Stargate Ring & Iris WIP RTP (PA)

Not bad at all; your actual ring is the best I've seen out of pixelated StarGates, but the glowy stuff could use some work. It's not like that at all; it's more like glowing ripples of water. Definitely nice work so far though.

@TdataAh...^^: My mistake..it is a WIP so I've not gotten to do the Iris yet...but thanks for that correction. I'll call it ring/iris when finished.

@SkylaYeah the ripple effect is REALLY hard to mimic...I'll have to pull out old episodes and study it in action.

Wow. The Stargate itself is rather well done (I would've used maybe a deeper/darker blue myself...but otherwise it looks good) and yeah, the Event Horizon is more like the surface of water, where it glows and looks like a lot of little waves all moving at once and such...it'll be the hardest part, but if you can manage to pull it off, then kudos! Just try small. Make the blue, then toy around with it a bit until you have something you're happy with.

What is this for, anyway?

I like it alot! I'm wondering if you mind me using these because in my game I was actually planning on using or making one of these myself, a big part of my game is fallen angels/aliens visiting earth in a modern time setting and this would be cool. but yea it looks pretty damn good

Much better! I'd suggest making it a little lighter, but it looks very good like that.

PSP is pretty much a pain in the ass to use for more advanced graphics. Yeah, I use it a lot for spriting, but anything more advanced than that, I ship it over to Photoshop.

MUCH better! However, the light source in the middle there, I would move it to the middle (static) and have the edges move outward more and inward more in areas than have the spot move around.

See first post for adjustment...I have made a stargate ringwith the Iris opening w/o the event horizon and with the event horizon...next step after refinements (if anyone has any please disclose!^^ I need all the help I can get) is to the event horizon being activated animation...(and I thought doing the iris was going to be hard...-_-;)

@Skyla; Thank you, I've made it slightly lighter (I fig you could always adjust hue in game if you wish it lighter) As for PSP, after months of only having ms paint and photoimpression, it's a considerable upgrade. (cheaper than photoshop too)

@Sketch I have done what I think you meant...check it out and see if that is what you were saying.

There you go! The glowy stuff looks MUCH better now.

Now, about the iris. For one thing, you pillowshaded it, and it looks pretty bad. Also, the black outline seems to contrast with the rest of the iris pretty badly. When it's actually closed, the center piece came out very good, though again, the pillow shading really makes it stick out like a sore thumb. I like the lighting effect on the one while the StarGate is still active though.

Try defining the different plates of the iris a bit more, like with an outline (not black). Also, change the black outline in the center. So far, this is coming along great.

Pillow shading is when you shade around the outline of an object, leaving the center the base color. For some style games, it looks okay, but most people frown on it. With your StarGate, it SEVERELY contrasts with the ring.

Okay I understand..I've tried to "lighten" the iris and inner circle with a dark grey (as opposed to black ^^) Also I've "speckled?" the plates to give them texture and definition. (At first glance it really doesn't look that different now that I seem them side by side...hrm...)

The Stargate and the Event Horizon now look -very- good. You definitely knew what I was talking about when you made the change ;)

As for the Iris, Skyla has given you the best advice/critique on that...anything I say would be repeating the obvious XD

Well, here is a whole sprite sheet..kawoosh event horizon included...please tell me what you think, how I can improve, or whichever. I did change the first few reflections of the horizon so it has more of a "reflected light on water" feel.

again it is still a WIP so please do not use until it is completed! Thankyou!

Ah...it has been brought to my attention that it is bothering (not here) that I have only eight and not nine cheverons... so I'll have to re adjust and re do part of the gates...-_-, still keep your comments to improve coming!

I think it looks very good. The shading on the iris feels a little off though. There's no real depth on them: there should be some shadow beneath the point where they crisscross and where the frame overhangs for example. Still, I really like how this is coming together.

@Mea, thanks for picking that up^^

@Kip EH? Like water? the Iris is the plate (that was cleared up in the first few posts)..secondly the EVENT horizon is like water..which I've done,
As for the Kawoosh This is how it would look if you were staring straight on at it...the perspective is the water is coming at you...you aren't looking at it from the sideview....as for the purple..it isn't purple, I don't think.
