I don't know what you're talking about... I didn't do that banner. Unless you're refering to the TLE Userbar that you see on my sig, I made that one, but I didn't do XcuMaSoft's banner. I'm not even sure who did.

UPDATE!

We have now moved onto the second draft of the Far Back Story...

And here it is.

Tretsia is a strange and simple land. Its beings are intelligent, enough so to speak, write, read, and comprehend complex concepts such as time, math, language, scientific theory, etc. But, unbeknownst to the civilizations of Tretsia, a secret of immense proportions resides in the darkness of the ruins of a time long forgotten. This secret is the Truth about the ruins, the Truth about the very existence of the Tretsians, and above all, the Truth about the “Birth of Life”, the Tretsian belief of their origins.

It all began on a planet called Earth, with a race of highly intellectual beings that called themselves Humans. These Humans were capable of creating technology that could lead them to space, to the center of their world, and aid them in labor, transport, and even saving lives. Humans really were the greatest beings of their time. As they developed their sciences, Humans discovered many new species of life deep in the oceans, and uncovered the secrets to longer, healthier living.

Before long, Humans began discovering elements they had never seen before. A Human named Erin Redman discovered what she called Redmanium (Rm*) an element that was capable of changing its properties to match other elements when placed near them. Redman discovered that the element could replace any element, and began working to use the element to solve quickly diminishing oil supply issues, and was awarded a Nobel Price for ending a long standing war between the United Kingdoms and a band of Middle Eastern countries by supplying oil to all of the nations in need. This was a great break through, and soon Dr. Redman was tasked with finding other uses of the new element.

Redmanium was plentiful in areas it was discovered in, but finding those areas was difficult. So Redman created a machine that could replicate the Redmanium, and soon the element was very easily accessible to most scientists. It was all manufactured in a factory in <location>.

Alas, regardless of the amazing benefits of the element, a discovery made ten years later by Redman herself showed that those who came in contact with the element, in solid, liquid, and even gas forms, were capable of gaining great intellectual boosts, but it caused sickness as well. Redman died at the age of 32, the smartest human being ever born, simply because of an element she was lucky enough to find. But, no one listened. The sickness only occurred in adults as far as anyone could tell, so soon children were subjected to the element to increase their intelligence. But those children who were given the element to make them smarter still became ill, and hundreds of them died every month for two years. Out of fear and anger, the United States attacked Redman’s homeland, England, with a nuclear bomb. Few survived the blast, but they died from radiation.

And then other nations attacked the United States, affectively destroying it and Canada, as well as Central America and the northern nations of South America. Fighting continued until the world was almost completely destroyed. The last living Humans existed in what was formerly China, but they believed in using the element Redmanium to restore their world. This resulted in their deaths…

Animals in the world had been killed as well, but those who survived began to show signs of intelligence greater than before. They got sick as well, but their illnesses passed quickly, and after a few hundred years, a monkey-like creature that could speak to many different creatures in their respective languages, created the very first known written language. This is the beginning of the birth of Tretsia.

DRAFT ONE

I recommend not setting it in earth, maybe Earth in an alternate universre or something, because if you do it there's going to be parts in the game when people say stuff like, thats not what central america looks like, and I think people would take offensively that everything except China got destroyed lol

lol maybe they will take offense... but the world ends. It does not matter who is the last to go. ALSO the continents on earth are moving all the the time. And the game is set ALONG way into the future and there is nothing left. just a tiny few reminders that humans ever existed!

So no one can say that it does not look like that. we are basing the world map on predictions that NASA and other big organizations have released.

This game will have alot of science hidden away. We have been reading up now for many weeks on what is possible and what is not possible. EVEN the magic on the game is based on real scientific theory's.

Hope that kinda answers your comment. For more info just ask...

thanks.

Wow... If you have no clue what Gears of War is, you don't need to be designing games. Gears of War was the biggest First Person Shooter of the year atleast until some others came out, and soon Halo 3. The story is based in the future after a breed of insectlike/humanoid aliens invade our world and create their world under ours and kill the humans to dominate our world as their own new world in a conquest if I recall....

Essentially all life except for what is left of the elite force of our military across the world called the Gears. Have to save the world and destroy as much of the "grub" as we can.

Thats the story of GoW in a nutshell... I don't recall exactly what the enemies are called. Btw

In XcuMaSoft's defense, I had to look it up in Wikipedia before I remembered hearing about it before.

I don't particularly care for shooters - so they are last on my list of games to keep-up with.

GoW really isn't all that similar to TLE, though.

I find the concept of someone getting offended that, in a fictional game, some such country is the last to support human life fairly humorous.

The Asian continent being the last landmass to support life in TLE is only because of the many underdeveloped areas (places that have no strategic value in a nuclear assault).

The last survivors end up destroying themselves anyway - so it's not like we're playing favorites.

That was a joke, although I definitely want to actually SEE some progress from this game. Maybe a char art update or something? Looks like it's not coming along too good.

I've heard of GoW (Makes me think of God Of War) but I wasn't aware of the full details of the story because I lack the console needed to play it.

Still its quite clear that it is a FPS with giant bugs that you need to kill. Seems very different to what TLE sounds like.

Xcumasoft you say that science will be the base of everything but what is the element you are always talking about supposed to mirror in real life?

It is strange to see you talking about humans like that, as we are of course all human ourselves. I think you need a better reason for America to attack England. For some reason I dont think America would kill a whole country just because they are using some element.

Fantasy worlds that used to be Earth (or similar) but turned into the magic world because of some apocalyptic event are hardly new. Terry Brooks anyone? Although at least it seems you are trying to find a new way to do it. If you are aiming for realism though, it is very hard to believe. Not that it matters, being fantasy.

I also agree with G-man. The only update you have had is to your backstory. Very little is known about your characters. All we know about Seven si that she may or may not like candy. The backstory is separate to the actual games story (despite it obviously having some relevance), so maybe you could tell us about what actually happens in the game.

Many of the story elements are being worked on right now in the TLE forums - we don't want to clog up this thread with all the discussion.

As for what the TLE is, we are thinking of basing it off of anti-matter. So, the specifics may change a bit from what the updated draft of the far-back story has. Since our concepts are progressing rapidly, some of what is posted may be out of date in a few days time - please bare with us as we get everything together.

The idea is that this "element" has such potential for destruction (even as far as the vaporization of the entire planet) that a nuclear strike to prevent its users from developing it further becomes a more reasonable approach.

Regarding the "turning into magic" comment - yes, that is a bit cliche; we are trying to get farther away from any stereotypical RPG-magic aspects and focus more on theoretical technology as an explanation - "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" is the idea.

Our composers are working hard on music and concepts, I am developing a new logo/graphic theme, and I will also be creating the TLE website soon enough, our writers are developing quests and adding detail to the back story, and we are all getting closer to developing a consistent and coherent game concept every day.

I want to add thanks to all of the people who have commented on this project, and I hope that you all will continue to watch this thread with interest.

Well Meticlan it sounds like you know what your doing. I think you have a very good influence over this project and you are an excellent addition to the team.

Still when a project like this is talked up so much people expect to see results :P

Oh, and honestly, I don't care too mcuh about the far back story. I care about the present story, and, most importantly... The characters!

PS: Good to see at least you have your own forums don't have to spam this topic haha.
