To all GH: World Tour and/or Frets on Fire players.

I've had GH 2 on my PS2, GH 3 for PC (cause PS2 wouldn't go online so couldn't download songs...but thanks to Neversoft as we all know I was completely cheated out of that luxury) and Frets on Fire, Alariand Mod. Ever since beating (nearly...I just CANNOT pass The Devil Went Down to Georgia on Expert, playing the song I can do but surviving the double note attacks is just insane) and have been playing Frets on Fire with a library of about 1,000 songs, enjoying every minute of it, but of course never getting the full experience of actual animation in the background and just sufficing with a random slideshow. But I don't really care, as long as I get to play the songs.

That is until I got my 360, and after finally getting some good use out of my HDTV for once, I'm leaning towards getting GH: World Tour. I'm hesitating however, because just how much do I really need to? I am able to download literally every song that the two guitar game series make at a particular website, for use in Frets on Fire...of course minus the graphics. (And yet this somehow stays legal, the actual FoF program got an indie game development award.) That's really the only difference. But making your own character, making/downloading custom songs, online play, and having all this on my big huge TV sounds really intriguing to me. (I had found ONE game online in GH 3 PC since launch.) And I do miss the crowd ambience, and my little Midori with her kick ass katana guitar.

On a side note, is the new guitar worth it? (I have no intentions to buy the drums or mic ATM) I have the red guitar that came with GH 2 for PS2, and the white guitar that came with GH 3 for PC (which is actually the same guitar that came with GH 2 for XBOX) but what I don't like in either guitar is that there are small bumps in between the fret buttons which make sliding between them a pain. Now don't get me wrong, I'm pretty good at hyperons and pulloffs and I actively play on Expert (expect for the crazy shit on Frets on Fire like Canon Rock 2) but sometimes I feel my fingers pressing those bumps as well as the button when doing HO/PO's and it's a little uncomftable at times. Yes, I know those bumps are actually guitar strings and are what you SHOULD be pressing down on on a real guitar, but this isn't a real guitar, so why are they even there in the first place? Then I went to friends house and tried the Rock Band guitar..surprise...no bumps! It was like a piano or synthesizer. The only thing blocking my fingers in between fret buttons was another fret button, not some stupid piece of plastic jutting out between the buttons that don't serve any purpose. Now I've never actually held this new World Tour guitar in my hands, but judging from the pics of the guitar that I see, I DO see lines...but are they bumps or just lines? Also, how does the new slider bar fare?

Ok, enough about my bump rants, is GH: Rock Band AND the guitar worth it?

Awesome Bro

no guitar hero world tour sucks! Rock Band 2 is better. Its DLC selctions is a lot bigger and has more songs. Plus the guitar is alot better...

You know, I SERIOUSLY was consdiering editing my post to say "no posts justsaying "GH sucks, RB is better." Looks like I should of, because that answer doesn't exactly help me. I know RB2 has more songs, but "more" doesn't always exactly mean better. (My Fret's on Fire song folders have about 1,000 songs but I mostly only find myself playing the acutal GH and RB music) I generally like GH's selections better. (That's not to say I don't like all of Rock Band's songs) It's also the customization in GH I'm after, and the possibility of having FREE music downloads (abliet maybe a bit more sucky) with the music maker, which might make up for it's lack of DLC. Plus, I don't like how RB differentiates regular notes and HO/PO notes. Even on a big screen it's hard to tell. HO/PO notes are SLIGHTLY smaller and SLIGHTLY brighter thin little lines as opposed to GH's fat circular notes, and they're HO/PO's have an obvious glow to them.

Also, I understand GH has an extra "beginner" difficulty. Does this change expert at all making it like SUPER expert, or is it just an extra mode...easier than "easy?"

Beginner is just wrong in GH World Tour. (From now on just GH)
First time you see it you go \|O_o|/
It does not mean extra difficult expert, just that something much easier than easy is implemented.

I personally prefer the drums in GH over RB 2 since there are also high hats. The quality seems imo roughly the same. Much better than the drums in RB1 (There might be second generation drums for RB1, I dunno)
I find the preferred guitar to be more a matter of what you are used to than one guitar being significantly better than the other.
The guitars in GH and RB2 are different. Having played RB2 a lot at a friend I originally preferred that guitar over the guitar in GH, but after playing GH awhile I now prefer the guitar in GH over the one in RB2.
I believe both GH and RB2 has the option to play together with people over the internet.

I have never played Frets of Fire so I can't really tell how that compares.

*hugs*

Well, I got the game and guitar. Suffice to say I'm quite happy, and the downloaded songs are quite good. (Despite IGN saying they all "sound like a MIDI song" which I think is completel bullshit...only sometimes it does.) The slider bar....ouch...does it suck. Why even bother with it if I can push the fret buttons with more efficencey? Ok, I can imagine the slider bar would be helpful in previous solos I could never do before in the past, but the fact that with slider notes you don't even have to strum even the beginning note makes it even easier. (It's pratically Dance Dance Revoloution on a keyboard/controller) It is however very good for tapping, something I find myself doing a lot when theres no notes playing, now I have to keep myself from doing that cause it actually counts as strums now.

Off I go to christen this guitar to my hands now...my fingers are actually hurting as the neck is a little thicker then the old white guitar.

Rock Band's Hard/Expert mode is a cakewalk next to Guitar Hero's. If you're looking for a challenge, World Tour's the way to go. If you're looking for more contemporary mainstream tunes, Rock Band may interest you more.

The new GH guitar isn't really worth buying when you have the old ones, but that's just my opinion. The sliders are a neat feature and all, but I honestly never really used them. I get lost in the frets when I move my hands to reach for the sliders, so I just stick to the buttons. If you find yourself doing the same, then just save money and stick to the old ones.

Well, I I absoluteley hate the slide bar, so I disable it. However, I"m still glad I bought it because I found out it's REQUIRED to play different notes in the music studio.
