That particular map is just an opening sequence. I didn't want to have to have her move around more things than my sanity was prepared for.

And that looks quite good, except for the screen tone. The only thing I'd change is the boat itself; it's... too "neat". No boat that's being worked on would be evenly cut like that. XD

Malick, you sure love dark map.Gothic! It looks sooo dark that if I stay far from my monitor, it's pitch-black! except for the text. Come on, put on some lighting effect or brighten the colour tint.

Well I copied the image, pasted it into the GIMP and upped the brightness.

It looks pretty good. Just curious, Why is there are a tree in the middle of a cave?

Malick: It's too dark to be playable. You'll give your players incredible eyestrain. Bad form, take better care of your player's eyes. A black screen doesn't make a game gothic.

Malick: I agree with others, it is too dark. Aside from that, I like the message box and font.
Impreza: The map itself is pretty good (maybe a bit crowded, and too small for a workshop?), but I don't like the tint. I don't see how the fresh morning feel effects indoor maps.
Atemu: Cool spikes. I'd get rid of the uh.. pillar things at the dark upper wall area because they give a depth feeling that clashes with them being on top of other things, you know?

So anyway:

The tree is story related...so I can't really answer that lol.

@Joy:
The area isn't playable really, it's just a small cave..well it's a closed area of a bigger cave which isn't explored by the player at all really.

@Cowlol
I really like it! Gotta love Ocean's pixel art.

@Impreza:
I'm not aiming for a gothic map, and if I was I would have indeed failed, and there is a lighting effect. If you look by the lower brick wall, there's orange light...

It's not enough, malick. It's one thing having a dark area; it's another thing having an area where you have the brightness on your monitor up as high as it will go and you still can't see a damn thing. :\

Around them you could use flowers, rocks, logs, housing accessories like fences or stuff the people inside own, on the house you'll need a door, not much else you need (windows and chimney =p) but you could try hanging flowerpots or something.

Also, perhaps add grass over the the bottom of the houses to give it that little sense of realism. As mentioned before, flowers, more trees, potted flowers/plants and vines on the houses. As mentioned before, look outside yor house and see what you have, and just be creative. What would be your ideal house/front yard? Just ask yourself questions like that. You could always do some research as well, look up pictures of forested houses.
These may help:

Remember don't stick with the RTP, there are a lot of good tilesets out there. Edit RTP, recolour it, perhaps do some original stuff to add to it.

@Atemu
I like the chunks/pillars of rock in the darkness... But I think they need to be shaded a bit so they blend with the darkness some. If you want to take it further--use more than one tile for them as well.

Just showin' off the revamped battle menus.
During battle the cursor is always active and you can change targets at all times with the control pad. When it's a character's turn, press the corresponding button to execute the listed skill.
Holding 'R' during their turn, changes the command display to show the rest of the character's skills. While holding R, press the corresponding button to execute that skill. You can see this on Tea's turn.
Many complained that it was difficult to tell who's turn it is during battle. I tried to remedy this by connecting the command window with the player status window. It looks pretty sweet I think--but I may add another visual cue up in the battle area. New demo should be out tomorrow or the next. Still just a battle demo as I am redoing what little maps I had done because they just weren't good enough. 8-) (thus first chapter probably won't be done by end of the year as announced... :( )

@Aran: The main thing I like most about your screens is the character sprite. Ace job on that for real. The rest as the others mentioned I won't bother bringing back up for the sake of stating the obvious. But that sprite looks very nice. Even if pillowshaded. For some odd reason it seems to fit. But you do need to look into the desaturated rmxp tilesets to help it actually fit in place.

@Skie Fortress: While your screens are very nice looking I'm not feeling the use of the default White Ties Sprite. I believe an edit or a complete redo altogether would be best. And the menu screen I don't really like the colors is all. It looks nice [[kinda empty]] but the colors are blah :p

@Kicks: As usual I'm impressed with your screen. Not much I can really say on it except lose the backdrop. I think it really clashes with your sprites and its always kinda bothered me.

But as I always say this is just constructive criticism [[not meant to hurt feelings or be mean]] and it is my opinion. You [[people in general]] are entitled to do as they please and what they feel with their games. I'm only here to state my opinion and stuff. But great job every one!
