Tududu~

you're better than i remember you being :damn:

depape this takes a really fucking long time to go anywhere and while it's got a cute melody i'm not sure it's enough to really HOLD IT for as long as you want it to. it keeps feeling like it's going to BREAK INTO SOMETHING and it never does and it's not really interesting enough to justify the length. add some SIDECHAIN KICK and dub sirens or some shit i don't know.

progrenerererrreew/e this unfolds much better than depape and even though it never really goes anywhere it still changes a lot more often so it stays engaging. i dig this.

smet i think what you need overall is stronger melody. like at :45 i was totally expecting some crazy arp to kick in and start fucking everybody up but it didn't and i was a little disappointed. i kind of get that this stuff is probably supposed to be more rhythm-oriented but STANDARD 4/4 is really hard to do anything good in even with filtered wub errywhere. it's better than depape and it's not BAD it's just not very MEMORABLE i don't know maybe it's not supposed to be :diss:

im not gonna touch the collab tracks because im not gonna touch the collab tracks

addition i'm digging this a bun--okay why is the voice entirely in the left channel and why aren't you doing anything interesting with it goddamnit son don't have vocals in electronic music if you're not DOING SOMETHING with them. this was a neat song i enjoyed it

wubverse MONO SEVENTH(?) PADS YES. they make every song better. i'm not liking this melodic progression it feels kind of generic. i am LOVING THE PADS though. i don't know this whole thing should be major key or something. i want PENTATONIC DUBSTEP. i like the wub. the beat isn't very good.

piano x is nice i think you're better at electronic stuff. make some chill instrumental hiphop or some shit.

for you PIZZA CATS. this gives a really nice atmosphere. i can totally envision this in an adventure game. i want to criticize the string dynamics later in the song though, especially the random HIGH notes that just PLAY and then stop. it feels too much like a lazy MIDI conversion with a shitty soundfont or something :eek:hdear: and doesn't do the rest of the song justice.

bloss i don't know what a bloss is but it's a GREAT WORD. that's a nice clarinet AWW JEAH THERE WE GO. this is tight. the kick is a BIT TOO HIGH-PITCHED and sounds weird. the filtering at like 2:36 hurts my ears bump volume down a bit and/or EQ when you do shit like that.

mock robster liking this a lot all the gated stuff is neato and the percussion is minimal but really nice so far. oh shit this is a fantastic buildup WHAT'S COMIN WHAT'S COMIN GETTIN READYYYYY AAAAAAND it's nothing why is it nothing. unfilter those drums son what is wrong with you.

gonna stop there since that's A YEAR'S WORTH OF SONGS or something (also because i'm lazy). i think overall you should write more stuff that involves PIANO, like piano with minimal glitchy percussion (kind of like this but less minimal piano and maybe also some other stuff) because you're better at piano than you are at dance and the world has enough dance musicians and not enough (original) pianists. i think ALSO you should do some COMPLEX DRUM PROGRAMMING EXPERIMENTS because your beats aren't as good as they should be.

:time:

hehehe, thanks for the critique, nice to get some from time to time, and you have some really fucken legit points there.
also you made me laugh quite a few times
you are right about the whole drum thing and melody thing, i was thinking of that myself too, which is why i recently decided to not release stuff i am not 100% confident about.

i have some more experimental stuff still in places, and once i get around to composing something for some visual projects i'll get into some more soundscapes and easy on the ears stuff. but when i have to do school shit i just want to create tracks i can rock out to.

anyway, much thanks for the feedback, now where's your stuff to tear apart?

A set of tracks this time, almost some sort of a mini-album. These are mostly old tracks, and some experimental short ones. Give it a try!

wooo~ i wonder who ever listens to these (at least leave a message!) (even if you didn't like it)

here's a new track, kind of inspired by Gui Boratto.
although it's a bit more electro-ish than his things.

Tomas - Three (Original Mix)

haha, well thanks for at least giving it a try.
I often experiment with softer music too, but that doesn't sway my peers like this does..
and great reactions are always good to get!
(Besides, i like this too. Maybe if i grow older and wiser it'll pass. I'll just enjoy it for now.)

Hey Tomas, those tunes you sent me are really cool! I really like them. I'm not a music person and don't really have any useful feedback to offer, but you should get a job doing this or something. I'm keeping them in my Winamp library. :thumb:

Hey, thanks!

Yeah if i could I'd experiment with music all day, buy all kinds of instruments, make recordings...
But alas, I am a student with a side-project that is a business as graphic designer, so the music is really my lowest priority (although not at some occassions, like when i'm procrastinating, but it should be anyway)

It's all part of this plan I have for myself. I want to be in advertisement/commercial business, so I'm mastering product design, graphic design, and audio design, and a little bit of marketing and business management. I'm doing a recent job so far and it still seems like a good choice. I'm curious to see how it turns out in the future.

(also on a sidenote i just enrolled for a design contest together with a friend, so thrilled)

Hahaha, well that's just great!
How old is she?

On a sidenote, I'm really interested in what people hear when they listen to music. Why do they listen to music, what do they want out of it? I'll probably do some research on that subject in the future, it really intrigues me. People can listen to the same music in such a different way.

For example, you said that track was ""thump thump" music", but is that because of the ever-present kick? That's only one sound in the whole mix. Would you like it if I took that out? Or if I made it less obvious? I think people that are not into electronic music would still disapprove, because the music is made to get people moving, and is based on that umph umph that's through the whole track.

So many tastes, I think it'll be hard to make a song/track that EVERYONE likes.

However, brew, what do you think about this kind of music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES2-1HJiHDE ?
It's also heavy on the electronic stuff, but well mixed with 'real' instruments.

She's 24. and big into the 'techno' scene.

I used "Thump thump" as a generic term for tecno/electronica/dance. My disdain is mostly for the "dance remix" where they take an otherwise 'good' song & just add the thump thump. If we walk up to a bar, and from outside all I can hear is a constant 120bpm thump, I know i'm gonna hate it. :)
I keep earplugs in my wallet for those occasions when my wife gets a jones for dancing. Or she goes with her girlfriends, and I hang out at the brewery & listen to old blues. :)

"Three", to me seems to be missing something (with or without the thump). it's very well mixed, but a bit repetitive & drawn out. Perhaps more of a melody, some vocals, or better yet... video.

I do like "Sycamore" a bit more. Vocals, and real instruments both make a difference. no "Thump thump" but still a nice heavy beat. The video also adds to the experience, providing a visual reference to relate the music to. Still not a track I would listen to again.
I can imagine either song as a soundtrack for a commercial / movie...

What people hear? pretty subjective. Being a musician, I pick everything apart, and listen to all the individual bits. It's a broad generalization, but it seems to me non-musicians tend to listen to a piece as a whole. Which, I think, is why you can get away with "faking" a song in a performance. It doesn't have to match the original exactly, as long as you hit the right chords, and throw in the obvious 'signature' licks, the audience relates & hears the song they're familiar with.

Why do people listen to music? even more subjective. I listen mostly to learn. If I'm not picking apart the instrumentation or the arrangement, I'm picking out harmonies. Or scouting for songs I'd like to learn & add to my repertoire. Some listen for simple enjoyment, or to dance, some listen to escape, and I'm sure motives change depending on the situation. whether listening at a bar/club, or a concert, at home or in the car. You could probably spend a lifetime trying to fully answer that question.

On a happy note... everything I've listened to that you've done is mixed and arranged well. Your music is surely evolving. Have fun with it.

, but you should get a job doing this

Be Well

I tried to experiment a bit by not using a standard 4x4 beat. I kind of borrowed it though, and got huge 'inspiration' from this track for my lead melody and sound, the end result's pretty different though.

[flash=1000,81]https://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F36931937[/flash]

The song starts out pretty mellow and dark, and goes on getting a bit more dynamic. Around the middle of the track (you can see it in the waveform) it progresses into a more dance-like tune, with raw synths, for a short while. Pretty intense.

Oh, and it's downloadable.
