Erk, I know you probably thought/think about it, but why not changing the hosting service?
I don't know if you tried yet, but I use 1and1.com services and they're pretty reliable and (the best of) cheap. Don't know how much monthly transfer you guys need, but they have more than 1TB/month plans starting out US$5.00 / month.
And thanks for worring about this forum, I really appreciate it's back, even if we lost some data, it's the only one I can feel safe on.

I'm very proud on you (the ones that contributed to the return of rmxp.org, they know who they are). These days have been very boring, without a scroll on the latest news of rmxp.org.

Honestly, the dilemma is that hostgator's servage is very good. We have never had server downtime, or slow loads; they don't oversell, so while their prices are not as low they are still affordable and you are guaranteed what you pay for; they have room for us to expand without busting the budget; they allow all of our rather diverse needs; and aside from this time, I have never had a problem with their support. So far they are batting 6 for 7, so I figure even though the 7th is a pretty pathetic failure, they deserve more chances. I will just never rely on their restores department, ever.

I'm not sure what was used to backup the site / forums, but the built-in "backup" features on software such as IPB, PHPBB, SMF, and vBulletin, are not completely reliable, I've found.
Typically I back up entire databases from the back-backend. That might help in the future so you can restore everything or just certain things based on those backups, leaving out the middleman.

Honestly folks, to be fair, it is not really the hacker's fault the forum was down for so long. It only took 2 hours to solve the hack, it was just a bit of mischief. The blame lies collectively on me for not double-checking our backups recently, hostgator for having pathetic support, and vbdrupal for having a glitch that screwed up the way our backup was saving.

If I knew the identity of this hacker he would already be somewhere underneath epping forest breathing his last moments but life isn't that nice ah well... forum hackings becoming a big problem I know two other forums that have suffered from this... *sigh* life really sux right now... and Hisuwashi isn't on msn to pull me out of this pit of darkness...

Luckily you fixed it somewhat. Everyone with Admin status....0_0, imagine what some of you crazy's out there would do with...Admin status.
