a fresh breeze

actually I'm going to use both autotiles but I changed palettes for every single sprite.. *upped the contrast and what not too look better with the new style*

@Des: Sorry to sound "Noobish" but what is colormagix? Is that some sort of program?

@Green: I'mma going to try and sprite with this later (after school probably), looks like a promising template! Maybe you should release some new tutorials on how to sprite differently on this new model? Just my 2cents ^.^

@ Geox-2.0: I handpick them, but I think my screen is a bit bright compared to others.
@Xaixis: good idea, seeing someones work in progress seems to help people.

I took a little time to decide on the style and if I'de continue etc etc. And I decided to go with a style more cartoony than the last character mockups I did, and less cartoony than the old style.

what do you guys think? Imho this works best :)

I also quickly did a side view for the chubbytemplate, I didn't feel like tweaking untill I got some advice..

and last but not least:
how I work *not the way TO work*

The more cartoony look might work better yes.
For the obese guy you should remove one pixel or two from the chest, too pointy i think.
e- Also noticed you have shoulder blades for the standing back frame but not the walking, still a wip so no biggie.
Nice work btw, i work in a similar way except i make a scalp marker, draw out the hair around the head then color in the rest of it.

An example, imo i think it looks better this way, i also added one or two for the arm.

I much preferred the more detailed hair. It proved that using breeze doesn't mean a spriter had a lack of ability.

It also meant the games characters had a lot of style to them.

As a side note, im not liking the shadows... They're too in your face and in your demo screen shots, the characters shadows arent transparent...

thanks Wa :] i appreciate all the help mate

Detailed hair doesn't prove you're better at spriting ;) and this just fits my style more. As for the shadow, delete it if you want but I like them, they make the character stand out more against the tiles. Also a lot of games use this *see sword of mana for example*

and WalkingAbomination reminded me to upload my scalpmarker

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. :)

Oh, just something else I noticed. Check your screenshot of the two auto tiles. The rocks drop shadow is at the bottom right, this suggests a different light souce to the sprites, which have their shadow directly under them.

Edit:

Hey GR, could you try something for me? I have planned to make a mob in the game a rolling cube. But I cant seem to get the roll right. Do you reckon to you mock up a 20 second template on how a cube would look rolling as a character set? litterally just needs outlines. Do you have any ideas?

@Alicix: the topdown shade underneath the characters is an artistic choice, imo it looks stylistic and doesn't have to correspondend with the rest of the shades.

here's a quicky but remember this is not a request section..

@kidd6686: ooh that looks pretty nice my suggestions are:
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s315 ... erhelp.png[/IMGzoom]
1 change the grey to a colored grey "blueish teint or maybe even green or red"
2 the highlight looks a little odd, it should be much smaller and less flat.
3 the helmet is pillowshaded on some places.
4 add some more contrast at some places

Yeah I know its not a request station and I'm sorry to have even asked. but I indeded it to fit in with your breeze sprite (in fact it'll follow the character around a lot) so I was wondering how you'd go about doing it.

Great work once again and I'll show you what I come up with after I've messed about with it.

... =o Green Panda?
j00 iz now my herro. :D

Seriously, I greatly admire your work, Raven. ^^ Both you and WA, you guys rock, and you both made templates that are just SO CUTE! :D

 PANDA!!! *hugs* xD
The simpler cartoony style is much better, I was actually holding off on spriting on this because the more detailed hair was intimidating me(hair is my weakest point, one of the reasons I liked Breeze so much was because the hair was so simple) *throws away old Breeze* guess I better get to work ^_^

I LOVE the slimy (and your avatar). I like this breeze better then the others (I like the ghost to).
It appears to be more palette correct.

Not quiet, take a look:

Old hair style is on the left, new is on the right. The new one's hair is still a bit more detailed and harder ^_^
(This is just a quick WIP to show the difference, I'm still playing with it).
GR- You should release a hair palette, I suck at picking colors so I keep finding myself using yours, and you've only shown 3 hair colors xD
