Videogame MIDI Remix Competition (Week ONE)

Reason, FL Studio, Cubase; they're all worth it. Problem with FL is the embarrassing lack of good instruments; I had to pick up a copy of good ol' Garritan Personal Orchestra before I was satisfied. (Although in retrospect, Fluid General Midi r.3 is quite professional and it's free).

EDIT:
@Velocir_X
Bah. B.S. I was writing music at 13. Don't let anyone tell you you can't write music. You just need practice; we all do. That's why we're here. ^^

nope, i mean, you can import a loop and put it on a channel and use it if you want but its not loop based, i see how the name fruity loops could make one assume its loop based like acid or something.

the writing of the music uses piano notes on sideways grid thing, you set the measure/beat length and stuff and can change the timing, default is 4/4 w/ 16ths on the grid, it has like bold lines for your measure count like 1,2,3,4 and thinner lines for the 16ths. i like to set it to like half a measure so i can make fills and stops without having to start the next part a half measure in and stuff like that.

but acid uses samples of like loops and shit, FL uses VST's, if you look at my screeny, by the pink and purple boxes, those are instruments, and next to them all the little squares are beats, you can just click on one and it does a mid octave C of the instrument at that beat(which is the proper note to use to have a sample or drum hit be the right pitch in FL), and if you look at the pink one again, next to it, that spot with the light greenish lines, is the piano roll i have zommed up for an example. so that piano roll there is just that instrument with the pink box. and within the piano roll i have a thrashy rhythm section based off that DK song(if you notic the high notes in the 5ths i have there(not the D+A's ..the lowest ones) youll see c, e, g, a, g the 5 notes from the donkey king stage 1 music)

sorry block of text crits you for 9999

sum it up.

pink instrument in that pattern = what you see in piano roll.

that whole instrument section = that green square the line pints to in the playlist.

each of those squares in the playlist are a different piece of the song that i wrote note by note, drum hit by drum hit. theres a lot more behind the piano roll and if you scroll right in the playlist

i have eiderol orchestral, it seems to be pretty good, i havent played with any other orchestra plugins, i mostly use 8bit stuff, magical8bit, peach, toad, i use drums from FL but i tweak the fuck out of them and over time have kind of got a kit together i like, i also do 8bit drums. i have a few refx plugins i use from time to time, slayer, plasticz, vanguard, also a free demo plugin i like is plugsound's free version. i also use some soundfonts. theres a few good links from this site to some soundfont sites

Go find "Fluid R3 GM" It's a free and amazing soundfont (especially if you're used to MIDI instruments, as it's a re-make of the MIDI set). It may be big, but it's the best synth instrument set I've come across in 4 years.

that soundfont you mentioned is almost 100% the same instruments i have in an old roland pack with a few differences.

enemies abound is very megaman x

Thanks ^^

And I know which SF you're talking about. I think I still have it, but This one beats it in many fonts including the guitars and percussion features (There are over a dozen drum-kits).

so how many sounds show up for you mine ends at gunshots, i think 125 sounds in this SF, might be my soundfont plugin, maybe i need to look for a different one, cause i see no drumkits

It's your plugin then. Mine shows about 25 drum kits in a separate section at the end. Plus FluidR3 GM comes with FluidR3 GS, which is all the soundeffects. I'm using Fruity SoundFont Player. Do you use FL Studio?

I'm not going to tell you the one I use, just because I don't want it to become rampant, but SGM-180 is better than Fluid.
