I Catholic, but I don't realy don't follow it well, I don't go to church, I don't pray, I don't follow Lent. I personally believe more in science than religion.
I guess that's true. I just don't like it when they try to scare you into praying.Cassy":3vkbxmr5 said:Some people spend more time masturbating than that. So why would doing a spiritual activity be silly? People choose to take that many minutes out of their day because they want to.Guardian1239":3vkbxmr5 said:I like meditation, too. Meditation or anything that you want to do is good for helping calm the mind, but praying or going to church because you think you will go to Hell otherwise is just...horrible.
And Chimmy:
5 minutes of meditation
x 5 times a day
x 165 days a year
x 72 approximate years of life

It may not seem like much, but it does take away a lot of time eventually. Wasting 4,125 minutes a year doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
Sorry to question you like this, but it is a discussion, after all. A guided feeling is a psychological thing. Those prayers probably pointed you in the right direction and you felt proud that you made the right decision. The good thing about Catholicism is that it has a good set of rules. And being spited is coincidence and you looking for something bad to happen. It happens quite a lot. It's a part of our attempt to find the supernatural things we're looking for. Again, I'm sorry if I said anything that offended you. I'm just giving you my perspective.Xaixis":3vkbxmr5 said:I'm Catholic.
Why?
Well for many reasons really.
Ever since I was 5 I said a short prayer every night. It wasn't until I was 9sh that if I had trouble with something I would pray for God to help me with my problem. And then, believe it or not, the next day when that problem arose, I surpassed it... but every time I felt guided.
Then, around the age of 12, my prayers were less answered, although they still come every now and then. I personally think that the short period of time was God proving himself to me, telling me that he's real.
Recently though, I think he's becoming more real then ever. Recently, for about a year now, if I am to do something wrong, such as steal, or curse abusively, or some other things the church deems evil (take a guess) I will be spited within the next day... NO JOKE.
Here's a few examples.
About a week ago I did something wrong without any regret, I just flat out didn't care. Well the next morning I go on AIM and a good 10 of my friends questioned me why I sent them threatening/sexual messages. I did a scan on my computer and it turned out there was a key logger on my computer which is weird because this almost happened a few times and Norton caught it every time with ease.
A few days ago I did another wrong deed without regret. Within the hour my grandmother had a heart attack and has to go to the hospital. (She's fine now, her pacemaker went off)
About 2 weeks ago I did another wrong deed and ever since I've had a cough that won't go away.
I did a wrong deed the day before my ding-dong-ditch accident (check out the FAIL thread)
And these are just the tip of the ice-berg. I feel constantly watched by God, and can't seem to do anything without consequence. So yes, I believe in God, and feel as if he is both guiding and spiting me hehe
