current workings on graphics, and systems that are done. Also quite a few maps done by my last mapper. 'Tis all, but worth a look if you like to see what I'm doing (if seeing progress being done and the game actually going somewhere will help you pick it up some more)

So, what do you say

From the screenshots you just posted:

I think that all of the characters look extremely similar and it sort of looks template based.

(MAPPING)
That interior is really big. Your forest is pretty good but the long grass could use some work. Remember to use the patches of round circle grass on top of the long grass edges to create variety. Also, you should recolor the big trees because it would look better if the trees were uniform. also, get rid of those green weeds those don't fit at all and clash. I think that your screentones are a bit too heavy as well. (its nitpicky o;)

Brian, compared to the other two names, doesn't really fit in my opinion.

Okay. So those were the negatives. I do think that this game is comping together very nicely and you are slowly, but surely, chipping away at it and that is great. Its cool to see progress from you and I think that you are making a pretty cool game and it would be cool to play a demo (when the game has a substantial amount of stuff)!

@bacon
thanks for the input.

About the characters: I made the first one first, then just erased all the hair and stuff and changed it a bit. I considered changing poses and such, but it was too difficult to keep the same style while doing so. I could also change the skin color, but beyond that, the uniformity can't be helped for now.

(MAPPING)
Well, I didn't make any of these maps, but it's always good to get input so I can know what to fix and what to do next time when I make a map myself. Round grass? I see what you mean about the big trees (the bark). Those green things were custom made, so they don't quite fit the palette.
Yeah, I should lay off the screen tone a bit. :P

Brian just seemed to come to me as a good friend's name. I really did not brainstorm on his name - at all. I just threw it in as soon as I came up with the character idea. Probably could find something better. Just afraid my names are sounding too much like all those other japanese fantasy/rpg names. Reconsidering all the names anyways.

Thanks :)

action, I'm really impressed, man!

This looks like it's come a long way from where it was. The OST looks amazing so far; can't wait to hear more! Sorry I wasn't much help before, but I wish you guys the best of luck!

I like it! Some sections don't seem as polished as they could be, and your transitions are a little rough, but the melodies are pretty original!
