“The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible.”
-Albert Einstein
There is a time long forgotten in the lore of today’s storytellers. A time when darkness reigned and the blackest of magics were used freely with no regard for the continents. A time when hope was man's greatest weakness and pain, and when blood stained the hands of all men. There was a sorcerer behind it, one who will always be without name, for name is the greatest summon. He commanded an army of terrible creatures; some with disfigurements, others without resemblance of humanity. That was until a hero arrived, one who shone so brilliantly that terror was struck into the heart of the sorcerer. In the final confrontation, the hero was losing. Gasping and nearing death, his body triggered the magic with made him so special. It was called the Vathos, and it was pure light which could only exist in the presence of pure darkness. Neither light nor darkness could ever win this battle, for what is one without the other? The hero could not destroy the sorcerer, so he locked the sorcerer's powers into a box that could only be opened with Vathos. But the sorcerer still exists, waiting and lurking for another with the gift to come again and release him.
Liam was born and raised in the small mountain town of Dell, learning how to wield an axe and providing for his mother and younger sister. On the day of his best friend’s wedding, he and Raphael and distracted by what seems to be his sister out in the woods. When they return the village, they are distraught to see that a stonespell has been cast over it, turning all of the villagers to stone. Liam, who has always longed for an adventure, believes that there was a reason that they were distracted when the spell was cast. He enthusiastically sets out to reverse the spell and Raphael follows along, torn between his desire to keep watch over the stone figure of his fiancé and his need to free her from this spell.
The mage at the bottom of the mountain tells them that there is only one sorcerer strong enough to cast a stonespell over the whole village. He tells Liam that in order to free his town, he needs to open the sacred chest containing pure light which will then destroy the sorcerer and free the town of Dell.
The original story of the Vathos being forgotten in history, Liam and Raphael leave on a quest to save their village. Soon after they leave the mage’s house, a shadowy figure visits him and tells him that he has done well, and everything is now in motion, and his lord shall be free again…
Something isn’t quite right. Is Liam really the hero who is intended to defeat the sorcerer? Or is he just a helpless pawn in a much larger scheme?

When the captain, Oleander, found her, she impressed him with her fiery attitude as well as reminded him of his own days as a waif, and he allowed her to stay and work for him. Now, six years later, Natalie is still a loyal member of his crew.
Oleander de Saint-Cecile

Growing up as a homeless pickpocket on the streets of Kalva, Oleander was found by a corrupt group of Leaguesmen who intended to use him as bait when they went monster-hunting. Born with no last name, Oleander adopted the one of the pirate captain who became almost like a father to him prior to his death in battle.
Avery

Not much is known about Avery, though he was one of the sorcerer’s original army, and after the sorcerer’s fall, he stayed on as his right hand man. Deformed by the sorcerer’s dark magic, Avery has spent centuries learning the art of Necromancy and he is quite a proficient shaman. He is not the strongest or smartest of fighters, but there is a cunning to him that makes him quite deadly.
Other Characters:
Deandre, or Dre, is one of Oleander’s pirates, and he lets his heart lead him. He tends to act on impulse, and is quite stubborn.
Celia is Oleander’s childhood sweetheart, and after he saves her when her manor is burning down, she stays onboard the ship with him.
Laurent is a mysterious figure who guards the shrine where the chest containing the sorcerer’s powers is locked. He knows more than he lets on, and is always there to subtly guide the characters. While Laurent appears kind and helpful, he is working for his own purposes.
Ritai: this is the name given to the three continents that lie in the middle of what is known as the “Endless Ocean”. Ritai is ruled by a High King, Joseph Betang, though the three continents have their own princes, who happen to be his sons.
Mercia: the main kingdom of the Ritai, and run by Ludra Betang, Mercia is where most of the politicians and rich men live. Its capital city, Kalva, is largest trading port in Ritai, but it is also the city with the largest slums and most waifs. The High King of Ritai lives here, surrounded by nobles and dignitaries. Mercia has the largest army out of the three continents, and it also has a large group of Leaguesmen, men who legally fly sky ships to trade material and to make a profit.
Cerir: this is the second largest of the continents, and its prince is Angeld Bentang, a more peaceful man than his brother. Though Cerir is vast, most of the citizens live in the north. It is a wild place, full of monsters and plainsmen.
Arcia: the smallest of the continents and also the most mysterious, Arcia is home to magical races such as the elves, and most of its numerous forests are bathed in mist. The prince of Arcia is Perwar Betang, the smartest but least ambitious of his family.

EXTRA INFO:
The story may seem a little cliché, but trust me, it’s nothing like it seems. What I have given here basically outlines the first hour of the game, but the storyline changes throughout the arcs (I’m planning for four arcs, with different chapters within them), and it isn’t all ‘chosen hero with light power must defeat darkness’ like it seems. I’m trying to focus a lot on the characters and their development, and I hope they play a large part in the appeal of the game. I want living, breathing, characters, and I’m working towards achieving that.
