Back in the Day...

June 06. Only ever stopped in for a few weeks at a time every 4 months or so, as my RPGM interests are nothing more than whims that are swiftly crushed when I remember how limited the software is. Everyone I remember from this place is gone now, anyone know where they all went? : D

Also can anyone explain how this place has like 50 active members on here at a time but like one post an hour? Wtf is up with that.

49 of them are leeching resources while contributing nothing
the other one is asking for help about once an hour

377.5 posts a day (admin cp) = ~ 16 posts per hour.

There's lots of oldbies on as has been said

Although I don't recognise you at all bud

you forgot the intermittent mawking that happens

You wouldn't remember cause, as I said, was very much an every-now-and-thener. Plus I had a different username (dorito). Used to have great ideas, get really excited, only to open the software and have my vision crushed by various limitations (was always a lot more interested in epic story telling than gameplay, so I'm sure you can imagine).

What I meant though was, is this still the most prominent rpgm community, or is there another that rivals it? Seem to recall there being a very popular site run by a frenchman, can't remember the name for the life of me. Plus with all the admin/ownership drama that I never paid attention to there could be a thousand spin offs for all I know that segmented the community.

I do not know any prominent forum run by a frenchman

afaik there are three big rm forums in the english community; rpgmakervx.net, rrr (which is TERRIBLE,) and hbgames. there are a few smaller ones that are almost up there but not quite, and like a million tiny ones that probably don't have what it takes in the first place.

as far as prevalence goes, the big three seem about equal right now (maybe with rmvx in a bit of a lead,) but that's just subjective and not based on any statistical stuff.

Man... I've never really been around that consistently. I started out on RM2K in a forum called Gaming Ground Zero... damn that place was scary. Intense Mods who -demanded- resources from those capable of making them.

Was going by Valentine Enigma back then. I remember LordGradient. And the move... ccoa and Erk taking over...

ccoa, TREG, Lene and myself chatted a heck of a lot. Lene made some music for my project Fear of Life and ccoa scripted the CBS for the Kinetic Phase Alpha....good times... then I sort of disappeared on account of the fact I was made homeless... not fun and I don't reccomend it.

I remember the RRRB! My game was rated Mature
You should totally bring that back.

Then when I came back... all was strange and new! o_o

Oh! And Sketch, he was awesome sauce. He hosted my project for me.

Whatever it was called, back in the day (late 2k3, early XP, something like that) it was pretty much the best place to go for tutorials and the likes. Had the original RGSS beginners tute and stuff like that. No intention on visiting it, just bugging me that I can't remember its name. Think the guy who owned it was called alex. Any bells at all? :p

I never got the concept of the RRRB.

why get an outside body to assess your game on arbitrary grounds and reduce their reasoning to a single letter, then stamp an ugly-looking logo on your thread?

if you care about that sort of thing, you can just include "yeah uh this game has swearing and blood" somewhere in your thread and the README.

that's what weirds me out about certain pockets of the rm community; a lot of people want to go for a professional look, but only know how to go through the motions of things. they mimic the professionals as best they can, without really understanding the reasons the professionals do what they do. so they paste a "Games for Windows" banner on top of their thread, they form a one-person company with a strange name, and they start arbitrarily giving their demo releases version numbers.

you think that if the game companies wouldn't love to leave the ugly-ass ESRB ratings off their boxes if they weren't legally obligated? the best way to be professional is to be organized, and to do what you need to do without making unnecessary motions. there are no prerequisites for professionalism.

and kaidus, I definitely thought you were talking about something that was active in the here and now. I wouldn't know about earlier rm forums; I came on the scene pretty late.

Eh I expected it to still be active. CREATION ASYLUM. Literally remembered it mid sentence : D. GJ mawk you memory jogging memory jogger.

Creation Assylum is exactly like my forums: completely and utterly dead, has been forever, but just so goddamn old that one post a week begins to add up over the years.

I barely went there, maybe it was just a weird coincidence that whenever I did there was a bucket load of users on. Was generally there cause of something linked here (eg. rgss tutorials), so could well be.

how did CA start, anyway? I've been thinking it was another spinoff from a .org schism, but that's probably complete bullshit on my part.
