The revenant in the Circle Tower is a whore. How does anyone kill that thing without having to switch down to Easy Mode?

Revenants are meant to be overpowered. The best way to beat them is to have your tank spam all of their skills at the beginning. Follow that with your DPS from behind, and have a mage nuke on it with PVP spells and status spells. If you have a healer, set them to the tank and forget everyone else.

I just freeze/petrify everything and then crush/trap it with crushing prison then kill it from afar

the only death I've had was wynne when she ignored my perfectly good tactics setup for no reason at all to her detriment

There are plenty of mods of various types. Player modules are starting to pump out in massive groves. With the expansion on the horizon, we can expect quite a bit more.
