The "I Support Good Grammar" Sig Uses Bad Grammar. FIX IT!

A few people use this thing in their signatures these days, and it'd be great IF it weren't ironic as crap that there are grammatical and syntactical errors in the sig itself.

I'm not sure if the message is really anti-bad grammar or just anti-1337 Speak.

And sure, you might make an occasional grammatical mistake in a message, but if you're taking the time to write a message and make a sig out of it, please be careful about comma splices and capitalization. If you are speaking a sentence, it should be punctuated as a sentence, right?

Will someone correct that stupid sig and re-post so people can replace the old version in their sigs so they aren't walking "ironies"?

Errors I noticed:

"Dont you get it?" I've never heard of the word DONT before.

Also, "put an end blablablah, add this to your.."

Those are two sentences, unless it's changed to " AND add this to your signature..." and the comma is taken out.

I never claimed to be perfect with grammar, though I do value the standardization and think it's a slippery slope. But if you are gonna be self-righteous, at least be RIGHT.

Right?

Otherwise you make all of us who do value good grammar look bad.

To be honest this isn't really much of a problem that it deserves a thread, atleast I don't think so anyway.

But if we want to turn it into a legitimate thread about grammar, then sure.

On the topic of grammar, I consider myself to be a great speller, and I can use grammar correctly, such as punctuation and capitalisation, however, the only thing I do different, is that I put a space between question marks and exclamation marks, such as this;

What are you doing ?

Don't do that !

I'm not sure why I do it, it's just a habit I suppose, but it doesn't really bother me at all, since people still know I'm obviously asking a question or making an emphasised statement of some sort (Or maybe I'm just shouting at someone...)

Now, with the signature, if you want to make one yourself without these errors, go ahead, I can't see anyone stopping you, lol.

It really is an awful image especially when people use it against the slightest thing.

Someone typos a word and BAM image is posted.

Doesn't happen here but does elsewhere.

Grammar is not important. Fair enough if someone is typing u and i and dey and shit all over the place it is annoying, but it's just their way of typing. There's extremes on both ends which both need to die, but the inbetweeners are chill ~

what does Lawl, (h)!!! even mean

I have never heard anyone talk like those examples

I assume it's on MSN where (h) is the smiley with the shades on, and obviously Lawl is lol.

How do you know it's referring to just forums though, and not the internet as a whole ?

I mean, it doesn't specifically say, does it ? o.O

It's...

Idk. It used to be annoying but it really shouldn't be. I used to moan at people using RAWR and LAWL etc but it's extremely obvious what they're saying. Someone using their instead of there, etc, it's still readable in exactly the same way so there shouldn't be a problem with it.

If it was in a project thread or in a game then :box: but otherwise :thumb:

D...do you love me despite my perfect grammar...?

I used to be one of those pretentious teenagers who run around correcting everyone's grammar, but then I realized I was being incredibly obnoxious and stopped. There are times when presentation matters, but for the times it doesn't, whatever. I do tend to prefer conversing with people with some degree of eloquence, and eloquence frequently goes hand in hand with a solid understanding (although not necessarily strict observance) of English grammar, but it's not a huge deal in general. People mixing up homophones irritates me when I see it, though.

hm, I've never noticed it, I'm not sure who made it though, but a typo isn't chatspeak, which is the main message it's giving. lol is Chatspeak omg is too and much more weird letters, dont isn't chatspeak though so I would have to go against changing it, unless I get paid that is...

Thank you and have a nice day!

the "I, for one, support good grammar" line reeks of pretentiousness

lots of people support proper grammar but aren't so anal as to advertise themselves as the sole martyr in a world of chatspeak

it doesn't even matter most of the time unless you're trying to put your best foot forward in such as a game topic or letter to the queen. in all cases but those, I don't have an issue with it as long as it's easy to tell what's being communicated.

anyone who prides themselves first and foremost on their internet grammar of all things is just being hell of incorrigible imo

As Long As You Don't Type Like This I Really Don't Care.

honestly that's the only thing that effects a terrible reaction out of me. I can stand terrible grammar and spelling, but the affect I get when people start to capitalize every word...

I agree, the whole thing is just kind of pretentious. "Indeed." Seriously? Nobody but fancy top hat and monocle wearing britishmen say that. I'm fine with letting people know that chatspeak and leetspeak make you look less intelligent, but I don't like the pretentious grammar/spelling perfectionists either. People like that just need to chill out a bit. Sure, adding "-esque" to the end of something isn't a real word, it gets the point across.

It is a bit frustrating when you see people trying to make an effort, but going about it all wrong. I saw someone attempt to spell the word "no" with the letters "k-n-o-w". T_T
