Hey the Legend of Heroes had a good story. And Popolicrios i hear takes a while to load up a battle
...you've never played popo?? WTF R U WAITING FOR??? If you like Legend of Heroes then there's no possible way you can't like PoPo.

The FF series versus the Dragon Quest series is a blowout (FF leadin) 'nuff said.
Tell that to Dragon Quest's cult phenemona in Japan. While Final Fantasy has sold more games (which is understandable because there's like... 8 more FF games than DQ games), Dragon Quest is vastly more popular than Final Fantasy. In fact, the Japanese Diet (their government) specially requested that Enix not release DQ on a workday because children would skip school and adults would call in sick to work to play it.

Seriously Aran, you are a fanboy but I won't bother starting a flamewar because this topic is actually about a good game :D

Anyways, I have a question about this game...by side scrolling, do you mean in a Tales of Phantasia style, or something different?
The game takes place on a 2D plane similar to Mario. You move like this in towns and in dungeons. On the world map you fly around in a full 3D view (yes, you fly; you're a God in this game).

dungeon hopping

In dungeons, you run left and right and throw crystals to solve puzzles and build platforms to reach higher areas. There are puzzles you have to solve and platforms you have to jump around but it's nothing overtly difficult. When you touch an enemy, you get into a fight. It's pretty simple but it's very deep and satisfying and rarely gets stale.

Awesome Bro

i was going to ask my dad to pick up this game for me for my Bday(Its a day after its relase) But I thought to myself... hmm will it have lots of replay but no mulitplayer. So instead im geting my dad to fully Pre order Nascar 07 because I love Nascar games and Nascar. The reason i dont own Popo is that i dont have 54.99 + tax to get it. And if i did there are other games i would rather get. Like the New Legend Of heroes game. Marcus about that DQ more popular then FF. Thats only true in Japan. When you go to the average person in north america and ask whats better, they will say FF cause they have heard of it.

Actually, that's like asking some random kid on the street what's better, Gamecube or PS2. They'll say they both suck and love XBOX. Apply that to this debate, and you'll get Halo or something else similar. Most American kids hate no actiony games. Don't get me wrong, Halo was a good game, but yeah...kinda overdid it on the gore. :-/ ANYWAYS...

Remember, what's popular in Japan designates if it comes out here your not. Any gamer should know that :P

It sold rather well here. You're just guessing things that are convienient for your viewpoint. Not everyone in America loves Halo, what a silly thing to say.

That's not what I'm saying. Ok...let's use another example...say.....Katamari. In Japan, it was interesting, but they said meh and avoided it. However, when it came here, everyone loved it for it being the most interesting thing out there. Japan noticed this and gave it a go. They loved it. This works in Vice versa as well. Basically, it takes time, and DQ has it's place on the market. The thing about FF is because it's the first RPG America has really taken to heart, mainly of of FF7. Ask anyone who's been around a while, they'll say that FF7 was a technological turning point in video games. Which it was.

Edit: Oh, didn't see your post ryan. As I said before, it has it's hold on the a good portion of the market, but I think Halo out sold any DQ game, unless I'm mistaken with my numbers...

Im convinced the ff7 audience is composed of 500 internet people with 5 million accounts.
You're right about the turning point thing, though. It ruined the standard way people approached gaming and was the first big step toward it becoming the hollywood charade it is now. I dont mind things looking better, Im a visual person. I mind yawning my way through mindlessly easy games that mask their lack of innovation with blue dialogue and flashy things and omg blood? BLOOD WOW!! Its like the modern gaming population has to constantly be reminded what they're allowed to see now that they're adults, its pathetic. "adult content" doesnt equal that shit and games arent shows, they're games but that's not the cool thing to like.

Halo itself is not a bad game dude...it's just the negative hype from the fanboys it produces. KH...meh, it produces a mixed crowd...

On-Topic:I get the overworld and the dungeon crawling map, but what do you do in the battle system? I'm kinda confused.

To tell you the truth, I still can't figure out the battle system and it stands as one of the most complex things I've come across. Granted, it's incredibly easy to use but it'll take you hours to fully MASTER it. Essentially, it mixes turn based with timed button presses and combo attacks. You can summon other gods to assist you in battle and you assign their abilities to the X,O,square, triangle buttons and assign attacks. When you commence an attack, all characters attack at once and the damage you do can be complimented by a perfect timing of moves which can lead to combos and finishers.

If you time an attack perfectly or use a special move, you play a little mini-game where you press the buttons together or in a specific order to pull off a mega attack or something. You can also use artifacts to summon other beings and spells to deal damage. Enemies, however, aren't pushovers and some battles can really drag on but there are a set number of enemies in a dungeon so dungeons don't end up a bore hackfest.

When I rented the game a few years ago I didn't have the manual so I had to figure out everything on my own. I assume it won't be so difficult this time with the manual in my hands.

Its an average shooter. Anyone who's played a decent PC shooter, however, then played Halo would justifiably think it sucks because, comparitively, it totally does.

Yeah, Halo's an okay game for a console FPS(still not even close to golden eye. It's one of the few console FPS games that I really enjoyed), and I have a good time playing with a few friends(since I don't have an Xbox, I only really get to play it with friends), but afterwords, I just load up axis(or insert FPS/TPS you play on your PC) and remember that you're better of playing your shooters on a PC.

Fafnir, you're off-topic, man. Its about Valkyrie Profile not Halo.

@Marcus: For someone who says they don't really understand it, you explained it quite nicely.

I understand the fundamentals, but I don't understand the deeper aspects. There's lots of hidden factors that you can learn and exploit and these seperate someone who simply knows to play the game from someone who can completely whip its ass.

Square Enix are banned from releasing Dragon Quest games in Japan on school days due to dire truency percentages. Thats how well the DQ series sells over there.

And to the person that said "Did you say Star Ocean 3 is bad? Come on thats like the best Game Square made since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance!" ... /wrists. Aside from a seemingly endless level of content, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance takes a back seat to pulling my brain out through my nose.

And as far as Kingdom Hearts goes.. seriously. Take out the FF references, the Disney references, and replace them with new characters and ideas.. and its probably the most boring piece of shit this side of tuesday. Even with those slight perks and memorable characters, its still holds a mediocre level of gameplay and an inconsistant and bubbly storyline reminiscent of Barbie's Supermodel.
