Age 24
Past Growing up as a child, he was exceptionally skilled in using wind magic, much more so than even the most learned of magicians. He led a peaceful childhood in the kingdom of Praea with his friend Stroph Adelaide, whom grew up beside him. At the age of ten he became witness the murdering of his mother. He soon lost his gift of magic.
Present After losing his magical ability, he began training with the local militia in the art of the sword. He showed promise in his training. After 14 years, Gale is honed into a strong young man with a strong sense of justice. Though he often wears a serious impression, he is known to change expressions on the fly. On the eve of his 24th, he set off to find his mothers murderer.

Age 22
Past The childhood friend of Gale, she cherished her friendship with him from the day they banged heads. A citizen of Praea and born from nobility, she grew up wanting and getting what she asked for. Gale moved in with Stroph and her mother while she was 8, strengthening their bond not only as friends but as siblings
Present Feeling her troubled friends pain, she decided to learn the art of Divinity. She strengthened her resolve to help Gale find the man whom destroyed his life. Now 22 years old, Stroph is still the carefree girl she grew up to be. She gives off a sense of urgency in her personality.

Age 27
Present A man of pride and strength. He is always sure of his role and knows what must be done. Disowned by his parents, Anson was the youngest son in a line of royalty. Having settled down with his young wife, she quickly deteriorates in health for no apparent reason. As a soldier of Annihliath, he seeks aid from his country. One man seems to know the cure, setting him off on a crusade far from collecting herbs.

Present A highly pensive young woman of the Kingdom of Annihliath, she knows not what her purpose is in life. Wandering throughout her native city, she seeks out her desires at night, far from the safety of her home and family.

Present Young Valcan Ignashus, a hopeful cadet of Annihliath, he aspires to become a hero in the impending war between Annihliath and Praea. Sent to travel with Anson on a 'mission', he knows nothing of the fate bestowed upon him.

Past The father of Gale, he lives in the country of Praea with his wife Jemma. As time passes, it seems he begins to act differently around his family. Frequent headaches and nightmares begin to torment him as he struggles to hang on to his humanity. He abandons Gale and leaves the town of Hourig the same day his wife Jemma is murdered.
Present He hasn't been seen since.

Present A prestigious man known for both his wealth and his compassion, he resides in the port town of Nasbeth. Little is known about Valorus from before his arrival in Nasbeth. It is said that he came upon a wealth long forgotten.

Past Jemma, wife of Abel Coren gave birth to Gale in the recently destroyed town of Hourig. She suffered greatly through labor, having been cared for in bed for a full year afterwards. Though nothing seemed different, she became more timid after the birth. She was murdered 10 years after Gales birth.

Past Belinda, wife of Ethan Adelaide gave birth to Stroph in the town of Hourig. Best friends with Jemma, she often visited the Corens on the other side of town. After Jemmas death, Ethan went after Abel whom disappeared from town. She took care of both Stroph and Gale alone.
Present She currently resides in the small fragment town of Sirpa in the kingdom of Praea.

A young man seeks revenge from the death of his mother. A young woman follows her feelings. A man desperately tries to save his wife. All will be pulled into a conflict infinitely more important than their own.

The world of Laritha has been wrought with conflict since the advent of written history. Kingdoms have risen and fallen, mimicking the tides themselves. The cycle of rising and falling kingdoms ends when 224 years into the past, in the year 1105, a large event called "The Awakening" shakes Laritha. In the eastern Kingdom of Praea, within the depths of the lush Santuri mountain range, A group of magicians in an attempt to magnify their powers, seek its source. They find the source, yet their efforts at expanding the rift go unanswered. Finally, they resort to human sacrifice, successfully opening the rift. It expands ever so slightly, releasing a barrage of energies that flow through the cave, eventually finding the exit and spreading out through Laritha. It lights the cave aglow as the magicians themselves die from the supersaturation of magical energy.

The effects of the magical energies are felt hours later. The weather becomes erratic, causing storms and typhoons to wreak havoc upon the open seas. Earthquakes split the earth and volcanoes erupt anew. A fourth of Larithas human population die from this event, and all life in the lush Santuri mountain range die. Two Weeks later, a band of knights are sent by the king of Praea, Tarquinius Papius to investigate the phenomenon. Following the streams of light coming from the cave, they discover magical beings that forewarn them never to return. Bringing news to the king, they immediately seal the cave and the entrance to the Santuri mountain range.

As the years pass, generations of humans begin show natural ability of wielding magic. A new age of discovery begins, yet with it comes questions. As the phenomenon of "The Awakening" fades from public view, people begin to ask questions why magic had decided to manifest. Animals had also inherited magic. A new sickness arises, given the name "Unyielding Curse". Only those who show magical abilities suffer this curse. Incidentally, only magic can slow its progress.

Kingdoms rebuild, cities repopulate and the world of Laritha begins anew after the advent of "The Awakening". Though new dangers have presented themselves in the form of magical creatures, new answers have appeared through magic. two kingdoms arise over all others, the kingdom of Praea to the east, and Annihliath to the west. Both kingdoms, pride themselves in helping those in trouble near their gates, inevitably annexing nearby cities to expand their influence. They ally each other through peace talks and similar ideals. At the height of their powers, both kingdoms take different paths. While Praea, satisfied with its size, decides to stabilize its economy and raise the standard of living for all of its inhabitants. Annihliath on the other hand, becomes an empire and continues its crusade through Laritha, resorting to military force in order to expand its influence.

1304. Despite the kings best efforts, Praea begins to fall into decline. Food shortages abound and the peasantry begin to riot. Local militia are pushed to the limit as the army spreads thinly throughout the bulging kingdom. To further their problems, Annihliath breaks the alliance with Praea, deeming them unworthy of the honor. In the year 1329, as Annihliath looks to the east, Praea finds itself juggling between internal conflict and external assault.

Yeah, I really do like the maps. I also like the face's!

I think the whole "revenge to kill then sucked into a greater conflict" is VERY cliche, but if you're able to pull it off well, more power to ya!

Can't comment on the story, its too vague.

But, I guess this is the making of what will hopefully be a successful game.
 
Now, you really should include some more information here. I mean, it can't be that hard to tell us a little bit about your characters, can it? Just a little about their personality, backstory, motives, and maybe something about their role in battle, or the way you first meet them. Not really hard to do if you've already developed the characters thoroughly(which you should have).

Your story synopsis could use some beefing up, too. It's one... two... three... four. Only four short sentences. You can do better than that, now can't you? Right now I really have no idea what's going on with the plot. All we know right now is that there are three separate characters with their own motives, and some sort of conflict. Not nearly enough.

On the positive side, your maps are more than adequate. So often I see people struggle with properly using the port town tileset(myself included), but, aside from a few odd-looking areas, you seem to have mastered its use. Bravo.

Add some more info on the story, cast, and such, and you'll be all set. Good luck, and happy game-making!  :thumb:
 
Thanks everyone for your replies and criticisms thus far. I know it's horribly lacking in story, or should I say I overdid it in screenshots. You can consider this topic as one of those stupid commercials that show off a vague "what the hell was that" of an upcoming movie that is far from finished.

Well I suppose that is quite cliche. However I can't seem to grasp the idea that a person is a farmers son, just tilling away the fields, and all of a sudden getting sucked into a greater conflict. I mean, what would be a better way of getting sucked into a big conflict? Being a soldier I suppose, but I never said he wasn't ;]

And with the lack of story, character information, etc etc. That's about 80% fleshed out. I just haven't had the time to word it out the way I want to convey it to the general public, so I decided to go the vague ooo-mystical route. Then again, it's not very mystical if its a game made from an RPG Maker engine. Anyway, please look forward to updates!

Being 24 doesn't give him immunity to cliches.

Bleh you're absolutely right. I'd probably change it if there weren't more to it though.
 
This is looking fairly good. The mapping in your in-game screenshots is definitely wonderful. (aside from some mapping errors; but it still "fits in" if you know what I mean). The structure in those port maps is well developed, although I can't help feeling that it could do with a bit more of... "stuff."

That storyline of yours really got me waiting. Now I'm itching to try out the game. It's definitely a bit clichéd, but any cliché can be carried out with the right execution.

In all, it looks like a solid project. Good luck with this.  :thumb:

I've seen those characters before, I tried using them myself. But the guy who created those only has limited battlers in that style, make sure that's not gonna cost you.

But I gotta say graphically your project looks really cool. Looks like you're a fairly good photoshopper and mapper, it really shows. Keep it up dude.

Hahaha, yeah. Well, that character is commonly used. But to be honest, that Valcan guy seems to be 13. :x

Ah, and I'm downloading the demo after I finish playing back. Expect a detailed critique from me, then. ;)
 
You have quite some depth with mapping. The one map with the mountain overlooking the valley, that is what I call depth, good use of shadows :D

Jesus christ dude, your mapping is insane. You're probably the best mapper I've ever seen.

What script did you use for the battle system?

Anyway, I found some flaws:

- I think you should decrease the running speed, because nobody can really run that fast. And add a running pose, it looks weird now.
- When in battle, if both the characters bars are ready, you can't pick wich character should attack first. If you wait it out, you always have to attack with the girl first. That could be a major pain later on.
- The boss in the cave did a little too much damage. 200 HP on one hit is like 1/3 of one characters HP. This was especially hard after all the random fights in the mountains.

Anyway, awesome game, keep it up.

I used a side view with ATB script, made by a japanese guy. I don't know the exact name but I can post it here later if you want. I used it in conjunction with the blitz script.

-I'll look into the running, portion.
-I can't do much about picking which character should attack first, it should be in the order of who got their time bar finished first.
-For the boss, I was going for a 'omgwtf' boss where you'd be forced to use a revive at least once. Some people didn't seem to have too much of a problem with them though, they were probably higher level than you when you got there. I was also counting on people putting the out-of-battle healing items to good use (the food, bandages, etc).

Also, I'm assuming you've all used the Speed skill? It actually gives Gale another skill which can only be used afterwards.
 
Yeah I saw the Speed skill once but after that it was gone. I didn't really get it, but I used it yeah.

And yeah, if you can post the script some time, that'd be nice.
