Shangri La (RMXP)

Hi, are the battle sprites original? If so, good work! :thumb:
Don't get frustrated by the critism people give in this forums.

From the story that I just read it really reminded me of my own projects (that I drop) Planet Protectors and Steel Angel. The whole human and demon's co-existing and eventually refuse to live together is very similar to what I had for Planet Protectors. And then the Omnibots to go take out the demons reminds me of Steel Angel.

I like these ideas (which is why I used them) but I'm glad someone is making better use of those ideas. Good job.

Looks good, nice graphics and story.
Some ways to improve it:

- on the third screenshot, the mapping is far from bad. However, making the "wall" of stone behind the people less linear will make it look better.
- in the first screenshot in spoiler 2. The patients are nice, but the rmxp template afro hair looks a bit funny.
try frankensteining some other hair onto them.
- You are using medieval guards in a modern lab. You should find something more modern

that's all

My first thought was I want to see more videos! :D
And that is because some of us (paranoid conspiracy theorists) don't like executing .exe files right away.
So it'd be lovely with lots of videos (of cutscenes, battles, bosses, everything worthwhile) and with a high framerate :D

Also I can't see your images, i think something is wrong with the formating.

Also also I saw the terms "Life Energy", "Chi", "Spirit Energy" and "souls". These are seperate entities or different words with the same meaning?
If indeed they are different things, I think you should explain it better. If they are not, maybe you should pick a term and use that particular one exclusively.

OK I've added my screenshots as well has dropped the size of the file to 78MB instead of 126MB.
Would love to hear thoughts on the game play since it was difficult trying to balance out the battle system since SP is not used.

the clipped arrow on text box bugs me.

World events could be woven into the story insead of wall of text at the beginning. The history of the war and truce seems meaningless. It's clear enough that humans and demons don't get along and have been fighting. But we don't know anything about the terms of the truce.

Might be better to move Agares to the left in the beginning scene so they don't magically switch sides during the first battle.

The arrangment of characters needs fixed so the names match their possition on screen.

Lots of movement issues, can walk around at points during dialog which can potentualy lead to lock up.

First room in Underground base- tried exiting down, Guy said "wait" then game froze. Another move event issue. It's also good practice to factor in the Player's direction with warping tiles.

left guard in the prison is set to stopped animation and cycles though the other character down poses when he gets knocked out.

Plenty of spelling and gammer errors.

Some stray pixels on the edge of white-Relick's walking UP sprite.

The sorceress and curse, the limits of the brothers powers arn't mentioned in the game. I didn't read the backstory in your post until after I played the demo. Since it's just a demo I'd assume the information comes up later. But it's important to have all the fantasy world mechanics explained in the game. It is very confusing not knowing from start that the brothers are demons, and trackers are demon hunters and not ninjas.

I get what your trying to say but that text in the beginning is from the anime. It's how every episode begins, I just twisted the words a bit.

yea I know that also confuses me. I just became lazy since it would have been extra work to flip the scene. Will fix.

Will fix. Thought it would be cool/different to have them positioned that way. I guess it's just annoyingly confusing..

Yea I didnt test for that stuff since i knew when the cut scenes were. I'll stop player movement.

I know what happened, you likely moved while the event started. i'll have to fix this silly stuff.

happened to me as well. thought i fixed it. but i guess not.

happens, though the grammar errors might have been on purpose. though I wouldn't say plenty. I did the best i could.

gotta make his sprite larger. but these character's are supposed to be place holders so i didn't feel like it.

During the demo I have the characters explain all that. in the cave/camp scene Rubeus points out (in a sort of roundabout way) that they are half-demons and that they were in human territory. The sorceress bit is mentioned at the demo's end but it doesn't really come into play until later in the game.

I didn't see anything in your notes about the battles. I just wanted to know if you had any trouble with it, since a lot of people felt it was too hard the first time I posted a demo.

also did you make it to the end? or did the multitude of bugs prevent you from finishing?

again thanks bro.

I made it to the end of the demo.

It took a while to get the hang of at first. The beginning is a lot more difficult then the end. You can walk to the first omnibot fight or that booby trap and only fight 1 or 2 battles. Without healing items and little chance to experiment those battles are pretty hard. Those were the only times I got gameovers. I'm not sure if it's possible to win at level 1. If it is, you really have to know what you are doing and be fast. The way the forest is designed, I basically walked straight to those areas.
The battles got repetitive fast once you figure them out, just bum-rush attack if your near a save point since you can heal easily. The battles are fast enough I didn't worry if a spirit attack was more effective during random encounters. The battles lack variety. The enemies varied, but attacking, spirit element, and shield was all the playable characters could do. Nothing changed from the beginning to end. No stats, skills, or equipment to manage. They could level up but that was it.

I didn't like the boost system. The SP for Physical boost that only lasts 2 turns didn't seem cost effective. There is a limited number of recovery items in the game. The first time playing I didn't know when I'll get to recover at a save point, so I just hoard items. The other boost skill is kinda lame; it's just your regular element X2.

Your game won't allow me to play it.
Complained about an RGSS104E.dll. Didn't work; now complains about some RGS RTP Standard. Was getting a bunch of closed down links (due to terms of service, etc) just like the .dll when I was trying to find it on Google. I give up xD
