[BT] Outlaw City and Outlaw City Dark Past

I just finished it.

Very impressive. You did a great job with the battle system. You managed to incorporate more strategy than most other RPGs, comersial and non-comersial. The plot was also good enough to keep my interest.

There were a few things that could have been better though. I think I just describe my strategy against the last boss to highlight the problems.

I entered the battle with all party members protected with an unknown amounth of layers of Kinetic Barriers that apparently carried over between battles. The boss tried in vain to hurt me, but only managed to trigger the "Barrier Block" messages. Before it had any chance to peel of my barriers, Mistress Mystic cast Arcane Break which stopped it's action with an apparent accuracy of 100%. Then Mistress Mystic just kept recasting Arcane Break every time she had the stamina and defended othervise. Occasionally, the boss did manage to get a turn, but at that rate I had replenished the Barriers. Finally, the boss got of a HP=1 move, but other than that, it never even hurt me. Dark and Sahra could pretty much take their sweet time to kill it.

Thanks for the bug find Dark Ruby, I didn't realize that was still broken!

I don't plan on fixing it, however, until the release of "Outlaw City v2" which will be my prime work for the next month (when I plan to release it) now that I have time.

I would ask that anyone who can think of specific skills that are too powerful (and why) or are useless, as well as areas of the game that seem weak in story or where the dialogue doeesn't flow, please feel free to PM me (prefered) or post here.

Just finished it! That was great, the battle agains't bane was one of the greatest I've had. And the music REALLY helped.

I always thought that Beam Pillar was too powerful, especially since every attack could go critical. Also, compared to Beam Pillar, explosion sucked. it delt hardly any damage, and took too long to power up (charge)

Thats what I think though ^_^

Beam pillar does does between 50-100 damage 12 times fully upgraded, which comes out at 600-1200 damage. Explosion does 450-500 damage to every enemy when fully upgraded. Over three enemies, that's already more than beam pillar.

Yay, I am glad I will be able to play an RPG once I get a computer again. Your work looks excellent, Anaryu, you really did the black tuesday contest proud!

Ruby, don't you think it is ironic to give him a seal of approval from your game company when his game beat yours in a contest? Not trying to diss you as you did get a complete game into BT which is quite a feat in itself, and you should be proud, but it would be kinda like me offering the folks at UbiSoft a MimeSong Productions seal of approval... you know?

Pre-version 2 Update

I hate to "bump" the post, but a new change to Outlaw City has just been uploaded. Due to there being some issues with difficulty in parts of the game for people, and Very Easy not being as Easy as I thought, I have uploaded a version where Easy and Very Easy have been modified.

Save files will work correctly, although if you are on Very Easy mode, you should go into the Difficulty menu and reselect Very Easy mode again! To move over your save files, simply copy them from the old install directory to the new, or extract this new version to where the old one exists.

Easy has been toned down to the previous Very Easy level, and Very Easy has been toned to the "backup" level I created originally (difficulty 0 instead of 1) but didn't feel was worth an options.

As always, any and all feedback is welcome, as I do respond to bugs, spelling/grammar errors and other ideas people present to me.

I dunno, maybe I'm missing something, but I've looked through this entire thread and haven't seen a working download link to the game's file. The link in the first post doesn't work.

That's probably because the file was deleted off of rmxp.org's directory (think ccoa mentioned something about this when Black Tuesday was going on). Just wait for Anaryu to re-upload the game, if he feels inclined to do so. :$

Holy crud! No, I had misnamed the file a bit (forgot to take the space before I uploaded it).

I'm guessing either:
a. No one tried to download it (or)
b. No one figured I needed to know my download wasn't working.

I'm going to assume a. since the (very few) interested parties probably already have a copy!

The download link (or to be accurate the location's name) is fixed! Sorry for the issues, and don't hesitate to let me know if something's not working. (I bought some FTP space here on rmxp.org, so until I decide to stop that, the file you're downloading isn't from the Black Tuesday link, which should in theory still be active.)

Well just looking at this game, the story and thes screenshots, this definately looks amazing. I will have to download it and check it out sometime soon...impressive work..

Short impressions: Skill and battle system is original, I like it. Music needs to be reworked, most of the tracks I heard annoyed me, and there's some priority issues with some tiles, but EVERY game has that problem, so I'm not going to bitch about that so much.

Dialogue is great at points, and then really bad at points. I'm enjoying playing so far, but I gotta say, this prime number switch puzzle in the sewers is giving me a headache. I suck at math.

Every puzzle should have a "paper" near it with hints/solutions if any given puzzle proves to be either difficult, or if I communicated the puzzle in such a way that it doesn't make sense.

lol ^_^ Like I said, mine sucked big-time. It was just a 5 hour crapstall, and that's how I congratulate the one who beat me lol
