Creator's Note [5/25/09]:
HUGE UPDATE - This will now be the sequel to "Shattered Gear: Volume I - Illuminatus". I thought out the odds of this game ever coming to fruition in it's ambitious state, and decided to start smaller, to get people familiar with the Shattered Gear world. I've created a second project in Concept Development for the new Volume I. Until then, I declare this thread inactive until further notice. All music will be used in Shattered Gear: Vol.I still, and all the concept art will be essentially the same. Volume I just has a bigger emphasis on the mecha-structure and development of the universe that Volume II will be.[color]
AEGIS GAMES FORUM
Far away in the distant reaches of the universe lies the Renar System, also known as the System of the Silver Sun, which shines with a slightly different color than the one we see every day. Within the Renar System are seven different planets, from the dry deserts of Giza to the ocean-covered planet Atlin. Over the past four years, a horrible war has broken out between two military behemoths, leaving the innocent dead in their wake.
The monstrous Lancastrian Monarchy of the planet Kaczur have declared war on the brawny Gundarian Democratic-Republic. Gundar has seemingly done nothing wrong, but not through Lancaster's eyes. Instead of fighting, Gundar has offered a peace treaty. Lancaster would have none of their deceit, and continue to attack. However, on every single planet, a rebel outpost is placed. The name of the rebels is simply, "The Vanguard." Comprised of elite soldiers trained in many forms of combat, the Vanguard's numbers have risen since the start of the war. Lancaster realizes the danger in this, and quickly allies with the Republic of Atlin, extending its reaches within the Renar System.
The Vanguard, too, has friends in high places in the form of the Renarian Council, the 7 rulers of Renar, all of whom wish to end the war by any means necessary. With the war at a dramatic stalemate four years after its beginning, many are profitting from the deaths of men and women alike. However, Skyler Delgado, a "noble" space pirate, sees no point in joining any side but his own in the war. He steals a little bit from both alliances, deeming himself in the right. However, a fellow space pirate and Skyler's guardian after his father's untimely death by the name of Marcus Renith starts a mutiny against Skyler, casting him overboard and leaving him for dead on the desert planet of Giza.
Now looking for honest work as a bodyguard, Skyler is hired by the Gizan Farming Agency to protect one of the most infamous crop-farmers on the planet and his family. When men wearing the uniform of Lancaster come knocking on their door, events are set in motion, all of which lead to the adventure of a lifetime. Skyler will meet plenty of new people on his journey, with plenty of spoils to plunder, places to visit, friends and enemies alike to be made, and a destiny to be discovered.

Synopsis
Playing the role of the leading man in this new chapter of his story, Skyler joins the Resistance forces who are combatting Lancaster and Atlin. Though he is reluctant to get involved at first, his strong sense of justice and a little convincing from his first real friend since he was cast overboard his ship changed his mind, and he now strives for what thousands of others do and have failed to achieve in four years: peace.
The rag-tag branch of the Vanguard that Skyler joins has developed a secret weapon, known as the X-Gear. Apparently, this weapon is supposed to bring an end to the war with explosive results, much like the atom bomb did for the United States in Hiroshima and Nagisaki in Japan during World War 2. However, as soon as Skyler joins the Vanguard, it is mysteriously stolen. Of course, nobody blames him (openly) for its disappearance, but for some reason, it becomes his job to bring it back. Before he can do that, he'll need to be trained in several fields, such as using the System's vehicles, the Assault Gears.
While Skyler attempts to recover the stolen blueprint, he uncovers a conspiracy, and realizes that there are higher powers behind the war. Now confronted with several obstacles all at once, Skyler must look to the past and find a way to overcome them without help from his new companions, who have been there every step of the way for him until now. In order to get to the bottom of everything, he must become what he swore to his father that he'd destroy: a killer.
Because this game takes place in a kind of futuristic setting, we thought that it would be appropriate to use kinda of a techno-ish approach to tug at the player's emotions in different ways. Each piece written and composed by Syphonmax is unique, and he's getting better all the time. Of course some of his songs require some revision, but not very much of it. We love what we see from him so far, and hope he'll be around for the entire series' development. We'll give you a sample of what we've got so far. Note that by listening to these songs you agree that you can't legally download and use the songs without mine or Syphonmax's permission.

Planets
Mercury III (The Red Planet)
The hottest planet in the Renar System. Survival is only possible thanks to the Rapid Coolant Systems, invented to keep humans cool while inhabiting this planet. A large variety of rare ore is gathered from the mines here, like diamonds or coal.
Giza (The Desert Plant)
Giza's natural oxygen-rich atmosphere and medium amount of water supply allow for small plant and vegetation growth. The TST (Transformative Sand Turbine) has the ability to turn pure sand into water, which is fairly handy to small villages not near a water source, but extremely expensive to maintain and is only used in emergency situations.. Many herbs for medicinal cures can be found here.
Zevan (The Night Planet)
An enormous asteroid field in orbit with Zevan prevents any sun from getting through to the rocky city. Because of this, not very much heat gets to the surface, and most people live underground in manmade shelter where heat from the planet's core penetrates the crust. The asteroids have a very sought-after mineral within them.
Atlin (The Water Planet)
Over 98% of this planet is made of water. The only land above sea level are the four Corsedia Islands. The sealife here is fairly abundant, and the oceans are vast and colorful, making this a coveted getaway spot.
Gundar (The Second Earth)
This planet is the only one that resembles our Earth. It's tilted axis allows for season throughout the entire year. At the top and bottom of the planet, it is always frozen.
Kaczur (The Mining Planet)
80% of the galaxy's resources come from this planet and its three moons. Because of this, job opportunities are applenty, and Kaczur is known as the center of commerce in the Renar System.
Verith (The Ice Planet)
Home to a secret resistance base (and the former base of the FENRIR group), Verith is covered entirely with ice. No one has ventured far away from the three cities that humans have inhabited for the past 45 years, so not much is known about the outlying areas. It is rumored that monsters of some kind live at the core, protecting a very rare object.

Assault Gears
Assault Gears are the main vehicle of choice throughout Shattered Gear. Every battle is won or lost with these suckers. It's nothing less than satisfying to take one of these bad boys down with an AGC-606 [Anti-Gear Cannon], and even more satisfying to pilot one yourself! Skyler starts off with one AG that the Resistance gives him [AG:GX-
00/ZERO] which is the most basic AG design and cheapest to maintain. As you complete more missions, you will be able to steal or purchase more Assault Gears, if you choose.
<[AG:GX-00//ZERO]>
A state-of-the-art basic bipedal infantry unit. Lightly armored, as well as lightly armed, to keep production costs down, this AG is only capable of carrying shell-based weapons, such as machine guns.
<[AG:GX-22//RAVEN]>
A prototype winged Assault Gear. Like its predecessor, it is lightly armored to cut prouction costs, but also makes it more agile while in flight. Can be armed only with shell-based weaponry, but has the option of equipping bombs or missiles.
<[AG:GX-39//ENTITY(PS)]>
The ENTITY is a prototype heavy-fire AG. It supports mainly long-range weapons, but can be modified to support medium-range weapons as well. It is also the first AG to have the Phase Shift [PS] armor added into it's specs, making the Oron Alloy that it's built out of twice as strong.
<[AG:GX-76//SHADOW]>
The SHADOW Assault Gear combines and incredible agility due to its lightweight structure with short to mid-range weaponry and is a deadly combination. The first prototype quad-pedal AG, it is fairly difficult to learn to control, but easy to master. If it takes direct hits, then it becomes useless scrap.
<[AG:GX-99//NEO]>
The GX-99 is a great overall assault gear; it's weapon range is large, and to mercenary pilots who steal them, it's expensive to maintain, which is why it was created for military-purpose only. Made with Neo-Oron, a modified Oron Alloy that is combined with several various metal alloys, the defense of the NEO is great, and coupled with its offensive array of weapons, it is surely a match-maker.
<[AG:GX-101//FORGE]>
The FORGE Assault Gear was a secret project developed by the Vanguard and released about three months prior to the start of the game. The FORGE is a completely redesigned model, implementing several functions that no other Assault Gear use. Because of this, only about fifty were made, as the project overwhelmed developers' budget. Taking their research from the GX-99, they combined the Neo-Oron, with Sylvastium, a metallic composite found in the Kamar Mountaintops. The FORGE is by far the most powerful Assault Gear around. However, only Commanders and the such are able to pilot them.

<[AM-U:LC-516]> or "Genesis"
With data stolen from the Vanguard during an attack on a minor base, the Loyalists redesigned the AG:GX-00/ZERO model to fit better specs for themselves. Not much is different, other than the model's feel and internal design.
<[AM-U:TK-822]> or "Godfist"
Continuing research from the Genesis project, the Royal Army created "Godfist", a close-combat specialist Armored Mech Unit. They have knuckles fitted on the end of their arms, modified with special ARC-Ray formatting, which will shock the enemy mech's system, paralyzing it. Considered very dangerous, the Godfist is heavily-armored, and can only be taken down safely at a long distance.
<[AM-U:GG-268]> or "Sniperwolf"
Fitted with a high-power energy-converting ballistic auto-fire sniper rifle, the Sniperwolf is a redesign of the SHADOW in the way that it is a quadpedal mech. Aside from the ZZM55 energy rifle fitted onto its back, the Sniperwolf has energy-propelled "chainguns" attached to its shoulders, so if things should get heated, the G-268 has some backup. The first Union AG equipped with a self-destruct sequence.
<[VULCAN: Model 001 - VX-Genesis2]>
The first prototype in the VULCAN Assault Gear series, VX-Genesis2 is the first heavily-armed unit still in mass production. With the discovery that Oron can increase an AGs defense, the VULCAN series began, with Genesis2. Coupling amazing defense borrowed from Godfist, with an integral sensor array and the ability to increase ammunition storage for their weapons.
<[VULCAN: Model 002 - VX-Raptor]>
The second model in the VULCAN series, the VX-Raptor is an agile prototype, another counter-part to the Vanguard's SHADOW Assault Gear. Low defense, high agility mech.
<[VULCAN: Model 003 - VX-Exodus]>
The third model in the VULCAN series, the VX-Exodus is multi-purpose Assault Gear, baring resemblances to the Vanguard's GX-99/NEO Assault Gear. It's statistics are slightly lower, however, making it easier and cheaper to manufacture. It is almost an exact replica of the GX-99.

Nations, Factions, and Organizations
There is a lot more going on than just a simple war in the Renar System, but who's behind it? I'm afraid I can't tell you that here, but I CAN tell you the major players involved. Here's a rundown on every single group within the first volume of Shattered Gear: Volume I - Revenant;
~THE FREELANCE ALLIANCE~
The FLA is an assembly of several mercenary and vigilante groups, as well as one or two political groups. The founding organization, ARRM (Anti-Royalist Resistance Movement, a.k.a., The Vanguard) and its allies, the Empire of Zevan, the Gundarian Federation, MetaCorp., and secretly, the Renarian Council.
~THE RADICAL ROYALIST UNION~
The RRU only consists of three entities; The Lancastrian Monarchy, the Atlinian Republic, and the mercenary group, the Blackwater Corporation. Lancaster and Atlin handle political affairs, and most of the time BC handles the dirty stuff. Slade-Tech Industries, however, is a branch of BCorp. that produces weapons for humans as well as AGs.
Weapons
What good is a space pirate (or a rebel) if they don't have reliable resources? And by resources I mean weapons of massive destruction. Skyler has always been iffy about using guns, even before he became a space pirate. His motto is "if you're too scared to get your hands dirty, you don't belong in a war", and so he does just that... in style. His Lightsword, which he himself named "Shallow Vengeance", a symbol of his father's passing. However, this isn't the only weapon Skyler can use in the game. Below is an in-depth list of weapons and some of the things that make them different from the rest.
Shallow Vengeance
A one-handed lightsword that harnesses pure human energy. There is no ignition button or secret password to use it; it's only ignited when the user's body's conditions meet the requirements to do so. How does this work, you ask? All Skyler needs to do to turn this weapon on is simply focus. It responds to a certain energy released from humans through emotion. Because of the unpredictability of this weapon, it has been banned throughout the entire galaxy, as it was mass-produced for use by every major nation. Skyler's father gave him one before he was killed by a rival space pirate, known as Sarmuc Therin. This weapon is Skyler's favorite, and therefore has the most available skills that he can learn. However, to balance the weapons out evenly, even at its highest level of possible upgradability, it's still considerably weak. A "Jack of all trades, master of none," just like Skyler himself. At its maximum level, the Shallow Vengeance becomes the Savior's Oath. This weapon has no other special abilities
Reaper's Heir
A scythe with a chain attached to the energy blade, which is then attached to a metallic handle. It wouldn't seem like the ideal weapon for dispatching enemies, but is the fastest weapon you can attack with, which makes this weapon necessary in emergency situations. The Reaper's Heir can attach to several objects within the game, including the tops of buildings, walls, sticks coming out of walls, and several other ones. At its maximum level, the Reaper's Heir becomes the Devil's Apprentice, which is actually a complete scythe, but the blade can separate with its signature chain, which has greater reach than its predecessors, making combat more satisfying, as well as platforming.
Rogue's Edge
A dual-edged lightsword. Considerably more useful when faced against seemingly impossible odds, this weapon also makes it possible for Skyler to glide short distances, allowing for more platforming possibilities for exploration and discovery. When at its maximum level, the Rogue's Edge becomes the Assassin's Crescendo, and actually becomes two weapons, allowing Skyler to glide further and even rise in mid-air before gliding.
Philosopher's Dagger
A small-ish dagger that is rumored to give the user a wealth of wisdom and knowledge. This weapon can pick electronic locks that would normally be inaccessible to Skyler. Recommended for use during stealthy infiltration missions to silence would-be enemies. At it's highest level, the Philosopher's Dagger becomes the Wiseman's Knife, and can pick any lock it comes across, also gaining an inch or two in length.
Hero's Archblade
The broadsword of the SG universe. Two handed and heavier than any weapon in the game, the Hero's Archblade slows Skyler down considerably. However, this weapon is favored when facing AGs head on without on of your own around. This weapon can also break cracked walls, allowing for, yes, even more exploration. At its maximum level, the Hero's Archblade becomes the Paladin's Oath, and can break down walls faster, as well as take down AGs and other vehicles with its large reach much easier.
Shooting Star
The one and only long-range weapon in Shattered Gear. Essentially, this is just a bow that fires off energy-based projectiles, which are limited. Skyler can use the Teleporter Arrow to reach greater heights he wouldn't be able to with any other weapon, but while there is a portal opened resulting from the use of the Teleporter Arrow, Skyler must leave the Cloud Splitter behind. Not recommended for close quarters combat, there is a large variety of Arrows Skyler can acquire to use in battle, as well as travel and exploration. At its highest level, the Shooting Star becomes the Supernova, which will have unlimited arrows of whatever type is equipped, and can shoot the farthest distances.
Wyvern's Tail
A long whip made entirely out of energy. The overflow of energy in this weapon can open locked doors that would otherwise prove to be an obstacle to Skyler. Ideal for stealthy missions, this weapon can wrap itself around enemies silently and stun them, rendering them ineffective. At its highest level, te Wyvern's Tail becomes the Dragon's Crest, and its range is greater, and it can unlock doors faster and with more precision without triggering any alarms.
Warrior's Spirit
The only material-based weapon in the game. Nothing more than a primitive greataxe. Made of a type of broken down Oron metal, the Warrior's Spirit is obtained by Naoshi, who claims that an ancient and powerful warrior used it to slay over ten thousand men who intended to overthrow the warrior's kingdom. It has no other potential use other than killing enemies and destroying AGs more effectively than the weapons you will have at the time you obtain it [depending on how much time you take to upgrade your weapons]. It becomes the only weapon you can use throughout the Trial of Destiny, in which Skyler seeks redemption for his sins from the gods on Giza.
Risen Demon
The Risen Demon is the secret weapon you get within Shattered Gear. A two handed sword, it allows Skyler to teleport anywhere on the planet he's currently in with ease, at a cost of his health. At its maximum level, the Risen Demon becomes the Fallen Angel, and requires even less health to teleport. Fairly reliable in combat.
