Quintessence: The Blighted Venom

Quintessence - The Blighted Venom

I have to say, this is the best one so far, however, at the point where

Reives uses the bow and arrow to open the secret door, right after the guard minigame, if you try to access the menu, you get a battler error.

I had that error too. It's no big deal. I guess Reives forgot to make a face for the Chrono Trigger CMS for Reives when hes in his bow & arrow sprite form. You can access the menu fine after that point.
Just go down into the prison place and Reivier won't be in his bow & arrow sprite form anymore and you'll be able to access the menu :)

Anyways. I have a question :eek:
Reives. If you do end up finishing this, (and I hope you do) How long..do you think it would take to finish? Just a wild guess? I'm just curious  :P

I just finished Chapter VI, and may I just say: Bravo, Reives! I'd say that this is my favorite chapter, next to Chapter I(I like collecting items. :3). Nice job.

I also have something else to say: Graagh!!

You sir, are evil! I was so looking forward to bringing back Serai. I mean, I wasn't expecting it to go off without a hitch, but... damn. When I saw Serai's cell... well... I haven't been this moved by an RMXP game, since the events at the end of Master of the Wind, arc III. Poor Reives.  :'(

Oh, and did Lunair put in Reives' drink, what I think she put in his drink? Holy sheep! *eyes rolling in back of head, mouth foaming, and gargling*

I need chapter VII! Need!

Reives, you truly have crafted a masterpiece story, Much kudos.

Onto the gameplay...
I can't say that the first minigame was my favorite, but it was well thought-out, and it wasn't frustrating. So it's all good in that department.

The first battles, in the dungeon, were pretty basic. I mean, all I had to do, was mash 'Q', and occaisionally 'W', or 'S'. I forgot to jump. O_O

The next couple of battles required a bit more strategy. The enemy's ranged attacks were a bit much, at first. I died. ;_; Then, I managed to beat the first batch of archers. The second group was easier, as they got stuck on some flowers. I used it to my advantage.

I didn't care much for the horse-riding mini-game. It wasn't the worst ever, but I felt that you probably could've done much better(see, it's a compliment, really.). I can't really comprehend why the horse would get stuck on flowers, but not rocks. O_O

I noticed a little something odd, though. I forgot to take screenshots, though. Sorry. Earlier in the chapter, heath's surname was "Saen"(I think.), but during the wedding, it was "Saldian"(Or something to that affair.). I though that this was a strange inconsistency. Maybe i just imagined it?

This chapter was great. A terrific addition to the game. If only it had been longer. ;_; Can't wait 'til chapter VII.

@_@@_@@_@

Lunair did NOT just put that drug in his drink, did she?  Reives + Lunair = @_@

You see what you can do to us with one simple cutscene?

That's easily the best chapter yet.  The battles were actually pretty fun, with the new jump (which added new strategies), and the battle in the courtyard was damn tough.

Fantastic work Reives.  I have a feeling chapter 7 is gonna be.....just whoa.  That is all.

I know! I was like "What the hell?!" I guess she just wanted him to not be sad about Serai, but still! Oh, I bet Serai's still alive. Will there be a cat-fight in the future of Quintessence? Let's hope so!  :P

Nice job, Reives, it seems you've got something going on, that's roughly analogous to "Who's the Sparrow?!". Congrats.

Did anyone else notice what I noticed though about...

That the guards actually said there was an escaped wolf to look out for? I doubt it would be Huey, all things considered, could it possibly be Serai? After all, I doubt they killed her, they did talk about using her for a test subject, at least I thought they did.

Dun dun dun!! The plot thickens, like a middle-aged housewife.

It's probably either Serai, or someone else entirely. Remember how they said that they had thought that Huey had been executed, but he kight've escaped? That implies that he had been gone for quite some time. I'm leaning toward the possibility of it being someone whom we haven't met, yet. As much as I'd like it to be Serai, it seems implausible, as she would have just taken the Quintessence, and therefore(most likely.) not very well acquainted with her new powers.

Squeeee! Sepculation is fun!

@Xephyr:
I will upload some files in mp3 format in the future, most likely. Freeware programs such as Audacity can easily convert them, though. :)

@Speedpaws:
Ahh yes, I had some other reports on that glitch as well - my bad, I totally missed it. D: Luckily it forces you to save before that, so it won't be too much harm if it goes off. Already fixed in the non-uploaded version. :>

@Zammy:
It's already been about a year and a half now I guess, although I restarted from scratch after about 3-4 hours of playtime at one point (after playing Memento Vivere, mind ya. :p So you have Rye to thank for for part of the success), as well as took major breaks that spanned months. I can't say for certain, but I'd imagine a year or so? Maybe shorter, maybe longer. But don't worry, this will not be left unfinished, for personal reasons.

@Lumin:
(I'll leave the Serai/Lunair thing to the end. :p )
As for the battles; the first couple of soldiers down in the prison are indeed one/two shot deals, as I figured that it would be weird to have to shoot them for a long time after you just saw Reiv one shots them, heheh. The jump function didn't have too much of an effect to be honest, although back when it was still automatic in beta stage, it felt a lot more useful than the current manual form - but it sometimes oversteps the player's movement, so I figured it's better for control as manual.

I was going to guide the second wave of soldiers away from the flower patches so they don't get stuck at first. But then I figured by then, the player might be struggling a bit, and sitting behind the flower patches as archers looked a little like a "shoot out", hahah - so I left it like that.

I know what ya mean with the horse mini-game; the game itself isn't anything spectacular, and rather simplistic in its core. It was originally going to be just a cut-scene, but then I figured "why annoy myself with coding billions of movements when I can just make it interactive?" My main goal for it was to have a pseudo-cinematic escape scene, along with that song by James (he wanted to see it in action for a loonnng time now, heheh; it existed even before Quintessence received the total restart). I hope it had an effect in terms of that. :>

And ooh, thanks for the heads up on the name thing! It is indeed a mistake, I forgot about it. Mainly because in the written story, it was Saldaen, but now it feels a bit weird to me so I changed it to Saen, but forgot to change the part that was already there. Good catch, heheh.

Mm'kay, that's a lot of words for this message for this technical response - I will leave the rest of the things I wanted to say, regarding those speculations and as such, to next post. :p

Dammit, when i try downloading this, i get it corrup... i think it's just me but oh god dammit I really wanna play! Can you re-upload it or add a minor coz i can't download it. Grr....

Have ya tried redownloading it? A lot of the times, I found corruption errors to be caused by the .rar not finished download completely before being opened. If it still doesn't work, I'll upload another one; there are some glitches I need to fix anyhow. :>
~~~~~~~
Ooh, someone at the quintessence home forums just brought up a good point, and I thought I'd just quote it here:
at first I thought she did for sure seeing the prison scene, but then I realised that it reminded me a LOT of the Huey's "death" scene flash back in chapter 4, which was a setup.
Just thought it was an interesting point, from a bystander's point of view - so don't take me quoting this to be an indication of anything. :>
Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn!!
The plot thickens even more! Thickens like so much mucus from a cold!... Ew.
I hadn't considered that. Hmm, I know the answer! The answer:
Make Reives work non-stop on chapter VII.  :D
Nope.. it just keeps corrupting... i think you should upload a minor coz i REALLY wanna play and i try not to spoil myself reading the post above...
As in the link itself doesn't load? That's rather strange. . . Mm'kay, I'll see what I can do, probably filefront.
Edit: So you'll need the save file hosted elsewhere as well, right?
dude, finally got to play it.
Awesome.
At first, I thought it was too story heavy and not enough action. Then i got to chapter three. Jeez dude. I love this game!!!
From now on, I'm your apprentice. I will take any suggestion you make game wise.
Hahah, glad ya enjoyed it. Are ya still on chapter 3, or have you gotten to VI? I think part of the reason why the latter chapters are better is that instead of black and white, they tend to integrate the story and the action relatively better.
And Danny, my upload's still going, currently at ~40% still. If anyone has a fast internet, it'd be extremely appreciated to upload a mirror of the Chapter VI package somewhere for Danny. :> If not, I'll just get keep this going.
