Though granted it was like 5 miles, and my bike was broken and stuck in 3rd gear, it would've been a hell of a lot easier if it weren't 98 degrees with 100% humidity @_@. Sucked hugely, not doing that again until it cools down/dehumidifies!!!!
Seriously? 5 miles is a "long bike ride"? That's only 8 km. I easily go 50km on the hilly-as-fuck roads I have around here. And before you say "oh hey the road is easy", on my old bike I once went 70km on a bumpy as balls trail. I was tired at the end, but I took it like a man.
Last weekend I went 130 km (80 miles) carrying probably 30lb's of luggage (everything necessary to make most repairs, plus food, plus 3 litres of water, plus a tent and a blanket) to my parents house and said hello. I broke it up into two days, leaving Friday night and doing 70km, sleeping the night in a tent, and then going 60km to arrive the next morning. It was loads of fun and I intend to go on another adventure probably next weekend. This is how I break the monotony. By quitting being a sissy and going on adventures.
Also, the solution to the heat is to pedal faster. It's Men's Air Conditioning.
