Vista Beta

Keep in mind that Vista was made for high end PCs, hence the DirectX10 (for "almost PS3" graphics), and how future Vista specific graphic cards will have their own bit of ram to help run games without having to turn off the desktop.

Also, quite a useful thing actually, they've invented a peice of technology which will be implimented in future laptops (obviously ones which come with Vista as standard), which allows you to browse and view files via a small moniter at the back of the laptop without having to startup your laptop (this would namely be used to view calendars, notes and other important business info).

Hehe; Your post gave me an idea for mircosoft. Why dont they make it so games can turn off the desktop (explorer.exe) completely until you choose to exit\close the game :). In which explorer would open back up!

Good going Sailor T ^_^.

But the turning off of the desktop can cause errors, both technically and graphically. Some people have already experienced this due to using low end graphic cards and little amount of RAM (all ram being used for the game), and the process of turning on and off the desktop can cause bugs to the display (ranging from incorrect size to incorrect colours...one possible bug is that it get's set to default). Also, not all games are full screen (Facade, Second Life and RPG Maker games beign good examples), so it wouldn't look very nice to play such a game on a buggy desktop, and Vista is about being user friendly, both technically and aesthetically. That is why future graphic cards will have their own extra bit of RAM in them, to help keep the desktop active whilst the games use the RAM from the PC.

Also, slightly off topic, don't forget the whole "you can easily plug in flash drives to boost it's RAM via USB" thingie...that's quite a good thing (as I suggested in a different topic, I assume some modding companies will take advantage of this and make special RAM boxes for this feature...it's inevitable).

EDIT: I've also recently had to use a Mac OS for my two day trial at College, and I envy their pretty interface. I currently love Vista because their interface is comparable (you hafta admit it's very pretty for an OS).
