Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.
As for the event battles; I think there is a basic guide in the tutorials section somewhere. However, as it is advanced eventing, I suggest you try to figure it out yourself. Because often, if you can't understand how to utilize the events to create certain functions, you'll have a hard time following on someone else's tutorial for this kind of things anyhow. Basically, you have to event as if you are scripting with limited grammar.
By the way, I made the first scene of Chapter 4 just for you.
Edit:
P.S. Alexia, I took in your suggestion and made it so that after the first time, you can press 'Esc' during the long title screen to skip to the "real title screen"; only works for loading saved files though, heheh.
Ugh, actually I do apologize for not having many Vikon/Sal scenes in this chapter. So don't expect too much on that. But I hope the couple I made makes it pass for now.
This chapter does have a primary focus on Lunair, though; however that mainly comes into play near the end. And speaking of which, Lunair's scenes near the end of chapter 4 is probably my personal favorite mini-story in this game so far hands down. It also reveals the relevance of the main music theme ("To Realize") to the story itself.
And it's quite alright. I understand that Vikon and Sal aren't the most important characters. lol (Heck, my favourite character in Ethereal Dreams truly is only in two to three scenes. n.n')
Just reached the town....who's name I suddenly forget. The kitty is adorable!! XD
I gotta say...Lunair is a nice character. It seems she has a lot of depth.
And as for my own special scene dedicated to me...
I really can't decide who looks prettier in that lipstick lol those two are so cute. In their own special way.
While my internet crashed and prevented me from posting this, I played more. So have more to say. XD
I'm really enjoying this town. lol And still looking for that action figure. Even if it's not in the game, I would rather have clicked everything and found it out that way, rather than miss it and find out it was.
I'm looking for the thief out in the forest now and having a real hard time with it....<.< One thing I noticed while I was out there, if you try to go north on the one map, Lunair tells you that that isn't the right way. Even if Lunair is sitting in a jail cell. lol Just a small thing.
lol And then your skin turns green!! Vikon.......you silly thing...*amused*
Wow..........that Lunair flashback..........At one point I was going to come in here and type "Huey T.T" now I just wanna smack the kid upside the head with a baseball bat. No amount of money is worth pulling a dirty trick like that. I did have some questions about those scenes though. If you don't want to answer them, I'm ok with that too.
I just wondered, was Huey always her friend for that purpose? Or on the first few days was he sincerely Lunair's friend?
And I also wondered if Lunair has ever learned the truth to that night?
Anyway, chapter 4 was awesome. The second boss battle I found to be a nice balance of challenge and fun. It was hard, but I still have a great time doing it. (there were no real good spots to abuse the stand behind something and shoot arrows. lol)
And, Vikon's description of the illness, more than made up for his general absence in this chapter. n.n Keep it up!
ps. A surprise of sorts. n.n

I just really wanted to draw Vikon.....well doodle in Paint. lol I hope you like it, even if it's not the best 2AM doodle ever. lol
@Ratty:
I included a detailed battle tutorial now, with the save3 file I provided in first post. It should give some major help to those that had trouble with it. If you still have troubles with it, let me know here. I'm interested to see how helpful it is.
@Makio
Wewt, glad you liked it! And oops, I'll be sure to fix that message glitch up. Was it frustrating to walk around in the mountains and then finding out that it wasn't necesary by the way? If so I think I might add some hint to get out of there.
As for the questions to Lunair's flashback:
Whether Huey had been sincere at first or not is really up to interpretation. However, the fact that Rayne said he had the situation under full control before the raining scene somewhat implies that it was like that from the start. But I guess he could've just been confident that he could turn the event later too.
And nope, Lunair never had a way of finding out the truth.
(But if she does in the future, I foresee some cool slaughtering scenes. :p )
And wow, that's a really awesome sketch for Paint! I seriously have no idea how line sketching in paint was actually possible, but that's just amazing. It's the first fanart for Quintessence ever too! :D Such thanks!! I'll include it in the first post, heheh.
lol yeah it was a little frustrating. Maybe some kind of message after you talk to Doug so many times? (Since I must have made him run back and forth at least 7 times) Like after he runs away have Reivier say something along the lines of 'this is impossible...maybe I should just head back.' *shruggs*
Ah I see. Up to my interpretation.
Yeah, she'd be right vexed if she found out the truth about the event. Poor thing, can't blame her.
I'm glad you like the image! I've wanted to draw a picture of Vikon for a while. lol *happy that she's number one in the fan art department*
I've always found Lunair to be an interesting character. Simply for her depth. How she's almost always seems like she's trying to act tough but deep down I don't think she's as strong as she thinks she is.
I almost think that the flashback helped strengthen this view on her. (actually the entire chapter is) I can easily picture her trying to hid her devastation of her lost friend under that tough visage.
That's why I like this game. I'm a character orientated person. if I can't find the characters interesting, it doesn't matter what gimmicks you have, I can't find it enjoyable (cough ff12). But this game has Rievier - the honest to a tee, so bent on his views that he comes off a little naive. Lunair, the tough on the outside, weak on the inside character. ---*rambles on and on* Haha I could go on. But yes, chapter 4 really helped strengthen my views on both Rievier and Lunair.
Oh my god, this game is amazing. Seriously. The storyline is full on wow, totally original and the characters kick ass. Im up to where
Lunair meets Huey in the flashback
, and im finally getting what makes her all resentful and mad. I love this game, god i wish i had a time machine so i could go and get the complete game or something. Keep up the good work. =]
Thanks very much! Glad you like it. The Huey flash back is my personal favorite mini story in-game, probably because watching it pissed me off even though I made it, heheh.
I was going to make a motion picture oriented ending video, but I got lazy on writing the song for it. :/ Perhaps later though. I think I've some good ideas saved up for it.
By the way, are you guys able to recognize the main theme more now after that flash back? It's actually used a lot through several variations through out the game (music box, strings, piano, title page's piano part, etc.).
Big spoiler! a suggestion i have for reives. if you havent finished demo, do not read cause itll really ruin it.
I think that in chap 5 or 6 or whatever (while theyre still in Aeria) Lunair should meet Huey!!! And be like
Lunair: "...Huey?"
*Huey jumps and looks nervous*
Lunair: "Huey! i thought you died!" (looks very shocked)
Huey: "Um..."
Lunair: "Huey? whats wrong?"
Lunair: "And why didn't you ever tell me you died?" (angry face)
Huey: "Look, your father made me do it. Blame him."
Lunair: "What?"
Huey: "Gods, your father said you were stupid. I never really liked you. I was doing it for money" (edging away, looking nervous)
Lunair: (VERy angry face) "WHAT?!?!"
Huey: "Just leave me alone." (turns to leave)
*Lunair attacks him*
And then... I dunno, she gets thrown in jail, her dad comes to get her out, she flips out at him and tries to attack him, then she does a runner, getting reivier and serai who were at a camp out of town or something, and they all run away quickfast =]
@Red Dawn: Err..I'd put that in spoiler tags if I were you.
I don't know about you but part of the whole thing in hat flashback for me was feeling bad for Huey and then BAM realizing that he was a snake. If I were to stumble upon your post before playing, I'd be rather sad.
I'm also going to stand by my impression that he started out truly her friend. I mean, her father had no way of knowing she was sneaking out that day. So how could he have already set the deal with Huey? I think...it really speaks to how corrupt money can be.
But that's me. n.n' And, I kind of like that aspect of it being left up to the player. *shruggs* It's all up to Reives in the end. XD
@Red
Heheh, thanks for the suggestion. But let's just say the things I have planned out are somewhat of a twist rather than a front encounter like that. I'd say more, but that'd spoil things.
P.S. Yep, if you can put that in the spoiler tag, it would be appreciated.
@Makio
Well said, I have to say that personally that is my view on what happened as well. But none the less, the counter to that would be Rayne already had the kid waiting on the block, and intentionally kick the ball to her due to that.
And to answer your question about To Realize. It's now my favourite song in the game. I sought out every version after playing chapter four and listened to each on their own. I love the piano version. But my most favourite of all is the one just titled 'to realize' that can be found in the ME folder. It just sounds so powerful. And I've always loved the snowflakes song from the 1-2-3 chapter release.
I think it would be pretty if there was a 4 minute long version with words. lol But that's just me.
