I didn't know it was so thoroughly hated.

No, you underestimated the power of my level 53 Colonel Sanders.

Colonel! Finish this thread off with thundershock!

KFC is more popular in Japan, specifically the colonel, who's depicted as a smiling gentleman with a penchant for dressing up in various Japanese outfits depending on the month. The Japanese have a lot of fun with their holidays (they even have a holiday week), and so often times you'll see mascots in various outfits during the year. They also (obviously) sell chibi Colonel Sanders with the kiddie meals.

>_>

well, I'll be crazy and say that I loved this series as well.

I started watching when it was around eps 6 or so of the second season, watched the entire first season in less than two days, seriously, I thought the story on this one was amazing XD

dispite the robots not having a whole lot of meaning, which is cool, I wasn't a mecha type of guy before this, and now i decided to pick up seed and 00 later on.

I was also someone who liked and still like shirly, her death was really sad >_> but.. not as sad as euphemia

anyways, yeah, the ending is seriously still left in the air, I can't wait to see how it wraps up, and despite the writer already saying there won't be anymore, i do really wish they'd just screw everyone over by delaying the last eps by 3 months a continuing it for another season XD

sublim advs and all.

Code Geass is brilliant, a lot of people love it, so don't think it's hated, it's just the lot here has really loud opinions about the Colonel and his weird attires

... and then we have Ven too

I never did like the colonel... he some how offends me.

the lelouchXsuzaku combo taking over the thrown was like the highlight of the series for me followed by ep 24 and 25 of season 1.

I think when this is done I'll go watch a gundam.

Yeah, what I was saying that Geass is the epitome of anime. It encompasses nearly every stereotype that makes anime bad. It's like a black guy walking down the street with a stolen boombox on his shoulder, his pants (with a gun in the pocket) sagging down to his knees, and carrying KFC and watermelon-flavored Kool-Aid. That guy makes black people look bad like Geass makes anime look bad.

There's some anime out there that really stands out. Some of it features WAY higher production value than almost any American/western cartoon. They don't follow the stereotypes, they just portray a story in a familiar medium.

But to me, Geass is the Stereotype Black Guy and while it won't allegedly steal my car and sell it for rocks, or forget to pay its electric bill, it still drags down the entire genre.

Problem is, teens seem to really respond to this garbage, so I doubt we'll see it changing any time soon since that's their target demographic.

That made my day, thank you :D

Code Geass is entertainment. Sure, it doesn't make sense all the time, but I find it entertaining. And I like the whole alternate history thing, with Britannia becoming a superpower, America's rebellion fails, e.t.c.

lelouch is a stupid name though. Is it even a real name or did the japs just pick something at random that sounded as foreign as possible to them?

All the characters do seem anorexic though.

the manga group Clamp did the character designs (They did a lot of work but Card Captor sakura is probably one of the better know ones), this is just there style.

lol, yeah, clamp, idk, I'm fine with they're style, but they do look skiny.

but still though, I really just fell in love with the story, it's really sterotypiccal maybe, but it does it very well and indeed, it has EVERYTHING

That fact probably is the funnest of them all, it's just throwing together all the anime cliches ever done, and tuning them up by flodding everything with angst, becuase omg there is so much angst in that series, which is one of the biggest reasons i like it XD

it's so sad but they keep beating themselves up for it, I'm pretty sure every character on that show has gotten mind fucked at one point or another.

several times over.  How many characters were killed just to later find out there still alive. I wouldn't be surprised if the king came back.

I love this story too. maybe at first glance the characters seem stereotypical but I find that as time goes on they acquire quite a bit of extra depth.

That's the problem with most anime nowadays. Stuff like Gurren Lagann and Haruhi. They're popular, not for doing anything new, but by pandering to anime fans and being conscious of that fact.

For example, back when I was into anime guys would be constantly surrounded by a harem of women, each of which represented some fetish the writer was into at the time. It got way too common and people stopped watching harem anime. Nowadays an anime writer would approach the same thing, but self-consciously have the characters draw attention to it. It'd be like Tenchi being hit on by Ryoko and then say "Ryoko, take your hand out of my pants! If you don't people will think we're Ranma and Shampoo!"

Gurren Lagann has some stupid quirk of the universe wherein by simply believing in anime mecha tropes it comes true. Haruhi is the biggest whore, making sure to tackle every stereotype ever done by anime ever, but tacking on a semi-serious mind-fuck tone at the end to cover up that it's Excel Saga without funny tit jokes.

Normally that's ok, for example I love the Venture Bros. because it plays up those 70s/80s cartoon show stereotypes in a self-parodying manner, but it's the anime fans who go off and say "Oh, this anime is so deep and just THE SHIT!" when all it does is copy something else the anime fan is too young to have seen.

Back on topic, I know the OP said nothing to that nature, but I think it explains why people are so tired of hearing about fucking anime. The hype passed "excessive" a loooong time ago (probably the 80s) and it now evokes rage at simply mentioning it.

Anyway, if people are now interested in watching mecha anime I highly suggest Gundam SeeD, Wing or G-Gundam. While Gundam isn't the be-all-end-all of mecha anime, it isn't as "Evangelion" as most anime.

well, I am young, and I really do like Haruhi >_>

idk, my favorite series is Ichigo 100%, which is a harem manga, followed by GTO, still the manga.

things like Gurren laggan was really parody, but still really good and entertaining, it was pretty weird and fun to watch it just get more and more serious, even though it began as a rediculous comedy, not that it ever does get that serious, and in the end it's attempt at being serious was a complete fail

idk, I think I just want to stick up for Haruhi >_>

You can stick up for Haruhi if you want, it's your opinion and you can express it.

Hell, if I were younger I'd be into Haruhi too (hardcore), I know that for a fact.

My problem is anime offers nothing new, and that's the same thing everyone's been saying for a long time. Though, I don't think Japanese writers are lazy for it, it's just what people in Japan like to watch. They like seeing the same old things, just like on American tv. However, no one should confuse that for inventive writing, which is the mistake some people (none here that I've seen so far) make. When you first get into anime it seems so new and inventive until you realize it's just the culture that's new.

I shouldn't, but I find Code Geass very entertaining.  I hate the cliches and the entirety of the first half of season 1, but I find the series very entertaining.  Yeah, I've watched a lot of better shows before, but it really captures my interest and I don't know why.  I hate Clamp and I hate mech anime and jesus god I hate pink hair.  But somewhere between the Euphinator and
Lelouch fucking Geassing God
I became addicted.  But I'll be the first person to say it contains a lot of crap to pander to anime fans.  If it was done in the style of Darker Than Black with all the school segments cut out and a more serious art style, I would like it a LOT more.  No matter how much you like Code Geass, you have to admit that Clamp's art style doesn't suit it at all.

Now I need something new to catch my interest.  Where the fuck is my second season of Darker Than Black?

In Code Geass the important thing is the strategies of Lelouch. Really they ARE AMAZING. I kind of understand ven with the highschool shit, but idk Naruto isn't highschool crap do you hate it?
Before saying something i would read the Shippuden Manga the story is crazy and awesome.
(a lil offtopic with naruto sorry)
EDIT:
LOL HAREM ANIME

I remember my naruto days. The anime fillers killed it for me (this was when the fillers were new in japan) and the manga got way too boring. Maybe one day when the craze dies down I'll go back.

Schinizel?

He looked like a cool midboss, but wtf curls ended up to be... nuts. The way Marian turned out was just plain unorthodox, really weird, but it worked, I didn't like her anyways.
