Worst Playable Characters

Not really a character but has anyone noticed how useless the select button is?
I mainly use it when preforming a soft reset by holding down all the bottons. The only games I can think of that actually made a use for it was in FF8 to preform a boost while summoning. And the gameboy Zelda titles which opened the map.
Other then that it doesn't really have a function. It was probably more useful back when controllers didn't have shoulder buttons.

I don't think it's as useless as the D-Pad for the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube controllers.

Edward got really good in the DS version. Of course he isn't as strong as Cecil.. but in the DS version he could save the party from being destoyed (compared to orginal where he could only die ..)

Shush, you, Quina is the best. Also, Quina is the only character in video game history to speak in Hawaiian Creole English, albeit unflavored.

Quina can learn Limit Glove really early in the game which does 9999 damage at 1hp. Really easy to do. Extremely useful.

I seriously could not agree more. Given the series itself was on downhill anyway at the time, but SA would have been decent enough if it wasn't for that utter trash. His mechanics were the most cumbersome pile of crap I've ever seen. What kind of crazy bastard thinks that people who pay for a fast paced action game want to spend every 5 levels or so fishing for a sodding frog.

Also D-pad on n64 - did you never play mischief makers? That game was sick but it forced you to use the d pad.

And select is a utility button. What do you expect?

Skye, Lost in Blue.

She wasn't unbearable character-wise. I liked her when I was playing as Keith, the game did a good job of making me worry about her when I was off exploring. Making her PLAYABLE was one of the worst decisions ever. She is the only character I know of that has a command to WASTE TIME WHILE SHE WAITS FOR A MAN TO COME HOME. This command sees far more use than it ever should. She might have been a little more bearable if she'd been introduced later in the series when cooking got a minigame that didn't suck but having a character who can't physically leave the first area playable in a game where exploring is the big draw is a pretty terrible decision no matter how fun her cooking minigames are.

Actually it works both ways. You play as Chris, Sheva is like... mentally impaired and vice-versa.
I mean seriously. I'm sitting here with a zombie attempting to bite my face off and she takes her sweet time to waltz over to me, maybe doing a little dance on the way to "help" me, only for me to escape without her help.

Meru from Legend of Dragoon.
I tried so hard to level her...
But quite frankly her personality began to piss me off.
"Super-guide Meru and her posse!"

Meru was only good if you took the time to farm a lot, and equipped her with the halving armors,(Legend Casque,Armor of Legend,Phantom Shield etc.) and could tune out her voice in the cut scenes. Perky Step was also my favourite of all the Master Additions ^^.

Honestly, Shana wins the worst playable character in my book. It takes ages to level her Dragoon level, her damage/defence/health are all minimum, and she lacks any real offense. I realize she was meant to be the healer of the group,but come on.. If I'm fighting a Virage in a gravity distorted battlefield, I'd like her to be able to hit over thirty.Her Damsel in distress personality drove my to a shaking rage throughout the entire game, and I was very upset she made it out alive.

Edit: Oh, I s'pose it helps if I tell everybody Shana is from Legend Of Dragoon Aswell ^^"

lol final fantasy 5 that game was awful, any character from that game instantly wins, but they all suck evenly so I guess its a fair tie.

that or captain falcon (brawl)/dan (street fighter), both AWFUL, but they are fun to play as.
