Believing in Santa Clause

I know thats the cause.. BUT. I'd want all the Credit, i mean Young Children love whoever gives them presents, why give Santa any credit. Make them believe in some things, but as cool as an idea of santa is, he should give less presents then the parents at least.

I hope you don't have children, atleast yet.

That's a very selfish & defeatist way of thinking.

In ten years, of COURSE the kid's going to know that YOU gave them the presents, not Santa.  Who cares if the little kid gets excited about a magic man giving them stuff? Are people really so selfish that they have to deny a child a playful, fun idea just to get some credit for going to Wal-Mart and dropping down a little cash?

Eventually you'll get credit for it anyway: And 10x more, since you didn't make them resent you by shitting all over their dreams. :P

I wouldn't tell them to believe in it. I won't force my kids to accept my belief, I'll tell them the story of Santa Claus and Jesus and I'll let them choose what they think to be real. After that I'll tell them the kid my beliefs and what I belief and that's that. I believe no one should really impose Santa or religion on their child but rather let the child make the decision.

(I deleted your accidental double post :P)

That's a great idea to have. If they run up to you and talk about Santa, then talk about Santa. If they run up to you and talk about Jesus, talk about Jesus. Provide information--that's all you really have to do. They'll decide for themselves whether or not to believe in the things you say.

You can tell them that red is red and that 2+2=4, but you can't tell them something so intangible as a belief, myth, or story--all you can do is provide information about it :)

Why give them that false hope in the first place, but instead they should get joy that you as loving parents gave it to them.
False hope?  It's called magical wonder and imagination.  Most of the world shares this.  You do what you want with your kids.  Spoil their childhood and make them jaded at the world.  Why should I care?  But, I will allow my daughter to believe as long as she wants.  She loves the idea and I love seeing her happy and excited.  Nothing wrong with that.

You could just tell them you are Santa Claus, and wear the suit once and a while. That way, they believe in Santa, and you get all the credit. When they get older and start asking questions, tell them the truth, that you really are a man who gave them presents as a child and wore a red and white suit.

I don't understand why you would even NEED the credit if it's your kid.

They are going to find out later they were from you all along anyway!

Credit has nothing to do with it, I agree on that.  Who cares if they think Santa, or Frosty brought them gifts.  Like Elias said, they will know eventually one day and love you just the same for it.

When I was a kid, there were two clear cut times I got the present.  If I made Christmas lists, these two presents at these two Christmases would have been the numero uno on the list.  One was from Santa Clause, the other from my mother.
Honestly.  Getting the big gift from Santa had more impact, honestly.  My mother get's me x-mas and birthday presents.  She also cooks for me, and is something I can see.  She's there every day.  Santa?  Kind of seems magical and opens that "what if there's more than what you can see everyday" possibility in my head, at least.

Thats pretty much what I have been trying to say.  It makes kids wonder and believe in a wonderful world.  we have enough BS out there when we get older.  Let them be kids as long as you can.
