There's a good reason for this, usually the moderators are carefully picked by the owner of the forum.

That's imo one of the biggest flaws this forum has.

What?  That was a one time gimmick and it didn't even matter cause everyone was just like, "i like staff the way it is," so no changes came of it.  Please don't post misinformation.  Second, if you have a problem with staff direct a pm to the administrators.

Chief, having a big flameout over having your anime hottie thread (which was a guaranteed spam magnet) locked is no way to endear yourself here.  Going on IRC and arrogantly telling staff members that we should make you a moderator, isn't helping.  Continuing to baw over the fact that people (like Dalton) are leaving constructive advice that would actually be useful to you if you were a conscientious developer, isn't helping.  To make it short you are really looking like a crappy member here and should really consider changing your attitude.  If you don't like the rules or the culture its a big internet.  Don't let me keep you here.

Here's your general problem, champ.  You keep thinking like a high school kid trying to be king of the clique.  Deflate your ego.  Seriously it's going to get in your way of being a great game designer.  Dalton did not take twenty minutes of his time to make such posts because he is jealous or has a grudge.  He doesn't know you from SS Muu for christ's sakes.  You are making the mistake of assuming that because someone has left comments that are skeptical of your methods and features that they do so because they hate you and are jealous.  I see it differently.  I think people are leaving you such comments because they see potential and are trying to help you with some thoughtful advice.  If they thought this whole thing was gay they wouldn't take the time.  This would just fall to the bottom of the forum like so many other threads.  Like I said most users would like this sort of attention.

Also we take pride in not being like the majority of RM communities.

Seriously, if you don't like the game or the idea then don't say anything at all, if you on the other hand have something good to say about it or have some positive feedback (like some, just some of you do) then, you're free to say it.

Sorry to break it to you but we respect a person's right to be a thoughtful critic on this forum.  No one has outright flamed his project and all comments have by and large have been thoughtful.  Negative or Positive we could care less about.  As long as it is thoughtful and conscientious we have little problem with it.  Frankly if all we did was just leave eachother dittos and :straightthumb:  how would anyone actually improve?  I would get the point if anyone had outright flamed this project, but no one has.  But if its not really your cup of tea then by all means find a safer shore.

Now with all that said I am going to make this last thing clear, the next person to post off topic on this thread concerning Nikki, the quality of responses, or anything at all not about his project the post will be deleted and the user warned.  Any further issues should be taken up via pm or the report button.  Thanks.

I looked through your main post once more. This time trying to put my impression of you asside and being objective.

First of all: I guess your right... your game is... different.
Maybe you already noticed by the way I am writing about it, that I don't like some parts of it.
Lets start with the developers point of view.
So you are planning to involve different battle systems (classical, tactical) into your game. This is by default a bad idea, since the player isn't be to fond of having to learn a new system in the middle of the game. And since you wanted to make the battles easy thats quite like shooting your own leg. Stick with one.

Your world is big. It has tons of NPC. And all the ladys are your playthings? Oh boy, be prepared for a hell load of work. You have to set up all the different events one by one. Depending on how difficult it is to "get" the NPCs this work will even get more annoying.
Second problem with this is, and I know that you won't get this one at once: Dialouge. I guess I'll take a new paragraph to explain this.

Sex as it comes by nature is very intimate. So I am looking at the screen while playing your game and a sex scene is happening. You know what I am getting at?
You will have to get me emotionally involved somehow. Sex scenes can be used to show a wide circle of emotions. They can be disturbing, make you feel sad, happy, confused...
So how do these feelings come to the player?
Sure one thing is the pictures. I get an overall feeling from that. But most importantly is the great weapon of every game creator who is telling a story: Dialouge.
Through dialouge before any particular scene ( must not be sex) I will know a character better later on. If I don't know a character I won't get to feel anything for them.
So any kind of dialouge is very important before something as emotional as a sex scene. Because honestly: Do you want me to go all "Hm, so know this dude is banging this chick I don't know. Why should I care?" or "Yeah, finally I got her to fall for me. Man am I glad."?
This will by the way be very hard with just shallow characters, you were stating in your first post.

Conclusion: This project will cost you a lot of work. As you are not serious about it (and I still wonder why you posted this) I don't know if you can pull it through the very end.
If you do... Hell, I would even play it to see what you made out of it and to be constructive a bit more.

Well, Im not totally sold on the idea of adding a tactical strategy game element to it just yet. Mainly because I cant figure out how to get those scripts to work. Only reason I thought of adding such a thing in the first place is because I found a HUGE, MASSIVE series of hentai pics which are from a Shining Force style hentai game, a very perverted one where a huge army of girls goes up against an evil army of monsters. And you can imagine what happens when the girls are defeated by certain monsters. I liked the look of the characters in that set, I just had to figure out some way to use them.

I honestly dont see that populating the world with many "plaything" girls will be so difficult. Setting up events is pretty easy IMO. Since I have those huge character pics that fill up half the screen when engaged in dialog, I dont have to make the sprites jump around and stuff to show the emotions of the girl. Those character pics add a ton of personality to the characters and make the job of coming up with storylines for each much easier.

I wouldnt be wasting my time working on this project if all it was about is looking at dirty pics...that would be no fun to work on. You will have to earn the privalage, at least with your party members. So I'll do my best to give them each unique personalities and back stories so it feels like a reward. As for the sexy villians, maybe it just sounds stupid and perverted to someone else, but I like the idea of every confrontation with a villian ending up with a..."forceful encounter".(thats why I chose those girls to be villians because all of the sex scenes of them, they look none too pleased with the situation)  Yes, most of the characters will be shallow cliches. Theres just too many of them to come up with totally unique stories for each. Theres plenty of cliched, yet likeable characters in movies, books and in games though. Theres nothing wrong with cliches if they are not completely stupid.

In response to your conclusion, I dont see how any of this will end up too much work for me. I never gave a approximate release date. I'll work on it in my spare time and have no reason to give up. Its a fun and easy project and eventually it will be done.

-story is important in hentai games (most hentai games have little to no gameplay), make an effort to put some character development for at least the main characters.

you find and fight an optional boss (doesn't have to be optional)...
and if you win:
  one of the female characters gets injured, you stay with her to comfort her, she falls in love with the guy, and then she'll thank you later in the game for your company.
if you loose:
  you get injured, and depending on your previous actions in the game, one or more of the girls comes and 'comforts' you.

or you can be a total ass to the player and instead of an h-scene, you can reward the player with some gold! hooray!

the only character artwork i recognize is of the monsters, i don't recognize any of the other girls.

that's my opinion about this project, having played a few good hentai games in the past... this one is just a 'slide show' to me.
(please don't take that as an insult, it's just an old title i gave to bad hentai games)
i know it's still in development, but based on what you said... you're not going to get very far.
like i said, i like hentai games for their story, character development and artwork. other people like it for the artwork alone, or any combination of the three.

Well, I promise to do all that I can to steer away from the interactive novel genre. I said before that I want to make an open ended, sandbox type experience. That means player choice and consequences for those choices, and NOT a linear story.

Most of the interactions with the party member characters will take place in the towns. When you enter a town, the party splits up and you can interact with each one on an individual basis. You might do something as simple as go on a date with them, or engage in some sort of funny adventure. Each girl will have an extra special scene that plays out when you visit their hometown or some other place important to them where you go MUCH deeper into their backstory.

Each girl will have a sort of meter that tracks how much they like you, based on your decisions during your adventure, and responses to their questions. When the meter reaches a certain level, you have access to ONE sex scene, I wont throw them at you all at once. You will have to increase her feelings towards you even more to unlock the next one and so on and so on until you unlock them all, which means her level of "like" for you has reached it's max and you can now persuade her to engage in some "group activities" with other girls so long as they are compatible and the other girl has also reached her "like" max.

Anyway I just wanted to say to keep in mind that with this kind of game diolouge will be very important as well as character development otherwise it will fall short. Because im pretty sure hentai games rely heavily on the text/diolouge if I'm not mistaken. But I'm actually suprised I haven't seen someone make this kind of game sooner though. I don't play hentai games but I wish you the best of luck because you have a looooooong project ahead of you even if you do have all the CG pictures together.  :thumb:

Oh is that against the rules? and yeah lulz is is what some of the post here are, not in an insulting way. But you should have said the same about your earlier post. xD Just messing. But seriously good luck with the project I think it can be pulled off if done right. Coding it will require some hard work.

Even though you have pictures of them and all, you still need to give them characteristics. The pictures won't do that for you. For example I have one character in one of my storys and my sister made a picture of him.
Since she asked me to describe him in detail beforehand it turned out really nice.
He looks just like a sweet, friendly but kind of helpless boy.
In contrast to his looks this guy is maybe the most intelligent, cunning bastard in the whole story. Everytime he interacts with somebody he has some motive, trying to corrupt people to do what he wants them to do, without them noticing.
On the other hand he has no sense for emotions other people could have, without him inducing them. So he is scared like shit of a girl that fell in love with him, because he doesn't understand what she wants from him.
Finally he is in a situation at the moment that he can't handle, since it came quite unexpected. But now many people are counting on him. Since he doesn't think that he is ready yet he gets depressed about it, but tries not to show it to others.

You see, looks and character are two totally different things and you should consider this, if you want people to like your characters.

Well, the pictures help me come up with personalities. And for the person playing, Id imagine that they make dialog seem more intresting rather than if it was just text. Hopefully the stories will turn out decent. Thats half the fun of making these games after all. Anyway, I appreciate the input and advice.

I'll probably release the modern setting game first, since its going to have a fairly small world compared to the other one. I've already built most of what I'll need although Im sure I will think of a few extra areas once I really start working on the storylines of each girl. Maybe I'll have a playable demo in a week or two.
 
Thanks for the sugestion, but I think I'll stick with my plan. Theres no chance in hell Id ever get any original artwork for this game. That would require a partner and most likely he would want money for the services. I'm POOR! Besides, I like working alone. Furthermore, Im not taking this game as seriously as the makers of "succubus quest" apparently did. Its just a fun little hobby project for me, thats all. Im not going to try too hard. I'll do my best to write up a decent story, build good maps and make the game fun but Im not going to bend over backward.

While we don't mind double posting so much here, 10 minutes after posting before really isn't necessary especially when your topic is already bumped to the top of the forum listings.

This is why I was rambling on nikki, it's 4 pages in, almost 100 replies and still I see just a shell of a game based around someone's art. I'm sorry for being a dick, but I hope you can understand where my thoughts come from.

Anyways, I wish you luck. I'm not all against hentai, it's just better in a show/comic/video/flash game....I've never really thought it would do much good as a game...but we'll see..

I see where your coming from, but this was really out of place to begin with, it doesn't matter if it's already screaming noobish, it has hentai.

anyways, original art of not isn't a big deal, just, get your story straight.

for one, story gets over looked becuase everyone can do it and it's not that special of a skill anymore, unless you find yourself a professional writer or someone with the creativity of sunrise. (minus the giant robots)

so set that on the top of your priorities, harmful or not, this IS your little perversion fantasy, so write up a story line weather it's completely nonsensical or a actual serious visual novel, GET THAT IN LINE.

once you have at least some characters worked out, try not to go over 5 characters, actually, make 5 characters a MAXIMUM, and then work around that, build back ground, gather the resources for those FIVE characters, back grounds, what kind of setting, etc etc.

I suggest you don't try to make rmxp maps.

completely forget about the map editor and just make it a visual novel.

one, it takes less stress off someone who can't use rmxp that well to begin with, and it makes your game looks prettier than it really is.

but before all that, GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT, then update your first post with it and delete all that pointless stuff.

hope you take this advice then, having a sim game with loads of pro CG and using basic or bad rmxp maps will fail, theres no way it WON't fail, I'll tell you that as a fact.

Honestly, I think I spelled out my plans for these games rather thoroughly. I am not interested in making a visual novel, I think my mapping skills are decent enough to get the job done, and Im not stumped on eventing. I even think I can come up with decent dialog too. (er...indecent is more like it lol) I'm not going to scale back my plans to just 5 characters, I like the idea of having tons of variety.

I know what I want to do and how to do it. All I need is time, things are progressing nicely ATM. So please, try not to be so pessimistic. Like I said a million times already, I am making this for fun, Im not trying to prove anything, Im not trying to make it perfect. If nobody else likes it, fine. I think some people might waste a few hours playing it and not regret the time spent as a total waste.
