This is a rather interesting question.  When you want to (or are required to) write something, do you prefer writing it by hand or typing it on a computer?  If you like to write, is it in print or cursive?  Also, do you prefer to use a pencil or a pen?

I personally prefer writing on paper with a pen.  You can put emotion into your writing.  You can hasten when you get to an important part and it makes you feel more involved.  You can violently swipe through letters when you're writing something angry.  You can't really put emotion into typing unless you wanted to break your keyboard.  I like cursive because it flows better, and I prefer a pen because it's easier to read and more permanent.  Also, I hate when you get pencils where the point breaks off every time you sharpen it.  The noise of a pencil scratching on paper makes me twitch, too, like nails on a chalkboard.

I'm not sure how much room there is for discussion, but I want to see what everyone says.

Writing is lame. Typing is where it's at.
Seriously though, I don't really see a point in handwriting other to be less formal (and honestly I don't really care about that). Not to mention that typing eliminates the problem of bad handwriting.

I like writing better than typing for many reasons. One being that it prevents having to look at a computer screen all the time, but also like Guardian mentioned you can put emotion into writing. (plus you can't doodle on the side with typing XD)

Many reasons I like typing over writing: I can type a lot before getting tired; mistakes are easy to go back on; writing gets my hand tired; you need to type on forums. XD

I have horrible penmanship.
I write like I'm dying of seizures and am using my off hand :x, or at least that's what a teacher I had once said.  I don't know why, I can draw alright but I can't write for shit.

I'm lazy and I get to caught up in things.  I've torn through the paper, I've left massive imprints, and I've cramped my hand very easily.  The mannerism of my writing changes, small little letters that are evenly lying on the lines of my ruled pad, to larger rounder letters floating between the rules.

Typing I'm quicker, easier - I have spell check :straightthumb: I can delete, save, alter.  I can go back 3 paragraphs and add something in without having to rewrite anything, erase, or put a note "See back of page paragraph here" and crap like that.

I mean I like writing.  It's relaxing.  It doesn't hurt my eyes like a monitor can at times after long hours of typing/writing.  It won't hurt my caral tunnel (or whatever the hell it's called and however the hell it's spelled).

But typing is by far the easier.

Plus it saves all my lead in my pencils, all my ink in the pens, and all my white on the paper for drawings, sketches, and other sorts of art.

Learn to type I typed the whole message above while watching this movie Sick Nurses and laughing at the horrible special effects of the ghost.

I haven't looked at the screen or the keyboard.  I have sense I made a mistake in keyboard, so I pressed backspace twice.  I hope I caught it correctly.

I've actually managed to pull a muscle in my wrist from writing too fast.  It hurts for the rest of the day and usually a little the next day.  I just have to know when to slow down.

Another reason I don't like typing is what you like about it.  You can edit anything.  I like being able to see what I was thinking, see the edits I made, and then determine what I can do with it if I still don't like it.  Also, you can sometimes lose information way too easily when typing.  I tried doing a history assignment on the computer, and the program locked up.  I hated those assignments and I was ready to put my fist through the screen.  Luckily, it had a backup from a minute ago, but I still had to go back and redo a lot.

Well, that's a good question. I always have a notebook and pen on me, so I do a lot of writing there. Also, I can carry a notebook around with me wherever I go, so that's a plus.
I prefer typing for most important things, simply because it's neater. Emotion, I can put in typing, although it may be a little difficult at times.
I tend to write more in shorthand and type things out later and elaborate on them, so I guess you'd say I'm a bit ambi-graphous.
I totally just made that up, but it sounds about right.

writing out papers is a waste of time since you'll have to just type them up anyway

Paper is more convenient for brainstorming, so when we have a choice, I prefer to use paper and a pen.

you won't get a choice as you move up to higher levels of education. everything must be typed. its more professional. if you hand in something that's handwritten in a college class, they will laugh at you and give you an F without reading it

also it's not more convenient for brainstorming. it is entirely a personal matter but there's really no advantage to writing on paper.

How is it not more convenient for brainstorming?  You have areas all around the page to test thing out and see how they look.  You can put down random ideas and come back to them later, when you're editing it.  You can't really do that by typing without creating another file or adding parentheses which you could (and I would) forget.

What the fuck are you talking about? Yes you can.

here look

oh wow

THIS PARAGRAPH ABOUT PENISES COME BACK TO IT LATER

okay cool now

suck my dick

See? it's NOT HARD. I don't get what the fuck you are saying. you clearly just have no concept of the power of word processing programs and you're still in the whole handwriting middle school phase. You'll grow out of that.

You can put down random ideas and come back to them later, when you're editing it.

Um, you are talking about writing or typing here? Becayuse it sounds like you're making a case for typing, since that's exactly what you do. When you're writing with pen on paper you CAN NOT go back and just edit shit, but on a computer you can.

i'm not saying that typing is better than handwriting i'm saying it's a matter of personal preference entirely and all of your reasons are bullshit because there's not a single thing you can do by handwriting that you can't do with typing (other than stupid shit like maybe dotting your i's with hearts or whatever)

Ah, I see what you're saying.  I don't use any truly powerful word processing programs, so I don't really know their capabilities, but I'll take your word for it. :thumb:

Nonetheless, I prefer handwriting, and I probably always will.  It's just a personal choice.  It feels more natural for me.  I also like the way my cursive looks.

i use wordpad it's plenty

I prefer typing because I type WAY faster than I write, I can do it for much longer without my hand cramping up, other people can actually read it, etc. When I write, I prefer cursive because it's faster than print and I'm too lazy to pick up my hand, and I always write in pen whenever possible because I'm a leftie and otherwise I get graphite all over the side of my hand. :x

i HATE writing by hand. it's slow, my hand cramps up. whenever I do write longhand, I avoid cursive like the dickens. hate writing cursive. i hate how the s's and r's look.

typing > writing.

and you CAN put lots of emotion in your typing, but usually that just winds down to caps or typos, heh

I actually don't mind the graphite much.  The only point it bugs me is when I'm drawing because I can't keep my paper nice and white.

Anyways, I prefer typing, and I don't even do it properly.  I do an "Advanced Hunt and Peck" where I keep my eyes on the keyboard and very rarely look at the screen.  I don't even keep my hands where they're supposed to be.

When I do write, however, I always write in pencil because I make too many mistakes, and I always use manuscript.  I can't stand writing in cursive though I can read it.  Not even my signature is in cursive, but it looks like it could be.  I haven't written in the cursive style since I learned it in elementary school.  Hell I can't even remember how to write half the capitalized characters, though I would be able to recognize them if I saw them.
