riverscape EP

recorded between december 2006 and july 2007.
mixed in july 2007.

all instrumentation, production, and most drum programming (excluding the basic loops in "Riverscape") by me.
monologues on "Open" and "Terminat" courtesy of Joshua Evensen.
numbers station recording on "Cycle 72" from The Conet Project.

Riverscape is pretty much my first foray into electronica. Prior to my decision to make it I knew absolutely NOTHING about electronic music -- I didn't even listen to it, aside from occasional lame trance or like Dol Ammad. I started listening to Boards of Canada a lot about halfway into the project, and a lot of Portishead around the time I made the title track (which was one of the last tracks I made). I started the project on December 23rd, 2006 (I believe) with "Cycle 72" and finished on July 11th or 12th, 2007 with "Knickpoint".

can you hear them? the streets cry out in prayer.

This is, roughly, a split EP with myself. In an effort to get in a mood to write things for my upcoming split with a friend of mine I decided to mess around and write in a style I had never done before, hoping that it would inspire me or give me ideas as to what to do with I, Mountain. I created CAMPBELL MELLIS DOUGLAS - a dark ambient/soft noise project - and as luck would have it it did inspire me to write for I, Mountain. I decided to bundle the results together as a split EP with myself. All of this was thrown together in about a week in December.

Tel, you already know I love them. Cycle72 is still my favourite that voice sample gives me the creeps.

I mountain > Ella (Although name wise, Ella was ace)

By the way, where is Ella?

(I just referred that to Ella throughout, that was the right name wasn't it?)

Ella Umbrella I believe in full.
Yeah, I'm already stealing two or three parts of two or three songs on that one to.  Hell, between you and your other alter ego, I've got half a soundtrack going.

Ella Umbrella and the Rainy Day Clouds. i'd post that but i really don't think .org as a whole would... appreciate? it - it's not really EASY TO DIGEST or whatever.

also thanks :3

Right, I'm basing this just off of the myspace tunes, rather than the as-yet undownloaded EPs. Cycle 63 is a little repetitive, insofar that I expect it to break out into something bigger, although still in a refined way (my trip hop knowledge doesn't extend beyond DJ Shadow and Portishead so I'm not going to give much in the way of comparison). I also find the synth a little...grating.
Cycle 72 and Riverscape are pretty good though. And yes, the sampling on 72 is odd.

Oh by the way Teloch I stumbled across your last fm a couple of weeks ago.

We were very low.

@justice: how do you know it was mine?

also holloway you'll notice it also states i'm like 30 years old and live in grenada. prior to that i was a 13-year-old girl living in timor-leste. i change it every like two months as ALIEN ABDUCTION COUNTERMEASURES

Ever thought of doing a nice EP to match the title Ella Umbrella? I wasn't expecting blabla-acoustic-chords tracks but something a bit more, erm, relaxed/ trippy.

amusingly i am working on ELLA UMBRELLA 2 right now (it is slightly more organized but still whacky)

ella umbrella 3 will be mad chill probably (she's fighting satan in a battle of logic and they're both in comfortable armchairs)

GAHHH! Teloch, I'm in love with you now. These songs are GREAT. You wouldn't mind if I borrow a few, with credit of course? Great job, hope you come out with more. (Riverscape is a 15/10!)

It had your old avatar. And BoC was one of the artists we had in common. I, Mountain is the same sort of electronica that BoC is. Plus Minkoff was in your friends list.

I took that to be conclusive haha.
