The english version was TERRIBLE when the song was translated they had to elongate the vowels and shit because there werent enough syllables to spread across the notes
it made want to punch SE i mean just KEEP THE FUCKING JAP VERSION its not like you cater to ten year olds who dont have taste in the japanese culture OH WAIT A SECOND.
I love alot of utada's songs but her english stuff makes me want to slap her (Simple and Clean and Devil inside were like her ONLY exceptions)
I haven't heard Utada's english songs nor do I care, but her english isn't as bad as most Jpop stars (all three songs of hers I've heard that is.) This is probably because she was born and raised in New York... Which... Probably helps with her pronunciation. I remember Sanctuary being composed first, which is why Sanctuary isn't an overproduced bukkake of shit.
I don't care about arguing personal taste over what version sounds better, needless to say elongated syllables have never been a problem since many bands have created songs that contain changes in pitch or chord progression over a single syllable. However adding way too many fucking instruments and creating a crowded mess of sound (the defining quality of Jpop)
is a negative factor and the only meaningful difference between the two songs.
And actually, if you listen to the two songs you'll notice she elongates the same syllables. She does that weird held pitch shift in both the English and Japanese versions so I dunno wtf you're talking about.
As for why they're included in the game I have no idea, other than Nomura heard an Utada song in the office one day and decided he wanted to bang her. Not having the social or mental skills to do this in person, he sneakily decided to arbitrarily have her make a song for KH (a game he was charged with making because every other developer at SE looked at the design doc and went "fuck this shit". In fact, to this day Tetsuya is still the crappy little lap dog of Square, who desperately wants to direct his own real FF, but will never be able to because the producers at Square know it'll become crap. So instead we get his shitty little side quasi-FF projects, but I digress.)
Succeeding in luring her over to Square to make a song for his weeaboo female ejaculate inducing Disney/Post FFVII flipper baby, Tetsuya failed in keeping the zipper to his pants open and drove Utada away in disgust (this caused an increased paranoia and obsession with zippers, something that would later become a trademark in ALL Nomura character designs from that point on... Aside from being Cloud with a different hair color.) Nomura however, could not be discouraged. Knowing Utada's love for money and shiny jangly things to put in her vagoo, Nomura convinced her to do a second song for his next game, but failed again to invade her "Midgar Reactor." Depressed and broken, he was left with having to bone GACKT (AKA: the Japanese entertainment industry's "town bicycle.") GACKT went on record stating how proud he was to work with Nomura and wear an Utada skin suit during the production of Dirge of Cerberus.
Nomura was too late however in discovering that by murdering Utada and creating a skin suit of her flesh, that she could no longer make shitty Jpop songs for his pretentious and terribly written video games (like the enigmatic "Kingdom Hearts 38 Days after the 24 Hours of Night", co-produced by h.a.n.d.j.o.b.) This is why all of his retarded and impossible to remember KH offshoots do not feature her music. GACKT is also too busy pretending to be a schizophrenic homosexual samurai and could not be reached for comment.
