Um... what?

Let me get this straight. You people are atually saying that this will produce games that are more generic than the kind of garbage that RPG Maker already produces? That's just laughable. Have you people looked around the forums at all?

The difference is that RPGs are boring if done bad. If a platformer is done bad, it still has gameplay. The worst platformer will always be better than the worst RPG (barring glitches).

To the people that claim that action games need some sort of hook or something special to make them stand out, my answer is: yes, obviously. So do RPGs. Very very very few RPG games on this forum are worth anything because they don't have anything that sets them apart. I really don't get what you're saying at all.

It seems that a lot of people are against this simply because it requires actual game design knowledge to make a good action game, as opposed to the majority of people on this forum who just write whatever crap they think of and call it an RPG.

+1

I would add that RPGs generally shouldn't be considered real games anyways, but...

Man, this looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I've been wanting to make a platformer for a while, but since I'm so horrendously unskilled at anything so complex as even Sue's Workshop (Cave Story modification tool,) it had to be filed under "pipe dream."

Now, though, I'm getting excited thinking of the possibilities. I'm incompetent when it comes to thinking up RPG stuff, but I already have like three action games sketched in my head. Is that a little sad?

A: It'll bring a lot more variety to our little pocket of the amateur indie community (i.e. all the Maker forums.)
B: Tell me you've never wanted to make a fun little game where there's a little dude with a gun running around killing other little dudes with guns.

I know I'm going to be absolutely pumped when I get this (the same way I was pumped when I first got RMXP,) so expect me to flood this place with horrible "look mama I can make a video game" games soon enough.

They just ran out of ideas on how to improve their rpg maker series. I guess VX was proof.

That new maker just means we'll be seeing a lot of zelda/mario fangames instead of FF.

Mario fangames are much more welcome (for me) than FF fangames (as long as the levels are creatively made). The nice thing about platformers is they aren't as art intensive as RPG's, so it's more likely people will make custom graphics.

No way to tell yet. The fact that they're accessible from live doesn't necessarily indicate that the games themselves could access the internet through Live, though. I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

As long as their is script support (which there probably is), this should bring in a bunch a interesting new games. It doesn't seem too hard to mess up a platformer but I don't know about the whole Zelda-ish system. Only problem is all the fangames that are going to be made. Why can't most people come up with anything original?

Only three? That's definitely sad. I have at least 15.

+5 for me. My point exactly. it takes 3 sparks of a brain cell to make a action game. and rpg isnt so simple. well... shouldnt be. I came across as a defiler on my reply, and if by some miracle people do make playable games on the maker, very cool, im just not gonna get hyped up for it.

I'm actually looking for the first gauntlet fan game.... yick....

I have a mix feeling about this. The only good thing I can find from this program is porting to the 360.  I'll have to wait for more information, like what kind of coding language it'll use and how flexible it'll be, before I can make a decision. I mean, if porting to xbox 360 is the only good thing this program offers me, I might be better off with XNA :(  (Free + more flexible)

I'm sure they'll translate it into English. Xbox 360 is popular outside of Japan, so the porting feature would attract non-japanese users more.

From what I can see in the screenshot, it seems like there's a 'plug-in' feature. Wonder what that is....

And this screenshot has a tab called 'Program' , which I guess that would be where the scripting go.

Here's hoping for a possibility to actually modify the editor itself, Torque Game Builder way; that way we could have a isometric tile engine with a compatible map editor for it and so forth.

Well, after thinking about it, this might actually turn out to be pretty cool... Maybe I can finally make that Bomberman fangame I was planning on that just didn't work in RMXP...

And by the way, I've got like about 5...All based on original characters/ideas XD
