Exploitation does not make a grownup game.

If anything gorefests are LESS grownup it's like poopjokes.

It takes a buttload more thought and effort to make a game both acceptable and fun for a wide audience than it does to just make everything brown and red.

And for the record, Mario/Nintendo games are not KID'S GAMES. That is ridiculous. Just because something is artisitically CUTE and not just dudes running around playing soldier (don't get me wrong, I like those games too sometimes), doesn't mean it's "kiddie".

If you don't like something, then say you don't like it. Don't sit there and act like you're "grownup" simply because you don't like fun platformers better than tactical war missions.

They are kid's games indeed... Sorry but that's the truth. I used to play nintendo games a lot but when I started playing shooting, hack n slash, bloody and gory games I never went back to nintendo because of the lack of games like this.

You need to replay some nintendo games then, pal. Mario/Pokemon etc games are usually alot more fun than splattering gore and gunshot randominity.

They also are alot better put together sometimes so its hard to even read your comment without chuckling

Well, let's see. I love gory games, with a lot of violence and all that. Yesterday I played Silent Hill, then I got back to E.V.O. (anybody knows about that game? kinda like the original SPORE on SNES). And you know what? I liked both of 'em. "Mature" games doesn't make you mature, and games targeted to childrens doesn't make you less mature.

Last week, my little 10 y.o. cousin played God Of War. One of his first reaction was, hey have you seen the girls with big boobs? I saw them! I saw boobies! hahaha! It's a game for mature audience, played by an immature person.

...

I didnt say gory and blood MADE the game I said that these were nice things to have on some of them. Black for instance... it has no blood but I still enjoy it. But games like mario and pokemon I can't stand them anymore, and ok you say they aren't kid's games but their rating says 10+ while other gory games are rated 18+ so Berrybliss I guess the game isn't less mature for having gore.

There is a big difference between a game's target audience, the audience that actually plays it, and the game's maturity.  Games with a rating of M are targeted at people over seventeen.  Does that mean a six year old won't play Gears of War?  No.  It just means that the six year old most likely won't fully understand anything.

Like wise, Gears isn't really that "mature" of a game.  For all intents and purposes, the only maturity in that game is that it actually makes you think about the proper use of cover in a technical sense.  Yes, the characters swear (which actually makes it seem less mature to me), but the story isn't really that deep.

Where as Mario games are targeted at ANYONE over the age of about five or so.  And while the story is usually not that deep, either, nor do they stick in jokes in poor taste (read: fart jokes and sexual innuendos).  This actually makes me think Mario is much more mature than Marcus, Dom, Baird, and Cole.

ratings dont determine the game?? hell i remember playing wild arms when it first launched and it was K-A (8+) and not only did they curse heavily (Shit, damn hell, etc) the game also talked about death, murder, sex and other crap. But hey it was a kids game, so I guess they might as well throw elmo and barney in and call it a day!

This just in: MATURITY and AGE are totally unrelated concepts!

Gorefests are not mature at all they are like pornography without plot except with blood instead of (as well as?) tittays? The average playerbase is 12 year old boys who take pride in doing things they shouldn't be doing. The developers KNOW THIS and they work to please only that demographic.

Surely a game that aspires to be fun for someone who is MUCH OLDER than 12 (as well as, yes, people who are younger) is the more mature concept.

Ratings don't mean much in terms of maturity. An 18+ rating is only really there to attract 12-15 year olds.

how old are you? because i'm 18 and haven't bought a game in about 8 months, i was into gaming in a big way aged 12-15 but i grew out of it, as did a lot of male gamers i know. having played something like Gears Of War at this age and with a muted interest in gaming i can see it's hilariously sloppy with its "maturity" (look at the hyperbolic MEN, hear them swear, watch those guts fly, this is AWESUM) but at that younger age i probably would've found it "cool"

then of course most "kiddy" games like Super Monkey Ball or something require a LOT more skill than most generic shooter titles

anyone who is actually 18 or over and buys the game thinking that splashing blood makes something inexplicably better than the next game is either very unintelligent or mentally immature

Holy shit I loved EVO! <3

@tyranius: I'm a grown woman with a husband and a house and a white-collar job, and I'll play Mario just as much as, if not MORE than, games like Silent Hill or Far Cry.
See, when you're a MATURE ADULT you stop having to worry about what's deemed MATURE and what's not. You do what makes you happy.

Like I said, it's cool if you don't like cute platformers or brightly-colored, rewarding environments. That's cool, you can like whatever you want to. But disparaging a game genre based on the ESRB rating on the back is RETARDED. (and immature!!!) :D

Ok, so I am Immature as you say (I guess I really am) so I'll say this : IN MY OPINION Nintendo's games are childish and crappy. I prefer the immaturity of blood flying all over the place and brains spines and teeth on the floor then to make Mario run and punch and get a liitle star and play super hero. In my opinion Wii are for families with little kids. But I play alone or with friends so we want games with men shooting the living brains out of everyone.
You can have fun with nintendo's games and that's all right but they're not mature to me and I don't care if the game is mature or not if it has a nice story setting and a little blood to go with it. If you have a Wii go play donkey kong or mario and leave me alone with my blood desire. I want blood... LOTS and I waaaaant to drink it!!!!!

Ok, I overreacted but anyways, I don't want to see Mario save the princess for the millionth time or yoshi help his little purple friends. I want to see gore.
So with that cleared up... bye.

Has anyone made a Mario style platformer where the main character rescues a princess in every stage and they immediately engage in post-turtle stomping coitus?

I've had RRoD happen to me once before. Same with the moving the console while it's running screws the disk (Halo 3 will never be the same....) I suspect that it is heat, but from the disk drive. That too can cause the console to stop reading the disk. Several times lately I've taken the disk out and only that, not the 360, was hot. Dunno if my disk drive is screwed (It's been scratching my THIRD Halo 3 disk without any movement) but it is a problem. Sending it over to Microsoft is the best idea, as they'll fix it no problem. Never heard of these Falcon or Jasper boards.
