X-BOX 360 I want to buy one but...

Hi, Over the last 2 weeks I have thought about wich console to buy. Wii was out of the question because the games are too childish for me (sure I used to play mario a lot but that's over now). So the struggle was between the PS3 and the X-BOX 360. As I'm poor, I can't afford a PS3 right now but I can afford a 360. That's one of the major reasons I want a 360... I don't like waiting and I want to play right now!!!!

Anyway, ok I decided to get a 360. Then while surfing the net I have discovered the so called hellish nightmare (or should I call it nightmarish hell?) Red Ring of Death. So at first I thought "whatever, just becuz it happened to them it doesn't mean it will happen to me". Ok, 2 days have passed and I surfed even further... At that time I got a little scared, lots of people claimed to have this problem. This was not enough to shake me though, so I surfed EVEN further the next day and I got all frightened up, I even found guys saying that they were on their tenth 360 due to the Ring of Death!!!! So I've looked up the net again to see if they solved this problem and I guess they didn't.

So basically I saw that there was this Zephyr board that had around 40% chance of happening the Ring of Death. So I thought... I'm not getting a 360. But then I saw that they made a new board called Falcon that reduced the chance of Ring of Death happening to 8%. Ok, at that time I thought "Ok, but a lot of people claimed having a Falcon board and still had this Ring problem".  So I was getting disappointed and cried. (Yea I cried... Ok, I didn't but I sure wanted to). So the next day a glimmer of hope came, I heard about the new Jasper board that would obliterate this Ring of Death bitch. So I want to ask, is this Jasper board out yet? If I buy this Jasper board will it REALLY kill the chances of getting this Ring of Death? And I want to hear from you guys who own a 360, have you encountered this Ring of Death with a Falcon or Jasper board?

And a few more questions. What is a 360 Arcade Go Play? Is it a 360 without a Hard Drive?
I want to buy the one with 20GB, how can I know if it has a Falcon or a Jasper board?

And one last thing, I heard this Ring of Death shit is connected to the GPU. So basically what does it do? Burns the GPU?

Answer my questions please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be waiting.

Bye

The first thing you should remember that if you get the Red Ring of Death and mail your XBox back to Microsoft (I think it would be a good idea to save your receipt and original packaging since I'm not sure how much they need in terms of proof of purchase,) they'll send you a new one free of charge. Might just be valid for the first time that it happens, I dunno, but hopefully this at least gets some stress off your shoulders or something.

(What's more important is to avoid moving your XBox while the disc is spinning, since this apparently damages the laser or the disc or something and does not warrant a no-questions-asked replacement.)

One of the main causes for the Red Ring of Death is the X-box getting too hot, and something on the inside causing the motherboard to warp.  A VERY SIMPLE FIX is to 1.) keep your X-box in a cool place, and 2.) buy a fan add on.

I've had my 360 for two years now, and it's still going strong.  No Death.

If you red ring, Microsoft will ALWAYS replace it. Unlimited amounts of times.
I believe I read a Kotaku article that talked about a guy who had to send in his Xbox in like 13 times (The ones he got kept red ringing)

I've had my 360 for almost a year and haven't had a single problem. I also don't tip over the system or leave it on for hours without playing anything, which is what causes the problem (kids misusing expensive electronics.)

Just don't be an idiot and you'll get a lot of fun out of your system.

ok but I can't send it to microsoft because I'm gonna import it. In my country is 10 times more expensive. And the support here doesnt accept 360s bought abroad. So basically I just buy a cooler add on. Can I find these on wal mart? Can someone give me a link?

EDIT: Tell me one of the most bad asses coolers to get. I dont want RR happening.

You don't want a cooler because those are high in water content. You want a fan, or just keep in a cool place or by a window.

i bought mine within the first month or so (worst ones to buy) and I have had the death before, i just simply sent it to Microsoft and I got it back within a couple weeks working perfectly fine. I still have the same xbox and nothing has happened since.

Ok, a fan... but what do you mean? a regular fan or a fan that stays within the 360. And could someone answer my questions about the boards?

And one more time, I can't send the 360 to microsoft because in my country they don't accept 360s bought abroad and it's half the price of the 360 just to send it to the U.S.

It's an add on that fits over the bottom vents of the 360.  Turn it on before you start playing, and leave it on for a little bit after.

it'll mangle the disc. my brother ruined his GTA4 like this.

the fan attachment doesn't do much, in my experience. i've had two 360'2 RRoD with the fan attachment. the 3rd one hasn't had any problems, and we haven't even used the fan.

Wii was out of the question because the games are too childish for me (sure I used to play mario a lot but that's over now).

i'm going to totally ignore this because it's just so fucking ignorant. THIS GAME ISN'T A HALO/GARS OF WAR CLONE LIKE 90% OF GAMES TODAY THEREFORE ITS FOR CHILDREN

but as for the red ring of death don't worry about it unless you're one of those guys who will like keep your xbox under a bunch of shit and then play the game for like 12 hours sraight. if you keep it in an open area and play for like three or four hours max i don't think there's a problem with it overheating.

i've had mine for a couple of weeks now and i've had no prob lems at all. think about it this way: if you DON'T get the red ring of death, would you bother posting online to say "yup no red ring here". that's why it seems like it's so common, because people don't talk about it unless it happens. otherwise they don't say anything at all.

Its free...
It was for me.

it was? Ok I'll check on this later. I think that the fan attachment doesn't fully solve the problem because if it did the problem wouldn't be so common. I plan on playing 3 to 4 hours a day with it.

So anyone can explain me about the boards?

The RRoD has become less and less likely. The newer ones are very unlikely to have them unless you play the most graphically intensive games for extremely long bouts of time without rest. I really wouldn't worry a huge amount if you're buying one nowadays.

And for the record, Mario/Nintendo games are not KID'S GAMES. That is ridiculous. Just because something is artisitically CUTE and not just dudes running around playing soldier (don't get me wrong, I like those games too sometimes), doesn't mean it's "kiddie".

If you don't like something, then say you don't like it. Don't sit there and act like you're "grownup" simply because you don't like fun platformers better than tactical war missions.

actually i think the red ring itself is a reflex of sorts that occurs whenever the console shuts down of an unknown accord, a few months ago there was a power surge and our power was out for about 3 seconds. My Xbox showed the Red Ring of Death  :dead: but when I tried to turn it back on, it worked fine, and still does.

There is no need to worry about the red ring at all. As vene said it is rare nowadays, and only reason it seems common is because people are still talking about the old xboxs. I had my first one for 8 months before I ever had a problem with it, and that was a month-one launch xbox.

If you are still concerned about it, dont leave it on when you are not playing. Take time to have a break (or sleep) every 6 hours or so. Honestly people who play games to the point where the machine can no longer take it is idiotic.

Just take care of it and your xbox will be fine and last you many years.

@CanadaATW
no its a red ring of death when it NO LONGER works. That means after 100 attempts still shows the death ring.

That's why. Or your motherboard just chose a really cool moment to start melting.

They are kid's games indeed... Sorry but that's the truth. I used to play nintendo games a lot but when I started playing shooting, hack n slash, bloody and gory games I never went back to nintendo because of the lack of games like this.
