What are you listening to?

Sounds like deafheaven, with a more passionate vocalist, and an actual orchestra and female choir (yes yes) and some lyrics drawing heavy inspiration from romance.

I needed like a bitching dictionary to understand the lyrics, in every damn song.

High Hopes

Awesome Bro

Just watched "The Wall", the movie based of the same album by Pink Floyd. Vintage Pink Floyd, for sure. The vocal and guitar work is superb.

Jason

Awesome Bro

Enter Shikari released their new song, "Rat Race" the other day, and I've just listened to it now, it's pretty decent:

Dat beard of Rou's... I want to stroke it.

Dem lyrics are nasty!

'I'll shape the earth, as a glutton forming regalement
Filling up the skies with the apparitions escaped the sands
Culling the weak through the minds that begot the catharsis
I will manipulate the creation of the vale'

yup, mostly listening to RSF, Scar Symmetry, Periphery and Born Of Osiris at the moment all really good 7 string tech metal.

Ooooh c'mon BoO(h) is pretty much at the bottom of the barrel as far as prog is concerned (Calling BoO prog is a joke in itself).

Now this is what I can effectively can call prog, a natural blend of multiple genres, something which is not heard a lot, something original.

Something that has brodowns every 3 seconds, awful synths overpowering everything and pseudo-technical riffing isn't prog in my humbly opinion (yes, this was aimed at BoO :box: )

What? constantly blast-beating is the ultimate naughty no no as far as most tech metal drummers are concerned. Now don't get me wrong I'm not going to start a massive digging session at your tastes in music but all I got there was generic black metal.

The main distinction in tech metal would have to be the complex strum/picking patterns and technical drum beats sometimes even utilizing several changing time signatures (Djent) of which BoO have gotten spot on (notice I said tech metal, not prog)

personally with BoO, I am not the biggest fan of the vocals as I feel there should be some singing in there, but apart from that they are probably one of the most talented bands I've heard in years.

to compare technical riffage and general talent to blast-beats and tremolo picking is an insult to hard working musicians worldwide (I'm guessing you don't play an instrument)

Next time you decide to rip on someone for their tastes in music, try playing it first (on any instrument) then maybe you'll be a bit more considerate.

First and foremost, before you start breaking down my argument at least have the decency to at least listen and read what I said. You obviously haven't listened past the first minute of the song I posted, the song I posted lasts 5 minutes, and only the first 55 seconds (and last 20 seconds or so) of that was black metal.

So if 80% of a song isn't even black metal, or even metal for that matter! How can it be cataloged as "generic" black metal? (Which it also isn't, but i'm not going to stray to far from the path). Its also pretty laughable to call a band that has gotten great international response on their diversity "generic", while defending a carbon copy stereotype deathcore band who has done nothing to innovate the genre.

Its also ludicrous calling BoO talented, since the only talented member was Jason and he left. And bar his occasional pseudo-technical riffs, everything was pure chugging. Their latest album was proof of how he was the only worthy musician of the bunch...

I was indeed wrong with the assumption of prog, I misread that part. But that doesn't take away that my point got severely misunderstood.

tl:dr you're point is wrong, simply because you didn't even took the effort to listen to the song and made an opinion based on 20% of a song. I was also hardly ripping someone's taste apart and my comment was hardly worth it for you to go super defensive and start saying "you obviously don't play an instrument". I don't need to play an instrument to recognize a capable artist.
