Recommend me some good Anime?

First of all, dubbed or subbed? Also, if you like Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist, you'll fall in love with Bleach. It's done by artist Tite Kubo, and they're on Season 4. If it's dubbed...then I dunno, haven't watched much dubbed anime.
I agree with Dopples, Bleach is a good anime... I also like Rurouni Kenshin, but that is less known than Bleach.

Big O is a really good choice. It gets really in depth, has great dubbing, and has an original story. You have to watch it from the begining though, or you will become really confused.

Big O is set in Paradigm City, a domed metropolis with a mixture of futuristic and contemporary features. It is widely believed that no human civilization exists outside the city (though, this has never been confirmed nor denied, given the fact that all or most of the residents of Paradigm City choose to stay inside the dome than to venture out). Forty years before the show first takes place, a mysterious occurrence known only as "The Event" completely wiped out the memories of the isolated city's inhabitants. There are few clues as to what exactly took place during that fateful moment, but it forced the people of Paradigm to start anew, severed ties and all; this mystery is a central feature of the show. The principal character of Big O is Roger Smith, a professional freelance "negotiator" who conducts negotiations between parties within Paradigm City and occasionally with criminal elements. Secretly, he is also the pilot of the Big O, a giant robot called a Megadeus, which is an artifact of the world before "The Event." Supported by his android housemate R. Dorothy Wayneright and his faithful butler Norman Burg, Roger tries to perform his role as Negotiator while at the same time using the Big O to protect the city from attacks by threats internal and external and trying to discover the truth about The Event, Paradigm City, and the world he is confronted with as a whole.

You know what? Now that I think about it, I remember enjoying Yu Yu Hakusho. It's a story about a 14 year old kid who sacrifices his own life trying to save a 3 year olds from an oncoming car. He in turn becomes a spirit detective in the spirit world and stuff. All sorts of fighting fun. Also I recommend both Samurai X and Rorouni Kenshin.... if you're looking' for an anime that'll make your jaw drop in awe, go with Samurai X (Very gore tho just to warn you) If you feel like watching a more light hearted version, Rorouni Kenshin is the way to go.

:P theres a way that free AND legal to view some of these so you can get an idea of what you do/don't want to buy.

Try headin' over to a site like....http://www.youtube.com and then typing the series+a number/episode+# (ie: Bleach 12 or Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 13). Usually people upload episodes/clips from dvds or such onto sites like those for other people to see.

Downloading em onto your computer for free tho? I'm 100% sure thats NOT legal.

From what I heard, the anime isn't on fillers, it's showing a future arc in the manga, while the anime goes into where the manga currently is. Though I dunno.

I have a feeling thats illegal. Nothing is free in this world son.

You can download unliscensed stuff without guilt. Nobody really cares, because you're not taking any profits. Also, most anime is killed upon translation, so you should watch the subbed versions.

Anyway:
Noein(24 episodes)(you'll have to download this)-Great stuff(thank you cry!). Great action scenes and incredible story, has alot to do with quantum physics(although you shouldn't get too confused). It's a little slow at points(like that episode where Haruka and Ai were fighting), but it is incredibly heartwarming, satisfying, and the action scenes are incredible. I just need to see episode 24....

Visions of Escaflowne(26 episodes)-Another great one. Beautiful. It has an incredible story, and merges fantasy and mecha brilliantly and beautifully. It has a decent dub, but they cut out ALOT(blood, a lesbo/incest scene between the two catgirls, although it wasn't that bad, you'd have to see it to understand, and THE WHOLE FIRST EPISODE) And yes cry, I got a little bit of inspiration from this, but not too much.

Witch Hunter Robin(26 episodes)-Okay, this anime is absolutely incredible, but it is not for people who like action every minute. This anime has a deep story, and is overall incredible. It is one of my favorites, and is just incredible. It also has a really, really good english dub.

Turn A Gundam(50 episodes)(you'll have to download this)-easily the best mecha series ever made. Even if you aren't a fan of gundam, or even mecha, this series is incredible. Made by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the origional creator of Gundam, this series is the be-all end-all of Gundam. Linking all of them together. This is just an incredible series, no buts.

Gundam X(39 episodes)(you'll have to download this)-A great gundam series, with good characters(no pretty boys! FUCK YES!), and great mechanical design. However, the end isn't as good as it could have been, mainly because it was cut short 10 episodes(which sucks, considering it could have been one of the best Gundam series ever).

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo(26 episodes)-Based off the book by Alexandre Dumas. This series has a deep story, with good characters, and I just absolutely love this. If anything, you owe yourself to watch this, simply for the incredible animation. It is easily the most visually beautiful anime I have ever seen, and is great if you're looking for a deep story. The music is also great, composed by Jean Jacques Brunel, from the stranglers. Also has a great english dub(I perfer it over the Japanese voices0_0) You won't see it comin'

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni(not sure how many episodes)(you'll have to download this)-HOLY SHIT. This is scary stuff. In two words: Mind Fuck. This series is bloody, and scary. Which is very unique, considering it is based off an ero game. I've only seen episodes 1-10. Each 4 episodes is like a different storyline, involving different situations, but the same characters. However, if you're not going to watch the entire series, you must watch atleast the first 4 episodes. They are incredible. And they also gave me a fear of girls wearing white hats....

Gundam: 8th MS team(12 episodes)- This is no superhuman pilot, no ultra powerful gundams. This is grunts surviving day by day. One of the best gundam series ever released in America. Definetly one to check out.

Gundam: Stardust Memory(13 episodes)- Although not as good as the series listed above, it is still very good, and worth a watch. However, it doesn't fit in to well with the UC timeline, it's still a fun watch. So long as you can get over that bitch Nina(really, she's probably the worst female lead to ever appear in a Gundam series next to Lacus Clyne)
Those are some of my favorites, check them out.

Just remember. There's always Cowboy Bebop.
Two bounty hunters, named Jett and Spike, with very diverse histories. One an ex-cop, and the other an ex-'syndicate' man. As the series progresses, and as they add 'Ed' and 'Faye' to their crew, bits and pieces of their long-forgotten pasts get dredged up and... I don't wanna ruin it. Chicago beats and Missisippi Blues add to the ambiance, and of course there's always the action and humor in this 26 episode saga. And don't forget to check out Cowboy Bebop: The Movie which takes place a few eps before the end of the series.

FLCL or Fooly Cooly is definitely a pick-me-up if you had a bad day at work (and I mean reeeeeaaaally bad). It's so goofy, that the director claimed he didn't know what Fooly Cooly even meant. You know you got something special when the main character, a 12-13 year old boy ends up having a vespa-riding (a vespa is an italian scooter) 20-something year old crazy alien who swings a guitar like a baseball bat... and a robot that LITERALLY popped out of the kid's head (painfully)... what more need you ask? Six episodes... cause the world couldn't take seven.

Ghost in the Shell rules. Granted that they can go into more detail on the tv episodes than in the movie. But the movie was INTENSE! And very graphic. The movie was based on the manga of the same name, and unfortunately due to the time contstraints of a feature film, it couldn't give you the COMPLETE storyline... But it did well enough. Major Kusanagi, a cyborg member of 'Section Nine' works to uncover the plot behind a mastermind known only as the 'puppetmaster'... a criminal who 'programs' people to perform thefts and hacks FOR him, while they have no recollection of what they themselves are doing.

InuYasha is fine... if you wanna go through all 150+ episodes. It was written to appeal to both guys and girls. It contains violence as the title character must defend himself (and others... sometimes reluctantly) against various demons. On the flip side, it also has a tongue-in-cheek love-hate relationship between the characters that grows (and becomes twisted as certain things occur). Plenty of humor in this one as the heroes must recover all the shards of a sacred jewel (that the lead 15-year-old girl shattered) before a powerful demonic threat uses it for his own ends. The series lasted 7 years in Japan and had at least 4 movies.

Last Exile is a... different... series. Taking place on another world where fleets of battleships roam the 'skies' of their world doing battle, two young pilots become entangled with the destiny of one infamous cruiser as they deliver their 'cargo'... a young 7-year-old girl who unknowingly holds a secret. And while nations on this barren planet fight for land and water, the 'Guild' who controls MOST of the water and resources hunt for the child who threatens their control. Aeronautics (a girl with a teddy bear), nautical styled warfare (a nutcase 'guild' pilot) and politics showcase this series where two young pilots discover who they really are in this 26 episode drama (I mentioned the nutcase 'guild' pilot, right?).

NGE or Neon Genesis Evangelion is a strange one. Three teen Robot-Pilots must defend the Earth from prophesized 'Angels' who want to destroy humanity. Has a bit more personal drama than the others I've listed, even to the point that each character has some personal angst that drives him/her or drives 'em away. Religious overtones... or anti-religious perhaps... shape this 13 episode saga. And a penguin that lives in a custom fridge.

Ninja Scroll the movie was... DAMN!!! Um, you are 17 or 18, right? If rated, this one HAS to be a hard R due to violence, adult situations and nudity. Political intrigue and history drive this movie as the lead hero is poisoned by an agent for the Emperor. Coerced into the mission (for the antidote), he must uncover the plot behind how 'The Eight Devils of Kimon', a bunch of specialized brutal killers, are going to overthrow the government.

Dunno about the TV series and don't bother with Ninja Resurrection. It's NOT based on the same Jubei character from Ninja Scroll.

R.O.D. the series takes place roughly 5 years after R.O.D. the movie. So some characters in the series are already introduced. I'll just say that a novelist who is looking for an old teacher of hers (the hero from the movie), runs into 3 sisters who run a detective agency from Hong Kong. But, the kick is that these three share BOTH the teacher's affinity with paper (making weapons as hard as steel, paper airplanes you can ride... etc), and their insanely bibliophilic drive to own and read every book possible (except the youngest sister who hates books). Ever hear of a 'Bookslide'? Yup. Totally buried under books. Comedy, tragedy, action and ... paper... fill this 26 episode adventure with the 'Paper Sisters'.

Trigun is a comic sci-fi western about Vash the Stampede, a man who is known as the Human Typhoon. As two insurance agents search for this man (with 20-billion double dollars on his head), they find a donut-eating, spiky-blond-headed, pacifist nutjob who preaches love instead. THIS IS THE GUY? Unfortunately... yes. And, most of the havoc occurs when people find he's around... causing the problems themselves. However, while he's a pacifist at heart, he WILL draw his gun if the need arises and the need WILL arise as forces draw him into a deadly game. Slapstick comedy and some light drama unfold in this 26 episode series.

Witch Hunter Robin could be described as ... The X-Files in the cafe from 'Friends'. A little laid-back at times, the title character is a literal 'witch' who joins a team of Witch Hunters (kinda like a 15/16-year-old catholic school-girl version of 'Firestarter'). Classified top-secret by the government, the team solves cases deemed... 'special'... that the general public SHOULD not be made aware of. But, as they solve case-after-case, something festers within the organization itself. And just when you think you've gotten things figured out, BROTHER do they trick you in this 26 episode series.

Visions of Escaflowne is honestly the only anime I can honestly say I've enjoyed. I'm glad a few people have reccomended it so far. But if you're going to watch one of those, I'd reccomend that one. It's got some interesting themes in it.

not to sound nitpickey, but NGE was a 26 episode series as well as having two movies, End of Evangelion and Death and Rebirth.
Anyways...If you like Vampires and Demons a good anime in my opinion was Blood the Last Vampire... Awesome.
Also good is NightWalker, a 12 episode series that has, of course, a vampire as the main character. Night Walker is a cross between Angel, and a great fantasy anime, IMO. Great Series.
I've also heard that Saint Seiya is good, but i have yet to see it my self. what else...
of course there's Excel Saga... An Anime that parodies Anime... how great is that?
umm... I personally love Lupin the 3rd, but i dunno if that makes it good anime... probably just hilarious.
Saber Marionette is suppossed to be good as well.
I also enjoyed Flame of Recca, the few episodes i saw.

Looks like we're going OFF of his list. Yep, I recommend Lupin III too. Castle of Cagliostro was my first experience with the gentleman thief, followed up by Mystery of Mamo and the others...

Slapstick/Action Adventure-wise, I couldn't help but laugh at The Slayers, but then again, where do you think I got my avatar? :D :D. Based on 15 novels, it follows the exploits of a sorceress with the resounding title 'Bandit Killer"... beats the living %#@& from the bandits and keeps for loot for herself... and her partner, a swordsman as loyal as man's best friend (but not as bright). The first two seasons of the TV series were based on a number of the novels (not all of 'em), while the 3rd was... a play it by ear season. Serious at times and more detailed than you would have expected, not a bad little series. Little? Each season is 26 episodes!. The movies made after the TV series is a little... different. Not much thought. Definitely played for laughs.

More tuned for literary and artistic types, Record of Lodoss War[/b] seems to have been based on a... Dungeons and Dragons game PLAYED by Ryo Mizuno... and I think it was. Originally a 13 part MiniSeries OVA, it chronicled the adventure of the exiled son of a dishonored knight and a flighty elf princess as they become embroiled in the conflict between the nations of their homelands and the dark isle of Marmo. Unable to complete the whole story arc, they rushed the end (though not noticable to those unfamiliar with the story).

City Hunter is a interesting series of features about a Private Investigator with one thing on his mind... women. If it wasn't for the fact that his partner, Kaori, was his late partner's kid sister... he'd probably go for her too. But, don't let his womanizing fool you. City Hunter: The Movie has our hero going after a terrorist who plans on detonating a 'series' of explosions throughout the heart of Tokyo. .357Magnum has him dealing with foreign dignitaries being assassinated during a Piano concert. Bay City Nights has a terrorist takeover a supercomputer... controlling a nuclear payload they wish to aim at the U.S. And Million Dollar Conspiracy has our hero find a bounty put on his head...

Oh, and for even more ridiculous slapstick... you may wanna experience Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures. It's from the creator of Tenchi Muyo! and like Tenchi, our hero's got girl problems... yep, he can't choose between 'em. Starting off in our world, he has visions of giant robots fighting... but only HE can see them. Eventually, he and a fellow student find themselves in the parallel world that the robots really exist in, and find themselves as pilots in the war (since they can't get back until the war is over). NGE-styled robot fighting with the Tenchi Muyo-Styled situations and comedy, a friend of mine had described the 13 chapter series as... "Cracktastic!" Rumor has it that Katsuki is supposed to be related in some weird way to Aeka/Ayeka or Tenchi Masaki.

Let me be the first to recomend Elfen Lied. Very emotional, very disturbing. Perfect in every way.
I second the recommendation. However, I'd suggest at least 17+ to watch it due to excessive violence and nudity. The shock factor was what kept me going initially, but after it was just the story.

You can find all 13 episodes on Google video; search Elfen Lied episode #. Uploaded by Daniel ___.
