I did have a look over those earlier, however I actually thought that some of the 'futuristic' stuff was pretty retro. The consoles looked like something you'd see in an 80s military drama or something :D When I picture futuristic I don't think we'll be using many mechanical interfaces like knobs, buttons and levers, display screens or speakers. Our modern technology is already starting to outpace that stuff. I also don't think we'll adopt the stark utilitarian style of the 80s permanently and seriously doubt everything is going to be clean, blank and shiny. So traditional future stuff isn't really doing it for me. I liked some of the stuff in Minority Report if you saw it, but even that is fairly near future. It's hard to even imagine what we might have in another two or three hundred years if we continue at this breakneck pace; genetic engineering, nano and quantum technology are likely to supplant mechanical and electrical engineering entirely, and our stuff is as likely going to be manufactured by clouds of nanos or assembled organically as it is by the hands of men or machines.
Transmetropolitan, if you've heard of it, has some cool ideas. It's a comic book series, and I'm not really into comics, but I flipped through a couple issues and really dug it.
I guess the reason far future isn't really my bag is that it's so unknowable that anything you can possibly predict is likely to be old hat or proved impossible, impractical or stupid halfway between here and and the time period you predict it in. At least we can get some kind of a grip on what might happen in the next 20-30 years, and we'll be alive to find out if we're right to boot :D
Campy space sci-fi is totally different of course, it's more like Science Fantasy really. But I also am not really into that for the reason that I find the idea that there are tons of humanoid alien races (that look just like us except for some funny thing on their heads) running around the universe just waiting to trade tea and debate politics with us or something pretty silly. The only space sci-fi that I've really liked lately are Firefly and Cowboy Bebop, both of which leave aliens out of the picture.
