fair point on the not listening to the track, but when the first 1/4 of a track is just blast beating I tend to turn it off, I admit I should have been a little more open minded but usualy songs tend to have a consistent sound (aka the first 1/4 sounds like black metal so the rest of the track in theory should be similar)
however the point of not playing an instrument was not meant to be an insult of any sort, merely the implication that you failed to notice some of the more complex aspects of music. I personally have played guitar for 14 years, piano for 8 years, drums for 7 years and have a national diploma in music production. I am in no way dick waving as this isn't necessarily a good thing, knowing as much as I do about music makes me very anal when it comes to the technical and also more subtle aspects of music, it also makes me get very defensive (as you pointed out).
I think the best thing here however is to agree to disagree, but next time someone posts about a band that they are inspired by, try to avoid ripping on them as it can sometimes offend.
