I'm sure this question has been asked, and I'm sorry to be a bother, but isn't using the graphics shipped with RMXP for a commercial game totally illegal?

No.  The game is made with RMXP, so it's fine.  It states in Enterbrain's EULA that the RTP may be used commercially so long as it's used in the RMXP engine.

Design Notes - 10th March 2008 - Taken from the forums (hence the background is black)

Sorry for the lack of updates, it's been a while since I've posted here, as Iced pointed out.

Well, here's the progress I've done since last posting.

First of all, Vengeance: Inquisition and Vengeance: The Battle for Amik Pass, are becoming one longer campaign.

Basically, a lot of the history of the world, and new areas, were revealed while making BfAP, that would make an ideal prologue to Inquisition. So, BfAP (around 10-15 chapters) is now at the start of Inquisition (around 30 chapters), so as to make one long first campaign of 40-45 chapters. Might even be closer to 50 (plus quests and bounty) with the new world expansions.

This means the game is going to be much, much longer.

Secondly, new areas...

I've been working on the Ice Caverns, which are traversed partially in BfAP. This area is currently a 100x100 (3200x3200px) map, but will be expanded with the now second campaign, Winterborn. This area features many new ice-oriented foes, including dragons...

Thirdly, dragons. There are now several high-level enemies in the game, all of the dragons. The Earth Dragon is extremely difficult, but you aren't expected to fight them if you don't want to, the idea is to find a way of running past them. The Ice Dragon is slightly weaker, and is in a hidden area of the Ice Caverns (not part of the Plot, just an easter-egg for high level players). Then there's the Lesser Earth Dragon - still a tough fight, but nowhere near as high levelled as the other dragons. This spawns in a seperate area of the Ice Caverns, and is non-plot-essential, so you only have to fight it if you want to.

Next is the world expansion. Well, the world at the moment isn't very... big.

Aramidia has already been massively updated with BfAP. Avalon will get two new maps, with much more being added on a later campaign that will focus on Avalon. Finally, Green Forest is getting several huge maps added to it, to make it more of a vast... forest.

Right. On to random image of the week.

These are the enemies currently in the game. The images are rather small as they are just what is shown in the editor (I keep my enemies in a "database" map for easy access to them).

Enemies with no image either haven't had an image made yet, or are just very light or too big to show there.

Key:

Red: Exremely difficult
Green: Tough, but ok
Yellow: Generic level enemy

Wyatt this game is really looking amazing, and I can't wait to play it, I'll first try the free for about a week or so, and then i'll definately buy the better version.

Any ideas on release date ?
 
No idea so far, sorry. I don't like to guess to far into the future (as the past two times I've set release dates I haven't been able to keep to them  :dead:).

But "in the future" sounds quite likely, unless the Large Hadron Collider turns out to be a time machine, in which case it could be in the past (if in the past means the time when it's turned on). So the past of the future, or the future of the future, are the most likely.  :smile:

Nope.

Since it's made in RMXP, and since the EULA states it's fine, it's fine. I'm not taking any chances with this game, Everyone whose resources I have used I have asked permission for for example, if they say no, then they are removed.
 
Some news: Someone seems interested in making the server program! Plus, I worked out a fix for the server itself.

Basically, something to do with re-installing Linux with the network cable already plugged in.

Anyway, some thoughts on timetabling (again).

Times here are from the completion of the server program... i.e. Week 0. The server has not been made yet.

Week 0 - Server program is completed
Week 1 - Server capacity test - see below
Week 5 - Game Release / Arc 1 of Inquisition released
Week 6 - New quest
Week 7 - New quest
Week 8 - New quest
Week 9 - Arc 2 of Inquisition released
Week 10 - New quest
Week 11 - New quest
Week 12 - New quest
Week 13 - New quest
Week 14 - Arc 3 of Inquisition released (Inquisition now fully out)
Week 15 - New quest
Week 16 - Possible launch of the Temple Knights (full gamers)
Week 17 - Temple Knights quest
Week 18 - Free quest
Week 19 - Temple Knights quest
Week 20 - Free quest

Just estimates, and mostly me just rambling. But that's what you can expect, hopefully, from the game in the near future.

Server capacity test:

I'm gonna put the server online with a test project, and basically get as many people to login as possible. This is so I can prove the myths true or false about how many players an RMXP online game can handle.
 
Server Capacity Test

When the server is made, I will be running a test, to aid both me and the RMXP community, to basically see how many players my server can support, or something like that. Anyway, basically I'll be setting up the server online, with a simplified version of Vengeance.

This version will feature one dungeon, with several areas including a few mini-games, locations to fight enemies and level up, magic trainers, and locations to train merchant skills.

The following merchant skills will be there:

-Fishing
Pretty obvious - fish for... fish, and then cook them to make food that you can either use as healing items, or sell to other players or general stores for profit.

-Mining
Again, rather obvious - mine rocks, and turn them into items with the aid of blacksmiths.

-Literature
They always say words have power, will now they do. Practice writing scrolls and enchanting them to give them magical abilities. Basically, a way of making magic while training a merchant skill.

-"Digging"
I need a better name for this. Archaeology maybe? Well, you get a spade, and er... dig in certain locations, in order to find rare artifacts that you can then sell to a museum. Or something like that.

Maybe more I've forgot.
 
I got a question umm, if you use your computer as a server does that mean you cannot use your computer as in surf the net?

EDIT: Also umm do we have to pay monthly to be a temple knight and is it possible to pay US dollars? This is gonna go on the web correct? not downloaded right?
 
I'm not using my computer as a server, I bought and built a server myself especially for this. But if you were to use a personal computer as a server, it'd be very slow for pretty much anything else as all resources would be put towards the server program.

Oh and Temple Knights is a one off fee, and... can probably pay by $, it'll be through Paypall most likely.

You would have to download the game, but it's still online. Much like games such as Guild Wars.

I used to play GW, so how much is it gonna cost?
 
I'm thinking at the moment maybe £10? (That's the same cost of Aveyond, another commercial RMXP game - around $20). But I'm not sure.

Is this fee a flat fee or is it monthly?
Because I'm think about possibly buying it...
I'm assuming its a flat fee considering it would cost 20 usds a month, but just to be sure  :thumb:

Wow Wyatt, You've amazed me even more with this, the server capacity test will be like the game which god made !

I really, really can't wait for this, and I hope you make alot of money from it, as I know it's costed you alot to make, and it would be horrible to see you make less than you spent on it.
 
Hey, the way I see it, spending £500+ on a game that might make some return, is better than spending £500+ on fags or beer that'll get back nothing.

By the way, if anyone really wants to, here's a userbar they can put in their sig. Again only if they wanted to.

I'm not that good at userbars, but it'll do. Oh and yeah, the "engeance" text is a different font - the other is too hard to read at that size.



If I do end up making some income from this game, most likely it'll be split between maintaining the game and buying new resources and scripts, and University funds.
 
Literature

Literature is a merchant skill that also aids you combat-wise.

This skill introduces a lot of new items. The main ones are scrolls and books.

Scroll: Stores one spell casting.
Book: Stores up to five spell castings.

You can make scrolls using parchment with string (to hold it together). You make books on the other hand, by using leather, with 5 parchment pages, and string.

Books and Scrolls as they are can only hold low level spells. This is done by using them with an Enchantment Sphere, which are found across the world in various places.

For higher level spells, you need Ornate Scrolls or Books.

To make an Ornate Scroll: Use a candle to get wax, use this wax with red dye, use the red wax with a scroll.

To make an Ornate Book: Use gold with an anvil and make gold trimmings. Use these with a book.

You need a quill when enchanting a book or scroll, to jot down the spell itself. A quill can be made by using a knife with a feather.



Types of scroll/book:

Elemental: Stores a spell of an element, such as fire, water, etc.
Arcane: Contains a spell of high magical power.
Quickening: Does as it says, makes you... quicker, or adds a beneficial status effect, or simply heals.
Effect: Gives an enemy a negative status effect.
Teleportation: Takes you to another location when used (for example, Teleportation Scroll (Aldeva) takes you to... Aldeva.)



When you use the spell contained within the scroll or book, you are left with an empty scroll / book, which can be enchanted again (so no need to make more if you have used all yours up).


This opens trade and money making opportunities:

Crafters could make scrolls or books and sell to budding enchanters.
Enchanters could sell enchanted scrolls or books to would-be mages.
