Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Lol. Game looked glitchy there. He was standing perfectly still on the corner of that ramp. No friggin way :P

I think that smoke trail behind Sonic is so stupid. They need to remove that completely.. or shrink the smoke to 1/8th that size.. it's dumb.

I'm hoping that they touch up a few things too, but jesus I'm just in awe that perhaps, perhaps this may actually be a freaking step in the right direction for te Sonic series.

Isn't the leak pretty much the Alpha version? Yeah, of course it's gonna have some bugs.

But as an overall, this looks damn awesome. I've been waiting for a Sonic game like this for a long time... Too long. I would love to hear some samples for the music, as well. I wouldn't mind if they stuck with what they have for the series now (without the shitty vocals), but something similar to Sonic CD would kick me in the arse.

If you turn up the speakers REALLY loud you can actually hear the music . . . . very reminiscent of old school Sonic games

... anyone want to speculate about the plot?

I don't know. I like the fact that it's side-scrolling again - but I think they should have said "F U" to the graphics update: it looks too polished.

It's hard to say what the plot may entail, but I really hope they stay away from the "holy-crap-the-world-is-going-to-end-and-Eggman-isn't-the-real-threat-here" crap they've been pulling. I rather enjoy having Eggman be the bad guy, so the typical Eggman does bad stuff and Sonic has to stop him is fine with me.

I'm sorta' neutral about the graphics; they don't bother me, but I'm not orgasmic over them. But hey, at this point I think I'm just really happy and optimistic that Sonic 4 might, let me repeat that, might be good!

With that I've come to update with some news i've learned about in the past few weeks regarding Sonic 4:

According to an interview with Game Informer magazine:

The latest issue of Game Informer has more information on Sonic 4: Episode 1 than one could possible want, with screens and an interview that should please plenty of old school fans. At least, the old school fans who aren't busy whining about Sonic's legs being too long.

The Achievements for Sonic 4 have been revealed, and they point to yet more old-school shenanigans. We have learned that Super Sonic will return in Sega's big series reboot, along with the classic Chaos Emeralds. It's also worth pointing out that Sonic 4's Achievements indicate quite a robust and lengthy experience, despite the episodic nature of the game.

All seven Chaos Emeralds will be collectible in Sonic 4, and there's an Achievement for beating 1,000 enemies and gaining 99 lives. Hopefully this means there is lots of playtime attached to Episode One

Here's all the important stuff gleaned from the interview with Takashi Iizuka:

* Episode 1 is a prologue to the main story
* Tails and Knuckles are teased to return in Episode 2
* Moves include: Spin Dash, Rolling Attack, Homing Attack and a fourth mystery one
* Classic special stages will be returning
* The graphics aren't 3D, but CG pre-renders
* If you don't get all the Chaos Emeralds, you'll receive a classic "Try Again" ending. Getting all the emeralds results in a cliffhanger tease for Episode 2

Of the controversial Homing Attack, Iizuka says he wanted Sonic 4 to have an easy-to-play feeling, as well the ability to find "fun routes in the air." He also says that this is the return to form that "you have been waiting sixteen years for." Some bold words indeed. Very, very bold.

Anyways, feel free to post your thoughts on this new info. I for one would've preferred having the entire game in a disc based form and I would have no qualms about paying for it! But oh well . . . Also HELL YES Tails and Knuckles will be appearing.

I've a copy of that magazine, haven't gotten around to reading it yet though. I didn't know there was an article on Sonic 4 in there so I'll have to check that out.

One of the enemies in those screens look like that blue orb thing from the Marble Garden Zone in Sonic 3.

I'm glad to know that Tails and Knuckles will appear in Episode 2

Those new screenshots make me more enthused!

Classic special stages

Do you think this means special stages in general will be returning, or we will see a revamp of some of the old special stages?

Good question, I rather enjoyed Sonic 3 & Knuckles' special stages, Sonic 2 was good but then became waaaaaay hard as you got closer to the final emeralds, and Sonic 1 was alright

as long as it's not ridiculously hard or dizzying, I don't mind

@Incognitus: that would be pretty damn cool I have to admit.

Got some new screens today. What's interesting here is that it looks like Sonic's legs won't be as sluggish after all:

Well that seems... bland...

I've been looking at all of the leaked gameplay footage and I'm really going off it: It's beginning to look a lot like a revamp of the original Sonic and less like an original game with a few homages to the original.

I really hope I'm wrong: Hopefully this will make "Sonic 3 and Knuckles" look like... well...
