We have all done it at one point or another. Sometimes you just need to get away from the hum-drum life you live. What I want to know is what do you use to escape and why?
When I was a little kid, I was constantly being teased about my less than hygenic habits or my overly large glasses and my best friend had just moved away. I can remember constantly coming home crying.
My mother was big on reading, si I started to find solace in books. I started out with Dr. Suess and when I was older, I started reading K.A.Applegate and Brian Jaques(sp?). In books I found amazing new worlds and imagined I was the hero and people loved me. As I grew older, I read Tolkien, Asimov, and Piers Anthony.
I quickly fell deeply in love with the science-fiction and fantasy genres. Even now, I will rarely read anything else willingly. More recently, I have read Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series and Robert Jordan's epic, Wheel of Time.
Books have become my life. I never did stop imagining myself as the hero and that inspired me to become a fanfic writer. Eventualy, I hope to be a successful scifi/fantasy novelist, but it probably won't happen for a long time since I still have to write my books, first.
