Whether or not you or any other mass of people believe it to be boring (many people hate it), it is globally accepted as the most popular MMO, with record breaking number of subscriptions and sales. Even the expansion pack outsold most other MMOs.

That's true and it saddens me ;-;. I wish I could read a review and not see 'action packed battling' written all over it though, because it's not. I don't see how I'm wrong about that one, but I dunno. I'm not the biggest fan of morrowind and oblivion either, so whatever.

The action packed battling doesn't come from levelling, it comes from other things.

PvP for one. Five-Man dungeons (not raids) where you get to kite mobs, interact with the environment, etc. and there are lots of other situations where I would consider it 'Action-Packed'. Leveling, questing, farming, etc. I agree with you are all boring.

Blame Arcanum's death on Sierra. They killed F.E.A.R., System Shock, Septerra Core, AND No One Lives Forever. I swear, after the death of Point 'n Click adventures they instantly turned into the worst publisher ever.

I dunno. I really liked the systems for fallout. I admit the atmosphere and all that jazz are the most important (and I feel bethesda will probably screw that up as well) aspect, but I really did like the character creation thing, the perks, all that stuff. You kind of have to if you like fallout tactics, since that was like all it had going for it.

Bethesda is the master of atmosphere; that much I'm not worried about. I too enjoyed the systems (playing a character with 10 strength and 1 intelligence is pretty much the greatest RPG moment ever) but for the most part, if you weren't a powerhouse, a sharpshooter, or a slick talker you weren't going to beat the game without a lot of luck or quick-loading.

A lot of PC RPGs focus too much on number crunching which is why I really liked Arcanum. There were few moments where you truly had to FIGHT and even then the mandatory battles weren't so difficult that a character who wasn't adept at fighting couldn't get passed.

oh god you just reminded me of having that epic conversation with Torr in fallout 2. That is almost my favorite thing ever.

Also yes Arcanum did make me happy. It also had the most overpowered, easy to make melee weapon ever, where you could make yourself a flaming axe within like 3 hours of starting the game, and it was damn near the greatest weapon ever.

I always went straight towards making an elephant rifle which almost always resulted in virgil being blown in half by my missed shots. I always started over when that happened.

"What's that thing sticking out of your head?"

"Oh this? Well.. It's a tree. I've named it Joe, and talk to it when I'm lonely."

"Really?"

"No, not really. His name is John."

"We and I need to get out of here!"

"Did you just refer to yourself in the fourth person?"

Here are some really good ones I don't think anyone has mentioned yet:

Arena: Elder Scrolls I
Daggerfall: Elder Scrolls II
Stonekeep
Return to Krondor
Star Wars Galaxies (Yes, I am one of those people that actually like the game)

Let's see if I can remember them all....(damn, I feel old!)

YS book 1&2
Phantasy Star 2 (for old times)
All of the "Shining" games from the old Genesis up to Saturn (except Wisdom)
FF6
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (Maniax)
Chrono Trigger
The Rhapsody of Zephyr

...I know I've missed some and I'll probably think of them hours from now(oh, well).

Skies of Arcadia doesn't get the respect it deserves. The ABSOLUTE only bad thing about this game is the corny voice-overs, which only happen with every five lines or so. Everything else is beautiful, and there are some extremely emotional moments. And I never get tired of the battle system, either.

Oh, I wish I had a Gamecube so I could play Skies of Arcadia Legends....
