I've had GH 2 on my PS2, GH 3 for PC (cause PS2 wouldn't go online so couldn't download songs...but thanks to Neversoft as we all know I was completely cheated out of that luxury) and Frets on Fire, Alariand Mod. Ever since beating (nearly...I just CANNOT pass The Devil Went Down to Georgia on Expert, playing the song I can do but surviving the double note attacks is just insane) and have been playing Frets on Fire with a library of about 1,000 songs, enjoying every minute of it, but of course never getting the full experience of actual animation in the background and just sufficing with a random slideshow. But I don't really care, as long as I get to play the songs.
That is until I got my 360, and after finally getting some good use out of my HDTV for once, I'm leaning towards getting GH: World Tour. I'm hesitating however, because just how much do I really need to? I am able to download literally every song that the two guitar game series make at a particular website, for use in Frets on Fire...of course minus the graphics. (And yet this somehow stays legal, the actual FoF program got an indie game development award.) That's really the only difference. But making your own character, making/downloading custom songs, online play, and having all this on my big huge TV sounds really intriguing to me. (I had found ONE game online in GH 3 PC since launch.) And I do miss the crowd ambience, and my little Midori with her kick ass katana guitar.
On a side note, is the new guitar worth it? (I have no intentions to buy the drums or mic ATM) I have the red guitar that came with GH 2 for PS2, and the white guitar that came with GH 3 for PC (which is actually the same guitar that came with GH 2 for XBOX) but what I don't like in either guitar is that there are small bumps in between the fret buttons which make sliding between them a pain. Now don't get me wrong, I'm pretty good at hyperons and pulloffs and I actively play on Expert (expect for the crazy shit on Frets on Fire like Canon Rock 2) but sometimes I feel my fingers pressing those bumps as well as the button when doing HO/PO's and it's a little uncomftable at times. Yes, I know those bumps are actually guitar strings and are what you SHOULD be pressing down on on a real guitar, but this isn't a real guitar, so why are they even there in the first place? Then I went to friends house and tried the Rock Band guitar..surprise...no bumps! It was like a piano or synthesizer. The only thing blocking my fingers in between fret buttons was another fret button, not some stupid piece of plastic jutting out between the buttons that don't serve any purpose. Now I've never actually held this new World Tour guitar in my hands, but judging from the pics of the guitar that I see, I DO see lines...but are they bumps or just lines? Also, how does the new slider bar fare?
Ok, enough about my bump rants, is GH: Rock Band AND the guitar worth it?
