What do you consider to be basic, common sense knowledge?

i used to work at staples glitch, where do you work? office depot? max?

i could never understand why there would be hundreds of people lined up at 5am outside a STAPLES on the day after thanksgiving.

STAPLES is weird you get days like that here. Like you go on a Sunday to get some shits and there's huge queues for no reason. Quiet every other day.

Also hi @ there being a thanksgiving thread and this not being it >.>

I work at OfficeMax. And yeah, Black Friday is still pretty bad. Especially since the one I work at is basically 10-15 miles from any other office supply store, despite the heavy amounts of residential and commercial zoning in the area. Which means we get a good amount of business. Oh, and how did your store tend to do during the back to school season?

Yeah, I'm guessing its because Staples puts out their ad in the Sunday paper. I have myself set as not being available Sunday, because it's so full of idiots trying to get the best deal on the new ad, and then returning the product an hour later. I have to deal with the same thing on days like Black Friday, but it isn't as bad, because I only do that a few times of year.

oh yeah that was the other awful time, back to school. august-september always made me want to vomit. i worked for staples for 3 years and each year was worse than the last :/
the worst part of all though would be end of september through end of november. they'd hire a bunch of people over the summer for B2S and Black Friday, and then between them they'd have too many people, and I'd only get like 5-10 hours a week.

then after BF all the college kids would quit and return to school so it would get better. and december-february was sweet; very little business but a decent amount of hours. i worked in the copy center and did the store's accounting and very few people get copies/bus. cards/etc during that time, and there's a good amount of cash flow, keeping me in the cash office longer (which i liked; it was away from customers).

Oh, that reminds me, more common sense:

Do not, EVER, threaten the manager of a chain store that you will never shop there again, if you don't get what you want. Unless you're in control of some kind of large contract, all that will do is annoy the manager and prove to them they they don't actually need to help you. Just remember, by law, they don't have to do anything for you. They could just as easily ask you to leave, and ask security to escort you out if you refuse. (By contract, I mean something like what Yum brands, the owner of chain fast food places like Taco Bell (I think that's one of them) has with OfficeMax Impress, to print their stuff)

I barely get any hours anyway, since I'm the highest payed, non-key-carrying associate in the store. (Except for key carriers, we have a horrible turnover rate, and I've been here far longer than most, leading to a higher pay scale)

i had transferred over from cali and the pay over there was way higher than it is in FL, so yeah i was more highly-payed at the store in tampa. the managers in FL hated me but i was the best store accountant and i knew everything about every section and could do anything they could. and do it better; and people liked me more than them (they were lazy dicks). in the slow periods they were always excited to give me less hours it seemed, but then would randomly call me and say "D: we need you".

i remember when i put in my two-weeks notice, they all smiled a little but then stressed out over my replacement. they tried to give all my responsibilities to the lead guy in the computer department but he fucked everything up. a friend of mine who still worked there told me about their meltdowns post-my-quitting. it was pretty satisfying
