Just play a game or something everyonce in a while (especially if it pertains to the type of game your making). It both inspires and motivates :thumb:

... No it does not.

I've tried it, doesn't work whatsoever, infact, it demotivates me because the game I'm playing is most definitely better than the game I'd be making...

don't think of it that way man, it's waay too easy to get dissuaded.

there's also a good chance that the game you're playing had a full-scale development team, as opposed to one-to-three people.

Actually if I put all of my personas together I'm pretty sure we make a team of about 12,894... and are still unable to finish a game!

For real though, a lot of people'll say "just take a break!" I wouldn't suggest that, it makes it easier to give up. When you power through your creative slump and eventually you notice that you've actually made something pretty cool, it does wonders for your ego.

Making a "cutscene". (I don't like to call anything in a 2D RPG where camera angles are fixed a cutscene because that's not how I think of them, but I suppose what I'm making well and truly qualifies as a cutscene by normal definitions.) It's going the way I want it to, pretty much. I'm up against my arch-nemisis "balancing" after that!

Also working out how big the game will be and such. I had an idea for an awesome mid point and an awesome ending, but if I scale it back and move those two together then I'll have one hell of an ending!
 
Developing battle conditionals so that if you have an empty party slot, nothing will ever try to affect that slot, player loss, player win, etc.
