They shouldn't be taugth about Family Planning until later... but apparently they are just teaching them about the differences about a man and a women, and how they weren't born in some cabbage.  Although they are not taught everything about the uterus, and all the stages of pregnency.

The idea is they start off learning the difference between a man and a woman, and it's built up over the lessons, until they finally know about ghonnorea and HIV and teenage pregnancies.

(I never knew you could catch a disease from sex until high school, and yet already knew all the details way before then. So... yeah.)

Yeah the general idea with 'sex ed' for very young children is to say "here's an area where adults shouldn't be touching you, and here's who you go to talk to if they are" and to give them a sense of safety and security in being able to do that. Most child abuse that goes undocumented is due to either the child not knowing any better or being afraid to tell anyone about it, so early childhood sex ed is supposed to amend that and hopefully reduce and prevent child abuse. It's not about handing out condoms and talking about safe sodomy like the religious nuts and ultraconservatives try to say (especially when they're trying to demonize political opponents).

I agree with what you said. Many people don't say any about themselves being abused and some wait until late in adulthood to come out with it. Condoms should not even be handed out until adulthood. There are high schools saleing condoms. That is like saying. We tell you to wait until you are marry or grown but go ahead and buy some condoms.

Because not giving teens condoms = teens choosing not to have sex, right?  No, two 15 year olds are going to fuck each other whether you like it or not, the best thing to do is ensure they do it safely.

Just to remond everybody this thread is about child sexuality, not teenage sexuality.  Teenage sexuality is a topic that has been beaten to fucking death by kojillions of people from all sides of the argument, while Child sexuality is something relatively untouched (though still obviously existent) due to massive taboos.  If you wanna talk about teenage sexuality go bump one of the billions of other threads in the symp.

There are better systems than the public high schools for distributing birth control anyway. Many states have free clinics which provide sex ed and a variety of birth control and health checkups for anyone, no questions asked, that's how my wife got hers when we were younger.

I think kids who know about sex and other adult themes for the most part turn out better than they would have otherwise. My brother told me about sex, handjobs, blowjobs, masturbation, all that stuff when I was like no older than 8. I have no STD's, I know to use a condom, I know to avoid sexual predators (dur), and so on.

The sad thing is, as most of you have mentioned, the kids that were taught that "Omg, t3h secks is BAD!" laugh uncontrollably whenever someone says "BReasts" or "Penis" or "Vagina".

However, I do not want to see my 5 year old masturbating to one night in Paris (or whatever it is) either. Is there something wrong with that? Well, in my OPINION, yes and no. Call me a hypocrite, but I think anything below the age of 10 is too young to be exposed to such things. Am I talking about 5 seconds of nipples in a movie? No, kids have short attention spans anyway. But am I talking about walking in on my child wanking it to some hardcore porn site? Yes. There are lines that are not meant to be crossed.

Porn never grossed me out as a kid, I remember finding or being exposed to the occasional cheap 80s porn rag (uuugh) but it didn't gross me out either, I just spent a few moments noting the naked men, women, and trannies, reveled in the fact that I was doing something I REALLY REALLY wasn't supposed to be doing (my mom has more fear of sex than a catholic altar boy) and moved on.

Also, trying to derive mass influences for isolated events such as this is patently absurd.  Such things can't logically have any impact on the larger portion of society, or we'd have lots of such stories floating around and it wouldn't be news anymore.
