What do you do to break the routine

My life's a total rut.

Wake up, work, go home, make dinner, eat, shower, sleep. On weekends: wake up, putz around, run errands/clean house, putz around, make dinner, shower, sleep. Rinse and repeat, every week. It's downright depressing!

I'm broke as hell and can't afford to pay for any types of new equipment or structured lessons, and it's too hot in Florida right now to do any type of strenuous outdoor activity, and I'm too far from the beach, so honestly I'm tapped on ideas @_@

What do you do to add some spice to your life and break up the general monotony of the everyday mundane?

Hmmm... To spice things up I usually will go out with friends... Like to the mall or something and just hang out... We usually end up trying stupid things on and messing with people at the mall... My favorite thing ever is we went into an Abercrombie and Fitch store and redressed the manikins. The employs stared at us like we were crazy... We came back a half hour later and the store put them back to how they we before so we redressed them again and again a half hour later the were back to normal. We did this several times and at like the 7th time my friend decided we should reposition them a little. We came back and the clothes were changed but not their positioning... You can also ask stores in the food court for take out menus and then if you get one sit there and look at it for like 15 minutes them just walk away... If they don't give you one act very disappointed then suggest the get some because it's great for business. Also ask if they'll deliver it to you while you're in the store... There's loads more we do too... Go the opposite direction of escalators, especially if they're crowded. Dueling with wrapping paper tubes is always fun, buy a store out of wrapping paper and 'duel to the death'. Ask other customers (especially if they look busy) to duel to the death. Play Marco Polo. The list goes on. Me and my friends have had the best time doing these things. One last thing you can do, go to the kiosks where people are selling stuff (like the Sham-Wow! or whatever) and listen to their whole sales pitch. Once they start making offers, try to haggle with them, make ridiculous offers (like the whole stock for all of the pocket lint you have). Eventually get to the point where you start making more serious offers and once it seems like you're going to buy something from him or her, just walk away, without saying anything, just walk away. Get as far as you can from him without laughing or he'll know you were screwing with him. Come back an hour later and say you had to leave for a very important appointment, then repeat the whole process. See how many times you can do this before he gives up on talking to you.

On a final note... Most of this stuff causes trouble and people to hate you, only go with 3 or 4 friends (I went with me, my gf, my best friend and his gf last week and we had a blast, ended up watching a movie as well) and there is always new people at the mall so don't be afraid to do this a few days in a row... Only warning is security guards... We made friends with the security guard before doing all this. While it'd probably be more fun to run from the security guards in the mall, it'd be a ton of trouble to get caught...

Hope that helps, Have fun

Sorry but it's kind of really, really messed up to fuck with peoples' jobs and shit in their workplace. They're just trying to make an honest buck, man. When I worked in retail and teenagers would make messes and shit, I'd have to clean it up, and that was just horrible. Why would you want to make their miserable lives more miserable :( It's not like they make a ton of money or anything.

You could find an organization whose cause you agree with and spend some time volunteering with them. It doesn't cost any money (other than possible tranpsortation) and you feel good about yourself helping the community.

Well I live in Florida and I fine biking really nice (even though its strenuous)
If you head out to one of the parks its really nice and has lots of shade
It drops a good 30 degrees and you can't feel the humidity as much
And you don't need a mountain bike because the easy trails are really flat ;0

Just two things: 1) you need bug spray
2) It costs around $4 to get into the park

Biking, .org, building a website (I mean like coding and modding and shit) - but if that's your day job then that wont be as enjoyable, IRC, IRC games, flash games (old ones are the best :cute: ), warhammer, books, films, biking

lol @ WoW breaking up monotony :0~

I'm just not that resilient! I went out on a long bike ride on a trail a few weeks ago and vomited for hours from heat exhaustion. (And yes I was keeping hydrated.) Though granted it was like 5 miles, and my bike was broken and stuck in 3rd gear, it would've been a hell of a lot easier if it weren't 98 degrees with 100% humidity @_@. Sucked hugely, not doing that again until it cools down/dehumidifies!!!! :(

lol, when I go to the Alafia State River Park I usually go 5-7 miles
and take a couple runs on Gatorback :P

but in all seriousness a nice cool alternative is to rent a boat and go boating,
I do it all the time; but then again I have a sailboat that I own...

Potassium Nitrate and sugar... Nuff said
or if smoke bombs aren't your thing you could always invent things, i've invented tons of things... most of which are probably illegal and looked down upon by society... but it's still fun
DISCLAIMER: I have not made anything illegal, just made blueprints for it... I'm also not encouraging anything illegal

start with something small like cooking something you never tried cooking before, of instead of watching T.V. read the newspaper or a book. These things dont have to be big as even the smallest of changes dont go unnoticed. :)

Ooh, write a book

I keep meaning to / starting to but then I forget, but it can be good ~ and then if its any good you can ditch your office work and become an author ~ publishing kiddie books or whatnot ~

It's already been said but start a writing project. It doesn't necessarily have to be a novel or anything, you could try writing a short stories, or a series of short stories.

Whenever I'm in a rut I try to write something. Granted, it's sometimes difficult because I often find I'm lacking creativity during these times, but if you can do a bit of brainstorming and at least write something, I find it's helpful and keeps your mind busy. I just like having something to think about, y'know? And sometimes my brain just won't turn off. So it's a win-win for me.

If I don't feel like writing I'll start an art project. If I'm feeling risky I might try a new medium and break my norm by going out and drawing/painting something I've never drawn/painted before. I mean, you're more of an artist than me, so you've probably done much more than I have, but if there's something you've never made before, or you want to try and tackle something like sculpting, then at least try it out.

My summer has consisted of me waking up at either noon or six A.M, messing around on the computer for a couple hours, getting ticked when I'm actually asked to do something, going out on rare occasions, and watching general YouTube garbage or Death Note. I'm actually very into it, despite what I first expected.

During school I'm usually going to school, coming home, getting on the computer for a while, not doing my homework :thumb: and then going to bed. On Saturdays I go out somewhere or just stay home and do whatever. Sunday mornings are spent at church most times, and after that it's pretty unpredictable.

I really don't "mix it up" any because my life isn't strictly routine. In short I'm a lazy flipping layabout who does whatever he wants.

I don't think this is applicable to you non-churchgoers but...

serve in the church.

Its a good timekiller for me, seriously.

For you other guys, play RuneScape.
