Starcraft!?!?

Anyone ever played Starcraft? I remember the good ol' days when I was 8-9, I used to play it a lot. It was very fun. I would always use the Protoss:thumb: (I remember in the campaign, En Taro Adun!). They were the slowest for me to mobilize-_- but don't be too confident, The have powerful carriers and arbiters (want me to freeze you B!TCH? Ahaha) The Zerg is cool too:D , they're very quick and powerful at the start but can be outmatched later in the game. Unless you control most of the supplies and have a huge ultralisk army!

The Terran is in the sort of middle:yes: , quick but sort of not too powerful.
But very cool if you have the battlecruiser or a science vessel:thumb: (The shield of the science vessel! I hate it! It would eat my units! And the EMP shockwave for annoying defense systems) Battlecruiser ready!

En Taro Adun!^_^

I thought the zergs were pretty good. I'd always mass spawn zerglings (I think that's what they are called) and defeat my bro very quickly ^_^. (rushing) Humans, all I did was mass create those people who collect the minerals and vespene gas and then your done.

Well, that tactic is what I tried when noticed that zerglings came out in 2's!
The tactic is quite useless when the protoss is the enemy, the melee guy, is just too powerful a few jabs will kill quick.

EDIT:

Haha yea protoss! I actually just tried because they seemed very aesthetic! Ahaha
very artsy and all that gleaming crystals! Hehehe, but they're good.

I think they're all balanced out and its just up to the player to tip that balance to win.

Protoss! Boo ya!

Even though I dont play it anymore... ^_^

I play Warcraft III if I ever play a game by blizzard. (about every week or so...)

Wow, looks like I'm going to be the first to say this, but:

Humans rock! The Science Vessel's EMP wiped out those Protoss shields and Irradiate took care of Zerg nicely. Oh yeah.....and nukes.

The main drawback? Turrets needed Marines before they became useful and really could drain your unit limit.

Other than that, I use to be able to rush with Dark Templar (in something like 10 minutes, if I remember right).

I really didn't care for the Zerg. Just wasn't my style to rush in with hundreds of units to watch them all die off, but knowing that through sheer number I could win.

Blizzard is making a big announcement this week in Korea. Speculation around the web has been that it is going to be a new Starcraft game. There has even been rumors it will be a MMORPG. I am personally hoping it is not because I don't have the time anymore to invest into these open-ended games. Would anyone here be excited to play World of Starcraft?

I'm about 99% sure that it is an online game for a few reasons. Most websites that have articles about it are saying that it is a new MMO, not just a new game. And Blizzard has been hiring non-stop for "Next-Gen MMO" positions.

However I really, really hope it isn't World of Starcraft. They will be making a huge error trying to put two games into the exact same market. Especially since they will overlap so much in style and gameplay.

What I would like to see is a Starcraft MMOFPS, like PlanetSide. As a Terran, you start your character, and as you level up can learn proficiencies to work SCVs or pilot Vultures and use different kinds of weapons. As Zerg, once you get enough experience you get the option to evolve into higher level units. As Protoss probably more similar to Terran except you get to specialize your class more than just pick up new abilities.

Then just have all-out warfare between areas, mostly player driven. Although some NPC fighting would need to exist.

Let us all bow our heads and give a moment of silense to appreciate the greatest idea of all time that Prexus just bestowed upon us... :please:

And now back to serious...

Link please? I have heard about "announcements" and "secret projects" and "release dates" for to many years to just go "Wow! Awesome" to that comment.

And here comes the back up.

Terran were a tricky race, most pros went for zerg, while most casual went for protoss because of there immense power, but never really looked into a tactical stand point. Terran have the most advanced tactics, I like to think of using them well as wave-dashing in ssbm. Aka really hard, but with great pay offs. Sure its hard to survive the zerg rush, and the protoss first wave/second/third/you get the point. But once you get into good standings, and especially if you have a battlecruiser armada, you pretty much win.

It will be a RTS. Blizzard has responded to the rumors of an MMO coming out by saying flatly no, they are not developing any new RTS games. All the stuff about a Starcraft MMO has been april fools day jokes and wild speculation.

Now, would anyone hate me if I said that Starcraft held the same place in my heart that Halo does? That is, I don't get what the hell the big deals is!

Starcraft was the single most unbalanced RTS I've ever played. No RTS should play out like an entire faction based game of paper-rock scissors. I thought the game was miserable in light of the other RTS games out at the time. I've recently tried playing it again, just to see what all the hoola was about, thinking maybe I had to mature into it. I just don't get it.

Oh, and terrans FTW.

I think Blizz is making the right move with Starcraft 2, and keeping Warcraft out of the RTS world. There was too much comparison between Starcraft and Warcraft and it hindered the games ability to blossom, I think. However, Starcraft 2 better not include Heroes and it better be damn awesome.

Warcraft 3 wasn't a particularly good game, and neither was Starcraft. I agree with you there. But there are certain aspects of the game that make it ZOMGSWEET. The "RTS" is a dead genre, in that there is very little that can be done with it to make it innovative and new.

http://www.blizzard.com/ <- Teaser splash screen. Note the ? after World of Warcraft.

I'd never read that bolded quote in the first link before. It looks as though it might not be Starcraft related, and might actually be Diablo 3 or an entirely new game. It's only 3 days, we'll just have to wait and see..

Nah... no diablo, the entire staff quit to work on hellgate london (another mmo... (for consoles maybe...)) and Arc brings up good points about an mmo, but that splash screen you pulled up makes me wonder... maybe it was like that to open up for the addon? (burning crusade I do beleive (never gotten into wow))

Protoss and terren! I used to play all the time until my damn disk snaped. =(
Also I remeber many years ago when wow was nothing but concept art there was another game on their list called starcraft GHSOTS. Yo played as the terren units the Ghosts(my favorite next to the biker guys) and I think it was a FPS. It was so long ago though I dont fully remember but I'll check it out and the links above and see if I can ind more info on it.

Hey Prex, dunno if you played Company of Heroes, but there is a LOT that can be done with the RTS genre.

Also, go look up a game called "Metal Fatigue." Deeply flawed game with a gem of a concept.

There's more to be done, but developers are afraid to take chances.

I'm a Warcraft III addict, but that's a result of its modability.

Exactly.

Protoss strategy: Either rush with a few (overpowered) base units or build up an small detatchment of superpowered units and slowly plow your way through anything in your path.

Zerg strategy: Either rush with mass quantities of weak base units or build up even larger mass force of slightly better units and overwhelm enemy with sheer numbers.

They really didn't leave you much room. Terran had some of the most strategic units (Science Vessels, Ghosts) and adaptable strategies (Science Vessels against Protoss and Firebats against Zerg rushes). The other races were pretty much "one-strategy-fits-all".

Nothing struck more panic than trying to find the building or unit with a red dot on it whenever you heard the phrase: "Nuclear launch...detected."

Starcraft Ghost is far too dated. It was scheduled for launch on PS2 and XBox. The graphics are subpar, and the gameplay took a turn for the worst when they announced that the online play was going to mimick Halo.

It was a failed project from the start.
