LUNAR: The Silver Star is my favorite RPG of all time.
I own the Sega CD, Playstation and Gameboy Advance versions. The Silver Star Story COMPLETE (Playstation) version being my absolute favorite version of it.
When I first saw my brother bring it home, I was amazed at the love Working Designs (now defunct) poured into the game, even the packaging. The packaging! The game came with four discs- Two game discs, a Making Of disc and a music CD. Not only that, but it came with a cloth map of the world of LUNAR and a thick, hardcover in-color black book as the manual.
The game is in 2D but a very impressive 2D, very colorful graphics and smooth animations. LUNAR has anime scenes with (what I think) good dubbing, the music is fabulous throughout the whole game and Luna's singing voice is just beautiful.
LUNAR might not have the most amazing of stories, it actually brings me back to old(er) school games with simplistic plots like the first Final Fantasies.
But often with wonderful games, it's not the story that's important, it's how you tell it that makes people fall in love. Trust me, the story blew me away. It's still a very impressive way of telling a story in an RPG without it being the routine "You're the chosen one, kill this random evil guy who wants to destroy the world".
The characters are very developed, the villain in this game is probably the least expected villain. I actually really love him and know where he's coming from.
So anyway... LUNAR is so my fave. [/ramble]
