Ethereal Dreams

First off, thanks for the reply! Glad you enjoyed it and hope you play the much improved 2.0 when it is released sometime soon.

High quality sound plus good composition, why would you need another composer?

*A note on music* The current demo (v1.1) does NOT contain original music. But now that we've recruited a composer, all future demos will.
The current music is from the Atelier Iris series, which is why it is being replaced with original music. Yes the series has great music, but it's a commercial series. It's no different then using Final Fantasy music, except that it's less known.

Happy New Year everyone!
Downtime killed some of my fun, but at least it was back up for midnight MST!
Some had guessed that the countdown in my sig was counting down to a new demo, it was actually intended to be counting down to New Years :P Which happens to correspond with the demo release.

Download it [Here] (53MB)
Also check out the updated first post!

YAY! I don't think I've posted my opinion on your previous demo here, before, but I do think that this is lovely!

I knew that it was a countdown to a demo. Sixty gave it away. He's so obvious.  :P

I can't wait to play. I'm looking forward to posting my thoughts.

I dunno, JD was being pretty obvious too. It made my fun even funner. Hope you both enjoy and I look forward to hearing from you guys.

And I forgot to mention in the first post, the demo is approx 2-3 hours, though it can vary largely. (I've beaten it in under an hour, and a relative took nearly 6 hours to complete it, though that is how she plays.)

YAY!  I loved the first demo.

However, do I have to play through the entire forest again?

I've played your first demo twice (cause it was that fun), so the forest part might be a bit of a bore.

Maybe put a save file that's past the events of the first demo?

Ah well, I'll deal with it =P

@availer: Sorry that you don't like the art style, but that is the one thing that is least likely to change. I hope you enjoy the game anyways if you decide to play.

@xephyr: There's been numerous changes to the content of the old demo, mostly in the very opening and the boss. I could see about making a save file just before the boss, though I would suggest watching the opening as well ;) I should have it uploaded in a half hour or so.

[Edit] As requested, a save file before the first boss: [link]
Just put it in the Saves folder.

I played the game, it was enjoyable. However, what I found special was the intro. The way you introduced the logo (which should be changed) and the animation. I'ld like to know how to do that for my game, if it would be fine could you PM me how you did it? Thanks :). Kudos for the custom tileset though.

Nothing special was used for the intro, just events and pictures, but I'll pm you with details here shortly, though it's been months since I looked at it so I'll have to go refresh it in my mind first. I'm not quite sure why you think the logo should be changed; I'm curious as to why you say that, but we have no plans to change it.

To anyone who downloaded the save file I provided for Xephyr before I made this post: There was a fatal flaw with the save file and it could have resulted in a game crashing error. That's what I get for trying to take an old save file and converting it instead of just making a new one. The file has been replaced, and is at the same link as before.

I really like this game, and I've only played a few minutes.  The only thing that annoys me is your... excessive use of punctuation.  There's nothing..................I hate more.........than....seeing stuff like..........this.

ooh.................. *shot*

Stick with things like "...\p[80]". It's what I do. (Although you might want to change the pause to 60 if you're using thr default framerate.

You are using ccoa's UMS right?

Anyway, I'll save this link and download it sometime. *starts poking father towards work interwebs and a link* :>

Ahh...that's a style quirk that I'm aware of but I just have a real hard time breaking it.  It seems to annoy a lot of people I know in person too.  lol  I really have to work out that silly little quirk, but it's been with me for so many years.  But I'm glad you like the game despite that. n.n

@JirbyTaylor: No, we aren't using ccoa's UMS, we're using dubealex's AMS.  Though eventually Racheal is going to make us a custom message system that will fit our needs.

Only 4 and a half months later then the originally planned release :P A dungeon longer at least.

We have most of the system things in place now however, so we hope to get the next demos out faster. (Depends on where we cut it off. Maks is voting for a much longer one, I'm thinking two demos in that time frame.) At very least, we have a semi-plan of attack in mind.

If you want a writing beta, I'll be happy to go over your script for you.  Would be my pleasure, really; I really like the story so far.

As for the message system... I can't believe you did all that with Dubealex's AMS.  It looks... really good; what the heck did you do to get it like that?

I also love your menu, especially the save menu; simple but effective.  I love it.

Going to one point and then coming back just to get items at the very beginning wasn't a good idea. It simply bothered me the fact I had to come back to the start point. Also the .... were disturbing, and at the very beginning there's not clear indications where to go.
Which made me stay in a place where there's no real game play for some minutes.
Graphically, the game it's ok, seems quite flat actually which didn't attract me too much. Could be revamped a bit.
I didn't continue playing yet, but I'll check it more closely later. Until now, I think it's still got a long way to go.

It's excellent so far, good work!  The original artwork is great, and I like the overall atmosphere of the game.  Right now I'm stumped at Benga Peak, going in a circle.
